P.A Slams Subaru Ad, Subaru-Israel Denies Relation To The Commercial
The Palestinian Authority in the occupied West Bank expressed on Thursday its anger over an advertisement showing the Subaru car hitting two Palestinian children in Jerusalem with We will see who will stand in front of you written in Hebrew on the ad.
Dr. Ghassan Al Khateeb Media, Spokesperson of the Palestinian Authority, told China's Xinhua agency that that the PA had filed a complaint to the Israeli branch of Subaru over the ad that mocks the severe injuries of two children from Jerusalem, who were rammed, in October 2010, by a Subaru vehicle driven by David Be'eri, Director-General of the Elad settlement organization.
The settler was briefly detained by the Israeli police, and was released after he claimed that he had no other choice but to ram them with his car as he had to defend himself after the two children hurled stones at him while driving it, the Arabs48 news website reported.
Al Khateeb described the commercial as immoral and as an act that disregards the life of the Palestinian people.
He added that such ads encourage settler violence against the Palestinians, including running over Palestinian children, Xinhua said.
The Israeli Radio reported Thursday that spokesperson of Subaru in Israel denied any relation to the ad, and stated that the company did not publish this ad and protested against attempts to harm its reputation.
The Gulf News reported on its website on Friday that the advertisement had resurfaced a few days ago on a Facebook page for the Subaru car company in Israel, with some words in Hebrew. (We will see who will stand in front of you).
The Gulf News added sources told it that once the company noticed the picture on its Facebook page, it immediately removed it.
The sources added that Subaru-Israel also asked Palestinian media agencies to remove the picture from their websites, but they refused, Gulf News said.
The ad also led Peace Now Movement in Israel to protest against it. Peace Now spokesperson, Hagit Ghufran, stated that this ad is a clear evidence of the existence of fanaticism in Israel's Subaru branch, especially in areas where there is conflict with the Palestinians.
Ghufran added that such act will lead to more violence, especially against children.
Khalid Quzmar of the International Movement to Defend Children, called for taking the people behind the ad to court, adding that, unfortunately going to the law through Israeli courts is useless because Israeli courts are serving the occupation which gave a cover to such behaviors." Xinhua said.
Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, also denounced the advertisement describing it as propaganda that reached to the leveled of encouraging the killing of Palestinian children.

Alleged Subaru Car Ad In Israel Shows Power By Running Over Palestinian Children
Saed Bannoura, IMEMC & Agencies, Fri, 22 Apr 2011 03:38:45
A new advertisement in Israel, reportedly published by Subaru-Israel facebook page, meant to show the power and durability of the Japanese Subaru car, caused outrage after showing a Subaru driven by a Jewish settler striking two Palestinian children in occupied East Jerusalem, Press TV reported. The advertisement was allegedly published by the Subaru dealership in Israel, featuring an incident that took place last year when the settler struck two Palestinian children with his Subaru car.
The settler, known to the Israeli police, fled the scene after injuring the two children. The attack was capture on video.
We Will See Who Can Stand Against You, was written in the right corner of the horrific picture of a Palestinian child flying into the air after being rammed by the settlers Subaru.
The victims were two Palestinian children aged 10 and 12. The 10-year-old child suffered a broken leg. The settler is at large, and is not even wanted for his crime.
The Fateh movement of President Mahmoud Abbas slammed the Subaru ad and described it as an act of aggression, promoting the harm and murder of Palestinian children.
The settler who rammed the children with his car was identified as David Be'eri, Director-General of the Elad settlement organization, an extremist settler real estate corporation that heavily promotes removing the Palestinians from Palestine, especially from Jerusalem, and replacing them with Jewish settlers.
The Elad movement heavily encourages Jewish settlers to move into Palestinian neighborhoods in occupied East Jerusalem, and provides them with financial support. Most of its financial comes from Zionist groups in the United States.

More 150 residents of Silwan arrested in 4 month period
Throughout this year the city of Jerusalem has witnessed an ongoing campaign of arbitrary arrests of Palestinian residents on security charges. Arrest numbers have soared in particularly volatile areas, such as Silwan, Al-Thouri, Shuafat, Anata and Issawiya, all of which have been subject to sustained clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces. The largest number of detentions and arrests have been in the village of Silwan.
Israeli forces executed over 150 detentions and arrests of Palestinians in Silwan between the months of December 2010 and March 2011. Included in this staggering number were 65 children detained by either Israeli police, military or undercover forces. Some were taken on the streets; others from their homes. This figure does not include the number of youth detained by Israeli forces stationed throughout the village for on-the-spot investigation.

Violence and mayhem ravages another Friday in Silwan
Violent clashes swept through Silwan yesterday following the midday prayer. Confrontations erupted after Israeli forces sealed off the main entrances to the village. An increased military presence was noted throughout the region, with several checkpoints established. Particularly militarised were the areas close to settlements, such as in Wadi Hilweh, Ein Silwan, Baten al-Hawa and Wadi Rababa districts.
The public prayer in Silwan yesterday, lead by Imam Mousa Aoudeh, featured a sermon that championed the steadfastness of the public against the colonisation and physical demolition of the village. Aoudeh also warned against the danger of collaborators. Clashes kicked off soon after the prayer's conclusion.
Use of force was particularly heavy on the Israeli side, who employed heavy amounts of tear gas, rubber bullets and sound bombs. Palestinian youth responded by throwing stones. Many residents in the area were also forcefully stopped and ID-checked by troops, who were said to conduct themselves in a rude and wholly unprofessional manner.
Dozens of Palestinian residents suffered the suffocating effects of tear gas inhalation, which was fired within high-density residential neighborhoods. At least 5 more were injured by rubber bullets, including the Wadi Hilweh Information Center photographer Ahmed Siyam. One Israeli settler was also reported to have opened fire with an M16 rifle. Israeli forces also raided the Al-Bustan protest tent during clashes. The roofs of several Palestinian homes were also occupied by the military, who used them as strategic points from which to fire tear gas on the streets below.

Brother of female detainee targeted, family home raided
Children lead the demonstration with signs of protest, as adults follow behind
A large force of Israeli troops raided the Shoyoukhi family's home yesterday in Silwan in search for 14-year old Mohammed Shoyoukhi. When troops failed to capture Mohammed (having spent the night at his sister's house), his elder brother was arrested instead as a means of blackmailing Mohammed to present himself at the police station. The contents of the family home were reported to be damaged or even destroyed by raiding forces.
Mohammed presented himself at the station later that day, accompanied by his mother. He was then subjected to a gruelling investigation alone after his mother was expelled from the room. Mohammed was sentenced to a 25-day house arrest by the Magistrates Court on charges of participation in clashes in Silwan, and to sign a guarantee of 500 NIS to be paid in cash should the conditions of his sentence be broken.
Mohammed's brother Su'ad Shoyoukhi, arrest several days previously, currently remains in Israeli detention. Accusations against Su'ad remain undisclosed by police, possibly to be revealed at a meeting regarding her charges tomorrow.

Clashes Reported In Silwan, Several Residents Wounded, One Kidnapped
Palestinian sources in Silwan, in occupied East Jerusalem, reported on Wednesday morning that several residents were injured, one seriously, while one resident was kidnapped by Israeli soldiers and policemen following clashes that took place in the town.
The sources added that soldiers fired dozens of gas bombs at the Al Bustan neighborhood causing several residents to require treatment for the effects of teargas inhalation.
Soldiers attacked with clubs and batons four women in Al Bustan without any provocation.
Also, one resident suffered serious wounds and was moved to a local Palestinian hospital in Jerusalem.
Another resident was violently beaten by the soldiers while standing in front of his store, and lost consciousness; despite being unconscious, soldiers kidnapped him and took him to an unknown destination.
Also on Wednesday, soldiers broke into a home that belongs to the Shiokhy family, in Silwan. The attack came just one day after the army kidnapped Muath Shiokhy from his home.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Silwan, reported that soldiers violently searched the home of Muath Shiokhy, 18, sabotaging its property and even confiscated clothes.
The army claims that Muath was wearing the clothes in question during Tuesday clashes with the police and the army.
Muath's mother stated that the soldiers failed to locate the clothes allegedly worn by Muath during the clashes, but took a yellow shirt that belongs to his sister.
Shiokhy was kidnapped by the army on Tuesday while washing a friend's car that was parked outside a café where he worked. The attack against the Al Shiokhy family home is not the first of its kind as it was repeatedly attacked and had its property sabotaged.

Israeli car ad boasts run over of kids
"We'll see who can stand against you," reads the Hebrew line to the right corner of the picture.
A new photo advertisement of a Japanese car in Israel has drawn considerable outrage for its implied promotion of running over Palestinian kids.
The commercial advertisement, published by a Subaru dealership in Israel, features the scene photographed last year, when an Israeli settler struck two Palestinian children with his car in the East al-Quds (Jerusalem) neighborhood of Silwan before speeding away, Xinhua reported on Thursday.
"We'll see who can stand against you," reads the Hebrew line to the right corner of the picture.
The October incident targeted two youngsters, aged 10 and 12, breaking the younger victim's leg.
Following the attack, the victims initially resisted to be hustled into a car, which apparently meant to take them to a hospital. Palestinian youngsters fear getting into strangers' vehicles because they have seen their friends taken away by Israeli troops posed as civilians on a regular basis.
The acting Palestinian Authority (PA) Chief Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party has said the promotion of the act of aggression "is a dirty advertisement and propaganda that reached to the status of calling for [the] killing Palestinian children by running them over."
The attacker, named David Be'eri, is the director general of Elad, a hard-line real estate development conglomerate.
The organization encourages Jews to move into dense neighborhoods in East al-Quds.
East al-Quds forms part of the Palestinian territories, which Tel Aviv occupied in 1967 and later annexed despite international refusal to recognize either aggression. It has been promised as the capital of any future Palestinian state.

Culture Fest Goes On in Silwan, Despite Israeli Attacks
Confrontations broke out again yesterday, Wednesday 20 April, between Palestinian residents the East Jerusalem village of Silwan and the Israeli police.
Israeli special forces shot large quantities of tear gas and rubber coated steel bullets in the direction of the protest tent established by the residents of Silwan's Al Bustan neighbourhood. The tent was erected in protest of Israel's plan to build a national park in the area, which would result in destruction of their neighbourhood and would render them homeless.
In addition, police officers stationed on the ridge west of the village (between the areas of Silwan and Abu Tor) threw stones at Palestinian cars. The police also blocked several of the entrances to Silwan, in addition to internal roads within the village.
In the neighbourhood of Nir Ayoub near the protest tent, a 20-year-old Palestinian was injured by rubber coated bullet. The young man was taken to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. It should be noted that even in the hospital the injured man was not safe, being exposed to the danger of police detention. The young man accordingly left the hospital quickly, before he had sufficient time to recover.
A Silwan resident told the AIC that Israeli hospitals, including those located in East Jerusalem (such as the Al Moqasad Hosptial) maintain close links with the Israeli police, such that Palestinians injured in confrontations try to avoid going there, and prefer to be treated by private doctors whenever possible.
Undercover police also attempted to detain Palestinian children in the area of Bir Ayoub. The detentions were prevented by a fast response from the neighbourhood youth; on the roads improvised roadblocks were set up with burning tires and garbage bins.
Yesterday evening in the protest tent a cultural evening of literature and rap music with the group DAM was held. The event was planned for the early evening hours, but postponed because of the police attack on the tent, which was filled with tear gas. The event was finally and successfully held at 10pm and attended by tens of visitors, including residents of Silwan and other neighbourhoods in East Jerusalem, international solidarity activists and activists from the Sheikh Jarrah Solidarity movement.
