Name of Victim: Bara’ah Eyaad Shalhah and sister Ranaa: Details of the last hours:
Even though it was not her usual habit, on January 10, seven-year-old Bara’ah woke up at 9 am. Bara’ah used to sleep on the second floor with her aunts, but she did not want to miss having breakfast with her parents. Bara’ah asked her mother to call her father so that they might enjoy a family breakfast together. On her way out the door, an Israeli reconnaissance plane fired its ruthless missile into the gathering neighbors on the street, including Bara’ah’s father. Bara’ah, the gathering men, and thirteen-year-old Bayaan Khalifah were all killed. Bara’ah’s father used to exert great effort so that his precious twins, Bara’ah and Alaa, would be bright students, and so they were. When Bara’ah’s teachers came to offer their condolences, they expressed their deep sorrow for the loss of the most diligent student in the class. As we started the interview with the brokenhearted mother, Alaa was just coming back from school. Seeing her daughter walking through the door alone without Bara’ah, she remembered the sweet times when her precious twins used to return from school together. With eyes full of tears, the poor mother said: ”Bara’ah dreamed of growing up to be a doctor; whenever she found her brother, Mohammad, ill, she would tell me that soon she would be a doctor and be able to treat him.”
Seven-year-old Bara’ah is gone, and she left her twin with painful memories which are too much for a girl of her young age to handle. Seven-year-old Alaa was utterly devastated by her sister’s death; she still asks her mourning mother: ”Mom, where is Bara’ah? Where did my sister go?” Alaa remembers her dear sister: ”I miss her so much. Bara’ah was my twin and my best friend. I remember how she used to be scared whenever she heard the bombs. She would not eat and would cry and say, “I am scared of death. I am afraid to die!”
Seven-year-old Bara’ah was emotionally attached to her aunt, Heba; she would tease her mother, and say:”My aunt Heba is my real mother, and you are my aunt.” They would laugh. Her mother says: “My darling daughter was a funny, pretty, and innocent little angel. These merciless criminals murdered my innocent little girl. What did she do to them to deserve such a ruthless death? A few seconds before her death, she was telling me about her new game. I honestly do not know how to live without her…”

of Beit Lahya, Gaza, killed, with: mother, brother and two sisters, by an IDF missile while at home in Beit Lahya.
Ranaa: Details of the last hours:
Silence fell over the place while the Fayz family was enjoying a few seconds of deep sleep. Then, the terrifying sound of a warning missile broke the silence of the night. The horrible sound struck terror into the poor mother who ran frantically in her desperate attempt to save her precious children from the ruthless Israeli attack. The terror-stricken mother grasped her older son, Nour, by the arm and pulled him out of his bed telling him to take his siblings, aunts, and cousins and run for their lives. The dutiful son did what his mother told him and they sought refuge in the street from the heavy bombing on their home. Meanwhile, the terrified mother was rushed off her feet as she tried to rescue her dear children and get them out of the house. Unfortunately, the vicious Israeli attack was faster than the mother and she was too late to save them. The second missile beheaded the mother and the poor children were torn to shreds.
Nour and his surviving siblings walked over the remains of their mother and other siblings while fragments flew over their heads. However, they managed to escape the heavy indiscriminate attack and became living proof of the barbaric Israeli massacre of the Fayz family. The grief-stricken son took his mother’s shoe out of the rubble and with eyes full of bitter tears started kissing it and screaming out of pain and grief. The poor child could not believe that his dear mother and beloved siblings were gone. After all, she had just told him to run out of the house. The devastated children walked sadly over the remains of their murdered family, screaming and crying but there was no answer and no one to help.
Ranaa was a diligent sixth-grade student in elementary school; she was a distinguished and well-mannered student with remarkably high morals. Her life was quite busy with various activities; learning Qur’an recitation and studying her lessons. Her brokenhearted father says:”Ranaa memorized three chapters of the Noble Qur’an before she died. She was just starting to memorize the fourth but these criminals would not let her.” Ranna looked older than she is; she was funny and pretty with an continual smile on her tiny reddish lips. She was a true friend; she always kept in touch with her friends. Even during vacations she would write to them and send them cards she had made herself. With broken hearts and eyes full of tears, her mourning friends offer their condolences to her grieving family, or those who survived the attack.
Ranaa was her dad’s little girl; she was the apple of her father’s eye. She was his blue-eyed girl; he could not say no to her especially when it came to buying her the materials she needed for her handicrafts which she was really good at. Her father says: ”She could not wait to learn a new card design so that she could make it and give it to someone she loved.”
Like any twelve-year-old girl, Ranaa dreamed of enjoying her childhood, finishing high school, and then entering the university. Ranaa always dreamed of studying medicine and hoped to become a great doctor; however, ruthless Israeli missiles robbed her of her life and buried her unfulfilled dreams under the rubble.

Ghanimeh Sultan Fawzi Halawah, 10Fatmeh Raed Zaki Jadallah, 10
Ghanimeh: Details of the Last Hours:
The conditions in Gaza have terrified all people. But mother of martyr Ghanima worried about an additional issue. The mother saw a vision about her mother in law asking her husband to bring her some "kunafah" (a kind of sweets), and sought a special kind which is very slender and delicious. That dream was interpreted that some member of the family will die, and it came true; it was her daughter, Ghanima.
Like all inhabitants of the area, Ghanima's mother evacuated and left her house. Two days later she went back home to wash clothes there and Ghanima followed her. When the mother finished washing she started to hang the washing on the clothesline, while Ghanima stood by the door carrying her baby sister Sujoud whom she loved very much, waiting for her mother to finish and go together to her grandfather's house.
Ghanima stayed at the door for some time looking to each part of the house as if she was saying farewell to it. Her mother followed her and asked her to wait until they went out together. Yet Ghanima replied: "You are worried about me mum! You took your fill of me today, and I gave you your kiss. Now I yearn to be a martyr."
Ghanima's mother cried when she heard these words. After five minutes Ghanima's supplication was answered as she was killed on Friday at the house door with an Israeli shell.
The mother says: "my daughter ran quickly to see what happened, then she came back shouting 'Ghanima got martyred, mum; her hand is cut off and her body burnt…but I don't see Sujoud'." The shocked mother ran to the place of the crime, but she couldn't tolerate the monstrous scene and fainted.
Other Information:
Ghanima fell martyr, while her beloved sister who was just a baby was thrown meters away by force of strike and splinters penetrated her body, and a surgical operation will be done for her within a month.
Ghanima's mother says: "As soon as I began washing the clothes Ghanima asked me to give her a shower, and I did. Then she asked me to style her hair. It was strange of her as she used to style it herself, and she said to me 'by Allah, mum, I like you style my hair for me today', so I did it. Then she decided to change her clothes which she had just put on, saying 'I want to wear the clothes of the `Eid (festival)'. I refused because there was no time for that. Then I hurriedly sympathized with her and told her to wear whatever she liked. She wore a jeans and a woolen blouse and kissed me."
Ghanima was the third one among Sultan's seven children; however she was the most beloved by her mother, who says: "she was very intelligent, and unlike her sisters she used to obey me at once."
Her Dreams:
Like most of Gaza girls, Ghanima dreamt to build a beautiful house with her husband where she would bring up her children after completing her studies.

Ala of Jabalya, Gaza, killed by IDF tankfire in Jabalya.
Muhammad: Details of the last hours:
No sooner had Muhammad Abo El-Hosna heard the sound of missiles and shells showering every spot in north Gaza, than he rushed to the house door. At the sight of aftermath of destruction and ruins, Muhammad stood on the threshold pondering how the Israelis depraved him of leading a normal life. In that alley in front of his home, he used to play with his fellows and enjoy the neighbors’ gatherings in the afternoons, all that was vanished after the Israeli onslaught on Gaza. Not too long, Muhammad’s storm of memories was came to an end suddenly when an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft observed his small body and shot him and caused his body to scatter everywhere.
Muhammad, 12 years old, was the oldest son of his brothers. He was surrounded with much care especially during his education. Muhammad was a distinguished first grade student at a primary school whose parents wished that he would graduate from some high-class college.
The mother remembered Muhammad saying “Despite his childhood, Muhammad was bearing responsibility like grown up people, especially when his father was absent. At the same time, my son was a hard-working student who paid much attention to his studies.”
The mother spoke about Muhammad’s merits saying: “My dear son was so delicate and kind-hearted with everybody; his sisters in particular. He used to respond to the requests of his sisters. He was never a trouble maker and all our neighbors have certified his politeness. Everybody loved that boy a lot.”
Muhammad’s younger brother ponders how all the beautiful moments he shared with Muhammad have been turned into deep sorrow and grief for his death “Together we played and went to the market; “together” that’s how our mother loved to see us so as we can protect each other.”
As for the father, he said “I was so delighted to take him on my errands, or to depend on him to take care of the family and provide its basic needs. Muhammad was so brave in spite of being pampered by everyone. During the war, Muhammad used to calm down his frightened brothers saying “Why are you afraid, martyrdom is a great gift from Allah.”
His Dreams:
Muhammad dreamt to be a computer engineer; he adored the computer sciences very much and exerted his utmost efforts to pursuit and improve himself in such technology.

Nariman: On 9 January 2009, the Abu Oda household in the Al Amal neighbourhood of Beit Hanoun came under sustained fire from Israeli positions close to the Gaza-Israeli border two kilometres away.

Medics were unable to reach the family and Nariman died before she could receive medical attention.

The Abu Oda family
"The Israeli military say they are the most moral army in the world, but they killed my daughter, they didn’t respect her right to live.”
On 9 January 2009, the Abu Oda household in the Al Amal neighbourhood of Beit Hanoun came under sustained fire from Israeli positions close to the Gaza-Israeli border two kilometres away.
Nariman Abu Oda, 16, was hit in the right side of her body by Israeli fire as she was walking from the hallway, where the family were taking cover, to the kitchen. Medics were unable to reach the family and Nariman died before she could receive medical attention.
The pockmarked concrete walls of the Abu Oda household tell a good deal of the story of Nariman’s death. Despite the best efforts of father Ahmed Abdel Kareem Muhammad, fifty-seven, and mother, I’tidal Abd al Aziz, fifty-three, to plaster over the patch work of holes and indentations in the walls, ceiling, floors and doors, the house remains riddled with bullet holes. As I’tidal explains “it is clear the shooting was completely indiscriminate.”
Nariman’s mother and father keep returning to the question, why did this happen? For them, it is not an empty rhetorical question, but one that holds a great deal of weight and a great deal of their concern. “Why my daughter? What were their motives? What were their reasons?” asks Ahmed. “The Israeli military say they are the most moral army in the world, but they killed my daughter, they didn’t respect her right to live.”
The Abu Oda family find themselves caught in a deep state of mourning regarding Nariman’s absence, yet at the same time feel her constant presence. Recalling that Nariman used to make him his coffee in the morning, Ahmed says that, he still absentmindedly calls for Nariman when he wants coffee or tea.
“Her room is still exactly as she left it three years ago, with everything still in its place.” Despite this, the family are desperately seeking to move; “we do not want to live in the house that Nariman was killed in,” says Ahmed.
Adding to the sense of presence Nariman has in the house, I’tidal and Ahmed’s children Shadi, thirty-four, Abdel Kareem, thirty-two, and Sahar, thirty, have all since had daughters whom they named Nariman, in the memory of their younger sister.
I’tidal was deeply affected physically and mentally by the loss of her daughter who used to help her a lot with daily household chores. “When I see young girls going to school I imagine her with them, I see her in every room of the house, I will never forget her.
After the incident I was admitted to the hospital for ten days due to shock” recalls I’tidal, “since then I have suffered from huge physical problems resulting from stress.” I’tidal has health complications relating to blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
The family did not only lose Nariman during the Israeli offensive, but also their livelihood. The family had a citrus grove and a poultry farm that were totally destroyed during the attack and have another farm that they cannot reach due to its proximity to the Israeli imposed buffer zone.
The family have recently planted seedlings in one of the destroyed farms again but are still waiting to harvest them. However, the loss of income from the farms is mentioned merely as an afterthought to the loss of Nariman. “We care nothing for the loss of our land compared to the loss of our daughter” says Ahmed.
Speaking of the future the couple are desperately seeking answers and demand accountability. “I don’t expect the case to be successful, they will change the facts, the only thing I want is to address the soldier who killed my daughter” says Ahmed. “But I hope one day that we can reach peace with the Israeli’s and end the war and the killing.”
PCHR submitted a criminal complaint to the Israeli authorities on behalf of the Abu Oda Family on 30 August 2009. To-date, no response has been received.

Gaza father: I want to address soldier who killed teen daughter
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The family of a 16-year-old girl killed in Israel's Operation Cast Lead remain plagued by questions three years after her death, as a criminal complaint to Israeli authorities goes unanswered.
"Why my daughter? What were their motives? What were their reasons?" asks Ahmed Abu Oda.
"The Israeli military say they are the most moral army in the world, but they killed my daughter, they didn’t respect her right to live."
Nariman Abu Oda was killed on Jan. 9, 2009 by Israeli fire on her home in Beit Hanoun, and the house remains riddled with bullet holes, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, which submitted the complaint in August that year, reports.
"It is clear the shooting was completely indiscriminate," her mother Itidal explains.
Her husband says he knows the legal compliant will not change the fact of his daughter's death, but "the only thing I want is to address the soldier who killed my daughter."
"But I hope one day that we can reach peace with the Israelis and end the war and the killing," he says.
The family, whose citrus grove and poultry farm was also destroyed in the three-week offensive, are struggling to move from their home. "We do not want to live in the house that Nariman was killed in," Ahmed says.
All three of their children have since had daughters who they named Nariman, in memory of their sister.

Ali Kamal: Details of the last hours:
Children of Gaza returned to school after the mid-year vacation, during which they suffered the most hostile war in their history in the besieged strip. `Ali Kamal An-Nadr did not return join his friends back to school because he was killed on January 10, 2009.
`Ali, a 10-year-old boy in the fifth year at 'An-Naqab' primary school in Jibalia, went with his elder brother `Aamer -16 years old- to perform maghrib prayer at 'As-Sayyeda Khadijah' mosque. Before Burj Es-Sultan in their way to the mosque, Israeli tank shells aimed at them, killing `Ali, `Aamer, and another two kids from the same place; their torn body parts scattered over the ground before the imam starts started the prayer. Also In addition, some people who were going to perform prayer were injured, including the father of `Ali's father and `Aamer, who went to the mosque three minutes before his kids.
`Ali was the youngest son of Um `Abdullah; so he was much pampered. His mother says that `Ali's behavior was not as usual on his last days. Since the beginning of the Israeli assault he used to feel terrified whenever he heard the sound of the rockets and aircrafts. A week later he changed; he used to tell me news about the martyrs and injured people in the neighborhood. When I Ali's mother asked him about his fears, he answered "I am no longer fearful".
`Ali, the 10-year-old, was not an ordinary person. In the early days of the Israeli assault he was a real humanitarian, but in his own style. He hurried to aid an injured person near his house and sought asking all the house inhabitants to rescue him.
Um `Abdullah was not at home when her children were killed. She was in a visiting to her widowed sister when her nephew whispering to his mother said that `Ali was injured. Um `Abdullah requested asked the boy to explain but he denied what happened for fear that the shock would be over her endurance. she might not stand the shock.
In a hurry going home she heard a woman telling that both sons of Abu `Abdullah An-Nadr were martyred. Um `Abdullah got startled and asked the woman about it, but the woman also denied that the injured were Um `Abdullah's sons. Even though, Um `Abdullah had a strong feeling that something bad has befallen them. She walked home praying to Allah to give her patience if something bad happened to her children or house.
Other Information:
Being the youngest of Abu `Abdullah's sons, `Ali had great love for his elder brother `Aamer; they shared a lot of things. `Ali used to fast in Ramadan since he was just 5 years old. During the Israeli assault he and his brother `Aamer were preoccupied with providing their family with water and bread although security conditions were not available every strict. They were keen on offering help to relatives and neighbors as if they were aid official workers.
His sister Zakiyya, who study studies Arabic language at the Islamic College, says she felt that `Ali was striving for Allah's sake, and when she noticed a change in his behavior towards the ideal, she felt that something would befall him.
Um `Abdullah once had seven children, but now she lost the youngest two `Ali and `Aamer.
She directs is sending a message to the world: "We are all due to Allah, and we will all return to Him! I narrate this to the world to awake their conscience ……. I ask them what guilt those children have to be killed for in such a way"
She adds: "I pray to Allah in all prostrations prostration to shake the earth under Israelis' feet as they killed our children and prevented deprived me and mothers in Gaza from the apple pupils of our eyes and the joy of our hearts."

Amir Kamal: Details of Last Hours:
In the evening of the tenth of January, the sixteen-years old `Amir An-Nadr went out with his brother to offer Al-Maghrib Salah in the mosque. When they reached the region that is called Abraj Al-Sultan, the Israeli tanks aimed shells at them, thereupon their bodies were scattered in that street. `Amir and his brother were killed, whereas a number of the passers were injured including their father.
The mother of the two sons was in her sister's hosue when she heard the news of their death. The mother said with a torn heart: "I shall narrate to the world so that the people's consciousness may wake up. I ask them what the guilt of those children was in order to be killed in such a merciless way. I always supplicate Allah in my prayer to make the earth shake under Israel because they deprived me as well as the mothers of Gaza from our children."
Other Information:
If the saying "One's name reflects his personality", all the people of the neighborhood in which `Amir lived testify that he was up to that name.
His mother remembers his honesty and his bearing of responsibility during the war. Two days before his death and when his family lost water, he suggested to his mother that he would fetch water from the neighbor's house which they left for fear of the bombard.
Their house key was with them as a trust in order to feed the chickens of their neighbor. He said to his mother: "I shall fetch water from the house of Abu Muhammad As-Sultan, but after he comes back, I will tell him that we took two buckles of water from their house."
She narrates with full sorrow her love to this kind son, the bereft mother said: "Parents condole their children with no exception but there is an extra joy for some of them. `Amir was my favorite son among his four male brothers and the three female sisters. He was respectful, polite, and obedient in the house and in the entire neighborhood. `Amir was different."
His Dreams:
`Amir wished to study "the English language" in college, but he also respected the wish of his father to study in the faculty of "Usul Ad-Din" (Fundamentals of the Islamic Religion).

Maria Bayaan Khaled Ibraheem Khaleef, 13
'Abd al-Hakim Khader Muhammad Sultan, 14
'Abt of Gaza City, Gaza, killed by the IDF in Gaza City's al-Tufah neighborhood
Bayaan: Details of the last hours:
Thirteen-year-old Bayaan was longing to have his normal life back so that he could play, run, and tease his friends in the large yard in front of his home. Driven by her great fear for the life of her precious son and seeking to protect him from vicious indiscriminate Israeli attack that left no place safe in the whole city of Gaza, the caring mother banned her son from going outside the house. On the morning of January 10, the dutiful son obeyed his mother and settled for standing in his balcony gazing at the quiet empty street that was once full of life. He saw a few neighbors standing on the corner talking together. Then, the loving brother called for his siblings to come and have their breakfast, and in the twinkling of an eye, Bayaan was silenced before he could even finish his sentence. Fragments from a missile fired from an Israeli reconnaissance plane hit the gathering of neighbors on the street, and it also hit thirteen-year-old Bayaan in the head. Bayaan, and a little girl named Baraah Shalhah, were killed.
Bayaan was one academic year behind; he joined his younger brother, Ameer, in the sixth grade in the elementary school. Ameer could not go to his school without his brother and his best friend; he misses Bayaan and asks his mother:”What I am supposed to do without him? How can I live without Bayaan?” These are questions that have no answer. Ameer says bitterly: “I loved Bayaan so much; we played together all the time. I do not know how to live without him.”
It was Mother’s Day when we visited Bayaan’s heartbroken mother, she told us: “I can not believe that my darling son is gone for ever! I am still holding onto his sweet memory. I recall how he saved some money from his allowance last year to buy me a gift on Mother’s Day and he insisted that I pick the gift myself. Alas, these criminals have murdered my child. What is my child’s crime? What did he do to them to deserve such a ruthless death? I hope Allaah will take my revenge for me.”
Still grieving for her son, the stricken mother is still unable to move on with her life. She does not think that she is able to live without her precious son. What hurts her most is how her younger son, Ameer, was so emotionally attached to Bayaan.
She says: “They were in the same class. They used to go to school and come back together every day. Today, Ameer came to me, and asked: “How can I live without Bayaan, Mama?” Poor Ameer, he can not even play anymore without him.”
