Israel Breaches Gaza Ceasefire: Invades, Kills 7, Seizes Many
mourners carry the body of a hamas fighter killed by israeli forces during ground incursions
While I worked alongside politicos; while americans voted and watched the votes get counted; while the media was consumed with barak obama, the israeli army used its time to commit horrific acts in the gaza strip. by the end of three days, israel will have killed SEVEN palestinians, seized many more and injured dozens.
After a 5 month ceasefire, began by hamas and held despite difficult circumstances, on tuesday the israeli army boldly violated the calm with a series of invasions and air strikes on the gaza strip. palestinian resistance fighters thus responded in kind and launched a series of projectile attacks. this is the first such air strike during the ceasefire.
So what happened on tuesday? israeli military forces, including tanks, invaded deir al-balah, in the central the gaza strip. initial reports indicate that israeli forces were attempting to destroy a tunnel they claim was to be used to abduct an israeli soldier.
While attempting to resist the israeli military advance, six members of hamas' armed wing, the al-qassam brigades, were killed. the gaza government has named the dead as:
Mazin Sa'da, 32
Mamhoud Ba'lusha, 21
Omar Al-Alami, 20
Muhammad Awad, 26
Wajd Muharib, 19
Ammar Sailhiyya, 21
the bodies of several palestinians killed in israeli invasions are carried by mourners near khan younis refugee camp in central gaza
Additionally, several other palestinians, including a woman, were injured. some of the injuries were sustained as israeli tanks fired on civilians homes in the deir al-balah area, while others were injured as the results of missiles launched from israeli war planes. these missiles struck in various areas in deir al-balah. during these operations, four israeli occupation soldiers were reportedly injured.
Armored israeli bulldozers demolished two palestinian homes belonging to the al-hamaydi family, in central gaza's al-quarara neighborhood. additionally, israeli forces in this area seized at least seven palestinians from the same family, including three women.
occupation soldiers "escort" three captured palestinian women to the kissufim army base. these women were among those seized from the al-Humeidi family.
Some of those taken were named as:
1- Sharihan al-Humeidi, a 22 year old female, her sister,
2- Hanan Hassan, 26, their two brothers
3- Radwan and
4- Nu'man, and the wives of the brothers,
5- Samar Abu Shabab, 19 and

Ceasefire in question as Israeli forces invade Gaza Strip
Gaza - Ma'an - Tensions heightened in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, a day after six Hamas fighters died resisting a late-night Israeli incursion.
The six dead Palestinians belonged to the Al-Qassam Brigades, a military wing affiliated with Hamas.
Officials on both sides voiced concerns that the five-month long Hamas-Israel ceasefire could be in jeopardy.
Crowds of people attended the funeral processions for the six slain fighters in the city of Khan Younis and Al-Maghazi refugee camp on Wednesday.
In Khan Younis, the mourners walked from Nasser Hospital to the houses of the dead to the mosque for prayers and then to the cemetery.
Armed men marched at the front of the processions, firing in the air and swearing to avenge the killings.
While Palestinian officials considered Tuesday's incursion and air raids "a scandalous violation of the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire," Israel claims its operation was aimed at destroying a tunnel intended for abducting Israeli soldiers.
In retaliation to the Israeli crossover, Palestinian militant groups fired off dozens of mortar shells and homemade projectiles at Israeli targets. One landed in a public park in the center of Ashkelon, an Israeli city near the Gaza Strip.
Two Israelis were treated for shock. Security representatives also said that three soldiers were injured by shrapnel. Two of them suffered moderate to serious wounds, a medical official said.
In addition to the Israelis, six Hamas activists were killed and several others injured, Hamas said. One of the injured Gaza residents is reportedly a woman.
Israeli forces demolished two Palestinian homes in the central Gaza Strip neighborhood of Al-Qurara, near the Kissufim Gate.
The de facto government's director of Ambulance and Emergency Services within the Health Ministry identified the victims as
32-year-old Mazin Sa'da,
21-year-old Mahmoud Ba'lusha,
20-year-old Omar Al-Alami,
26-year-old Muhammad Awad,
19-year-old Wajid Muharib and
21-year-old Ammar Salihiyya.
He added that several others had been injured.
Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, several Israeli tanks invaded Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip before progressing another 300 meters past the border fence, firing on Palestinian homes. As a result, 32-year-old Mazin Sa'da was killed and four other citizens were injured.
Simultaneously, Israeli warplanes launched several missiles at open areas east of Deir Al-Balah.
Meanwhile, Israeli military bulldozers demolished two homes that belonged to the Al-Hamaydi family near Wadi As-Salqa, and apprehended seven Palestinians from the same family, including three women.
On Wednesday morning, Israeli drones launched three missiles toward the northern Gaza Strip, one missile at the Al-Fukhari neighborhood in the southern Gaza Strip and two missiles at Al-Qarara, east of Khan Younis.
Initial reports indicated that there were casualties in the raid on the northern Gaza Strip.
Hamas's militant wing announced on Wednesday that it launched four homemade projectiles at Ashkelon, six toward Beeri Kibutz, seven at Magen and Miftaheim, another seven at Nir Izhaq and several others toward Yad Murdakhai, Alumim, Kfar Azza and an Israeli artillery station east of Gaza City.
The Brigades also said 22 mortar shells were fired at invading Israeli military vehicles in the central Gaza Strip, while a homemade projectile launched toward the Sufa military post.
Hamas officials affirmed they would block any Israeli attempt to invade the Gaza Strip, regardless of the ceasefire, "which will not prevent us from defending the Palestinian people." The wing's statement warned of retaliations to any further invasion attempts.
Islamic Jihad's Al-Quds Brigades and Fatah's Al-Aqsa Brigades also said in statements that they fired weapons in a joint operation. Two homemade projectiles were fired at the Megen military post, east of the Al-Maghazi Refugee Camp in the central Gaza Strip. Al-Quds said it fired two homemade projectiles at Sderot in retaliation for "the Israeli massacre in the central Gaza Strip."
An Israeli military spokesperson maintained that the incursion came after Israeli intelligence received reports that Hamas planned to abduct an Israeli soldier through a tunnel beneath the border.
"The Palestinians detonated the tunnel after Israeli forces besieged the building," he claimed.
With regard to the ceasefire, the spokesperson said the Israeli incursions intend to "protect the ceasefire," without elaborating on how military incursions would aid in this goal.
The de facto government held the Israeli government responsible for all the consequences of their "aggression," describing it as the most serious violation of the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire since it went into effect in June.
Islamic Jihad announced that the ceasefire would not prevent Palestinian resistance fighters from retaliating against Israeli violations and aggression, which culminated Tuesday night.
Fatah's Al-Aqsa Brigades also said it would direct their fighters to the Gaza Strip in order to prepare for retaliatory measures in light of Israeli violations, promising to "shell Israeli towns."
A spokesperson for the Palestinian National Resistance Committees said that "Israel shot dead the ceasefire agreement and alerted Palestinian factions that Israeli forces plan to (again) invade the Gaza Strip soon."
Representing Hamas, Fawzi Barhoom told Ma'an that "Israel committed a great aggression and violation of the truce last night."
He called on Israeli authorities to take responsibility for the consequences of such an attack, insisting that "what is being performed by the Al-Qassam forces is retaliation for Israeli aggressions."
"Israel will pay a high price for violating the truce," he added.
Barhoom said that Hamas informed Egyptian leaders about the violation and called on the country to take steps to make Israel adhere with the truce. He also called on other sides working under the truce to weigh in, as well.
Barhoum suggested that Israel timed the attacks to coincide with the American presidential election, hoping to keep out of the spotlight.

Israel Breaches Ceasefire 2nd Time This Week, Kills 8
Palestinians react as they carry the body of a miltant killed in clashes with the Israeli army, at the hospital in the Khan Younis refugee camp, southern Gaza Strip
today, wednesday, the israeli occupation army once again laid a crushing blow to the hamas-backed gaza-israel ceasefire nearly entering its sixth month.
since june 2006, hamas has been able to maintain a 'state of calm' with israel, preventing its fighters from launching offensive maneuvers, and for the most part, preventing fighters from other factions from attacking as well. despite the palestinians' dedication to the pact, israel has continually violated the rules by:
1.) not fully opening gaza's borders as promised, and
2.) occasionally invading gaza, firing into gaza from israel, firing on gazan fishermen and...
3.) killing ELEVEN palestinians in the past week!
six days ago, israel committed the most serious ceasefire violation since june by invading the gaza strip and killing seven palestinians. today, the occupation army has once again breached the agreement, invaded gaza and killed four palestinians.
Palestinians wheel the body of a Hamas fighter into the Nasir hospital in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip
israeli spokesmen report that their invasion was prompted by palestinians laying explosives inside gaza near the israeli border. according to the BBC, the israeli army was quoted as saying:
"This morning, the Israeli Defence Forces identified armed gunmen attempting to place an explosive device near the security fence in the central Gaza Strip."
this is a common claim made by the israeli army operating in this area. note that the claim is that gazans were laying explosives in gaza, (not in israel) in a territory that is designated as palestinian-administered and autonomous. if gaza truly is under palestinian rule, then why would the israeli army be allowed to invade under the pretense of preventing palestinians from establishing border defenses?
during the military operation, israeli military forces invaded gaza near the town of khan younis and clashed with palestinians resistance fighters. this occurred while israeli fighter jets fired missiles into gaza. local news reports indicate that at least one israeli missile struck the al-Islah mosque while a second struck adjacent to a school. other report indicate that the missiles struck the homes of the al-Muhanna and an-Naja families, as well as the al-Islah mosque.

the fighting on the ground involved invading israeli tanks, armored bulldozers and other combat vechiles, and palestinian fighters firing at least three mortars and at least one other homemade explosive device. these clashes occurred east of al-Qarara and resulted in the death of four palestinian fighters. the four men killed are all reported to be fighters with hamas' armed wing, the al-qassam brigades. The men have been named as:
- Mahmoud Siyam
- Rami Freinah
- Muhsen Al-Qidrah
- Isma'il Abu Al-Ola

following the invasion and killings, palestinian resistance fighters responded by launching at least two homemade projectiles and "a number of" mortar shells. according to the israeli army, the rockets and mortars caused no damage or injury.
we can expect to see more homemade projectiles launched over the next few hours and days. last week, when israel broke the ceasefire and killed seven, palestinian fighters responded by firing approximately 80 homemade rockets and mortars into the southern israeli desert. these 80 projectiles resulted in no injuries.

Israeli forces kill four Palestinian fighters in Gaza incursion
Gaza - Ma'an - Israeli forces killed four Hamas-affiliated Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip near the town of Al-Qarara on Wednesday, medics on confirmed.
Witnesses said Israeli warplanes fired two missiles during fighting between the armed men and Israeli tanks who had invaded. One missile was fired at a mosque, and the other exploded near a school, where the fighters were located.
Other witnesses reported a different version of the airstrike. According this account, three missiles landed near houses belonging to two families named Aal Muhanna and An-Naja, and another landed near the Al-Islah mosque.
The four slain men were identified as
Mahmoud Siyam,
Rami Freinah,
Muhsen Al-Qidrah and
Isma'il Abu Al-Ola.
Earlier on Wednesday Israeli tanks and armored bulldozers invaded the Gaza Strip east of Al-Qarara, sparking clashes with Palestinian fighters.
Witnesses said the invading forces are approached houses approximately 300 meters away from the border line.
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, confirmed that its forces clashed with the Israeli military in that area.
Israeli military sources claimed that they had thwarted an attempt by Palestinians to cross the border fence near the Kisufim crossing and plant a bomb. The military also said that three mortar shells and an explosive device were fired at Israeli forces in the area.
Israeli military vehicles often patrol a 150-meter "buffer zone" inside the Strip's eastern border, usually avoiding direct clashes with Palestinian fighters.
Israel and the ruling Hamas movement in Gaza agreed to a truce in June. The ceasefire was thrown into question last Tuesday night when Israeli forces killed six Palestinian armed men. Palestinian military organizations responded by firing dozens of homemade rockets into Israel, causing little damage.

Israeli airstrike leaves Palestinian gunman dead in north Gaza
Gaza - Ma'an - The Popular Resistance Committees in the Gaza Strip announced on Saturday that one of its fighters was killed and another was critically injured in an Israeli airstrike.
The reported attack occured near the Hammuda gas station east of the city of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip.
An Israeli military spokesperson denied that Israeli forces had launched any strikes against the northern Gaza Strip. He claimed that what had happened there was internal explosion.
A spokesperson of the An-Nasser Brigades, the militant wing affiliated with the Popular Resistance Committees, Abu Al-Ataya, said the two gunmen were on an exploratory mission, but not carrying projectiles. He accused Israel of targeting them and threatened to retaliate.
