Hezbollah: Israel targeted all of Lebanon
Lebanese soldiers take up positions in the Wazzani border area on August 1, 2011.
The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah says the recent Israeli attack on the Lebanese Army is tantamount to an offensive against the entire country.
On Monday, the Israeli military opened fire on a military base in the Wazzani border area in southern Lebanon, prompting the Lebanese soldiers to fire back.
At least one Lebanese national was reportedly wounded in the incident.
Afterwards the Lebanese military declared a state of alert.
“Any attack against any element of the army, people, and resistance equation is an assault against the whole of Lebanon,” Hezbollah said in a statement issued in response to the Israeli aggression, the Lebanese news portal Naharnet reported.
Hezbollah stated that the attack was carried out “in a provocative and surprising way.”
“This crime is a reminder for the Lebanese people of the aggressive nature of the Zionist enemy and its greed in the Lebanese territory,” the statement added.
In August 2010, three Lebanese soldiers, a Lebanese journalist, and a senior Israeli officer were killed during an exchange of fire that broke out after an Israeli patrol unit crossed the Lebanese border.
It was the deadliest incident initiated by Israel against Lebanon since the 2006 war, which killed around 1,200 Lebanese. Most of the victims were civilians.

Israeli Soldiers Violently Suppress Demo; Sweep Through Houses to Carry Out Arbitrary Arrests in Nabi Saleh.
(7:03) Nabi Saleh 29.7.2011
Following a week of escalating violence against the people of Nabi Saleh, Armored military vehicles and dozens of soldiers stormed the village of Nabi Saleh and took over houses hours before the scheduled. Three were injured and seven were detained.
(2:33) sabarnamwajhat nabe ==saleh
Military checkpoints were set up early in the morning on all roads leading in and out of Nabi Saleh this Friday, as the Israeli army does every Friday in its attempt to prevent people from outside the tiny village to support the villagers in their struggle for land and dignity under the Occupation.
A few hours before the demonstration was scheduled to begin, a number of armored military vehicles drove into the village and unloaded dozens of soldiers into its single street. In the clashes that ensued with local youth, the soldiers shot volleys of tear-gas and took over two houses. In the first of what seemed to be a systematic attempt to stifle media coverage, a Palestinian cameraman was beaten and then detained despite having showed his accreditation with the al-Ayyam daily newspaper, only to be released a few hours later without his camera's memory card.
Meanwhile, and American activist on his way to the protest, was detained by the soldiers manning the checkpoint at the main entrance to the village. His wallet, phone, passport and driver's license were taken away from him as he could see smoke and hear shooting coming from the direction of the village.
Eventually, his possessions were returned to him and he was told to turn around and head back to Ramallah. A military jeep was sent trailing his car to make sure he indeed does so. Shortly after regaining his phone, the activist found out that soldiers at the checkpoint used his logged-in twitter account to post anti-protest messages in broken English.
A screencap of the activist's hijacked Twitter feed
After the Friday midday prayer, people were able to gather next to the village's mosque, but were attacked less than a hundred meters after the peaceful march began in a hail of tear-gas shot from multiple directions. Every attempt to regroup and resume marching was again answered by a shower of tear-gas projectiles, many of them shot directly at demonstrators. Three protesters were injured that way, including one in her head.
At some point, soldiers begun sweeping through houses, going door to door, randomly detaining people in the street or from inside their houses. Three Palestinians and three international activists were detained this way, only to be released later with no charge and without even being questioned. Soldiers also detained an Israeli cameraman who tried to film the soldiers wanton rampage through the village. His camera was violently snatched from him, causing it to break. Like the other detainees, he, too, was released shortly after.
Background
Late in 2009, settlers began gradually taking over Ein al-Qaws (the Arch Spring), which personally belongs to Bashir Tamimi, the head of the Nabi Saleh village council. The settlers, abetted by the army, erected a shed over the spring, renamed it Maayan Meir, after a late settler, and began driving away Palestinians who came to use the spring by force - at times throwing stones or even pointing guns at them, threatening to shoot.
While residents of Nabi Saleh have already endured decades of continuous land grab and expulsion to allow for the ever continuing expansion of the Halamish settlement, the takeover of the spring served as the last straw that lead to the beginning of the village’s grassroots protest campaign of weekly demonstrations in demand for the return of their lands.
While the model of regularly held protests around the construction of Israel’s Separation Barrier became a common one in recent years, the protests in Nabi Saleh mark a significant break from that tradition, in that protest there is entirely unrelated to the Barrier. This expansion of the popular resistance model symbolizes the growing support the model enjoys among Palestinians, and the growing positive discourse around it across the Palestinian political spectrum.
Protest in the tiny village enjoys the regular support of International and Israeli activists, as well as that of Palestinians from the surrounding areas. Demonstrations in Nabi Saleh are also unique in the level of women participation in them, and the role they hold in all their aspects, including organizing. Such participation, which often also includes the participation of children mirrors the village’s commitment to a truly popular grassroots mobilization, encompassing all segments of the community.
The Israeli military’s response to the protests has been especially brutal and includes regularly laying complete siege on village every Friday, accompanied by the declaration of the entire village, including the built up area, as a closed military zone. Prior and during the demonstrations themselves, the army often completely occupies the village, in effect enforcing an undeclared curfew of sort. Military nighttime raids and arrest operations are also a common tactic in the army’s strategy of intimidation, often targeting minors.
Emily Henochowicz
In order to prevent the villagers and their supporters from exercising their fundamental right to demonstrate and march to their lands, soldiers regularly use disproportional force against the unarmed protesters. The means utilized by the army to hinder demonstrations include, but are not limited to, the use of tear-gas projectiles, banned high-velocity tear-gas projectiles, rubber-coated bullets and, at times, even live ammunition.
The use of such practices have already caused countless injuries, several of them serious, including those of children - the most serious of which is that of 14 year-old Ehab Barghouthi, who was shot in the head with a rubber-coated bullet from short range on March 5th, 2010 and laid comatose in the hospital for three weeks.
Ehab Barghouthi
In complete disregard to the army’s own open fire regulations, soldiers often shoot tear-gas projectiles directly at groups of protesters or individuals and rubber bullets are indiscriminately shot at protesters from short distances. The army has also resumed using high velocity tear-gas projectiles in Nabi Saleh, despite the fact that they have declared banned for use after causing the death of Bassem Abu Rahmah in Bil’in in April 2009, and the critical injury of American protester Tristan Anderson in Ni’ilin in March of the same year.
Tear-gas, as well as a foul liquid called “The Skunk”, which is shot from a water cannon, is often used inside the built up area of the village, or even directly pointed into houses, in a way that allows no refuge for the uninvolved residents of the village, including children and the elderly. The interior of at least one house caught fire and was severely damaged after soldiers shot a tear-gas projectile through its windows.
Since December 2009, when protest in the village was sparked, hundreds of demonstration-related injuries caused by disproportionate military violence have been recorded in Nabi Saleh.
Between January 2010 and June 2011, the Israeli Army has carried 76 arrests of people detained for 24 hours or more on suspicions related to protest in the village of Nabi Saleh, including those of women and of children as young as 11 years old. Of the 76, 18 were minors. Dozens more were detained for shorter periods.

Israeli attacks on children alarmingly high
(2:13) Israeli attacks on children alarmingly high - Press TV News 1 x viewed
According to the Palestinian Government Media Center, there is an alarming rate of accelerated Israeli attacks on Palestinian children in the year 2011. So far this year, 9 Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli settlers and soldiers, and approximately 200 children have been injured by either the Israeli occupation forces or by Israeli settlers.
The statement claimed that “Hundreds of children are being illegally rounded up monthly by Israeli forces and detained, abused, and imprisoned without due process of law and in direct violation of international, Israeli, and Palestinian laws.” The majority of these children are abducted by the Occupation forces, without informing their parents, and are questioned by the occupation forces.
The Palestinian Authority urged the UN to implement resolution 1998 which protects the right of children in conflict. The PA also urged non-governmental organizations to take legal action against these clear violations of international humanitarian laws.
The killing, injuring, abducting and imprisonment of Palestinian children by the Israeli occupation forces and Israeli settlers is a policy seen my many observers as targeting the future, since they believe that targeting Palestinian children is targeting the Palestinian future.

Israeli minister urges attack on Gaza
An Israeli minister has called for a major military offensive against the Gaza Strip, hours after the regime carried out an airstrike on the impoverished coastal sliver.
Israeli Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aaronovitch, whose remarks were aired by the Israeli public radio and the regime's Channel One TV, claimed that “the steady shower of missiles” from Gaza is not tolerable and Israel must retaliate with a “broad military action,” AFP reported on Tuesday.
The hawkish remarks of the Israeli official came amid a recent surge of violence, including airstrikes on Gaza and arrests of Palestinian civilians in the region.
On Tuesday, Israeli fighter jets pounded a tunnel under the enclave's border with Egypt.
The Israeli army frequently bombs the tunnel network in Gaza, claiming that Palestinian resistance fighters use the tunnels to store and smuggle in weapons.
Palestinians, however, dismiss such allegations, insisting that they were forced to resort to the underground tunnels to bring in basic living supplies to the impoverished Gazans because the territory has been sealed off to the outside world by a punishing Israeli blockade for over three years.
Earlier on Monday, Israeli military forces shot dead two Palestinians in the Qalandia refugee camp in the occupied West Bank after the two hurled stones at Israeli troops who were making arrests in the camp.
In another incident on Friday, at least 15 Palestinians were injured when Israeli soldiers were trying to disperse peaceful protesters demanding the reopening of the main entrance of Kafr Qaddum village in northern West Bank.
Israel also launched an all-out military offensive on the besieged Gaza Strip three days before the turn of 2009. The ensuing three-week war killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, including many women and children.

Israeli minister calls for launching large-scale war on Gaza
GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli minister of public security Yitzhak Aharonvic has called for a large-scale war on the Gaza Strip in response to the continued firing of rockets from the Strip on Israeli targets.
Aharonvic was speaking during a visit on Tuesday to Beersheba one day after a settler was wounded in the firing of a Palestinian rocket from Gaza on Askalan.
Shifting to another issue, the minister supported the local social demands for low housing prices and for curbing the soaring cost of living.

Israeli strikes target Gaza, injure 3
The Israeli military has targeted the Gaza Strip in a new round of aggression as fresh explosions were heard north and east of the besieged enclave.
The Israeli F-16 fighter jets launched three rocket attacks in the northeastern, eastern, and northern parts of the coastal sliver on Thursday, injuring at least three Palestinians and leaving ten others in a state of shock, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Israeli warplanes had struck three other targets in the east and west of the Gaza City earlier on the day.
The people of the blockaded enclave fear that Israel might step up its attacks on the Gaza Strip in the holy month of Ramadan as it has done since the beginning of the siege in 2007.
Also on Thursday, Israeli military aircrafts destroyed two tunnels running under the coastal sliver's border with Egypt.
Many analysts believe that Israel needs no excuse to attack Gaza as the international media attention has been taken away from the strip and directed toward the Islamic awakening taking place in Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, and Egypt.
Israel launched an all-out military offensive on the Gaza Strip three days before the turn of 2009. The three-week war killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, most of them civilians, including many women and children.

Fresh Israeli strike on Gaza injures 1
The Israeli military has once again targeted the Gaza Strip with a fresh airstrike and artillery shelling, wounding at least one Palestinian.
An Israeli drone fired a missile at a group of Palestinians north of Gaza Strip in the late hours of Thursday, followed shortly by artillery shells landing in the area, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Medical sources say at least one Palestinian has been injured as a result of the attacks, which have caused panic among the residents, especially children.
The new attack comes shortly after the Israeli military aircraft launched three rocket attacks in different parts of the besieged enclave, wounding at least three Palestinians and leaving ten others in a state of shock.
Earlier on the day, Israeli warplanes had struck three other targets in the east and west of the Gaza City.
Israel has recently escalated its attacks on the impoverished coastal sliver, which analysts believe is because Tel Aviv wants to deflect attention from its internal socio-political crisis as well as the Palestinian bid for statehood in the United Nations.

Report: 2 injured as Israeli air strikes target Gaza City
GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Two Palestinians from an armed group were injured in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City on Thursday as Israeli air strikes hit the coastal enclave.
Local witnesses told Ma'an that a large explosion was heard in the Jabal Al-Rayes neighborhood east of Gaza City.
The Israeli army said in a statement that the strikes had targeted the "launch site of a grad rocket fired at Israel."
"A short while ago, a Grad rocket was fired from the northern Gaza Strip at the communities of the Hevel Lakhish Regional Council," an Israeli army statement said, with no injuries reported.
The latest air strike is the second to target the Gaza Strip on Thursday after Israeli warplanes launched two attacks Thursday morning on the bases of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military branch of Hamas, to the east and west of Gaza City.
The airstrikes on Thursday come amid recent escalations along the border as Israeli warplanes struck two targets Tuesday in the northern and southern parts of the coastal enclave. No injuries were reported.
The past month has seen an increase in rockets and other projectiles fired at Israel from Gaza after several months of calm following a flare-up in April when an anti-tank missile hit an Israeli school bus, killing a teenager.
Israel responded to that attack with a series of air strikes that killed at least 19 Palestinians in the deadliest violence since Israel's devastating 22-day assault on Gaza in December 2008-January 2009.
Israel has imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip since Hamas took control of the enclave in 2007. Rights agencies have condemned the blockade as a form of collective punishment.

Israeli air raids injure two children in Gaza
GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli warplanes blasted three targets in the Gaza Strip at dawn Thursday wounding two children and causing big damage, local and security sources told the PIC reporter.
They said that Israeli F16s bombed two training camps for the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, in Gaza city, inflicting big damage to both camps and to nearby buildings.
They said that two children were injured from flying glass in the nearby buildings that were damaged in the raid.
In Rafah, the Israeli warplanes shelled a tunnel completely destroying it and starting a fire, which was put out by the fire brigades.
The Palestinian government in Gaza issued a statement at conclusion of its meeting on Wednesday condemning the repeated Israeli attacks on civilian targets in Gaza.
It charged that such attacks confirmed the “terrorist” mentality of the Israeli leaders.

Israel: Airstrikes targeted military sites and tunnel
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli airstrikes on Gaza early Thursday targeted two military sites in the north and a tunnel in the south, the army said and added that the attacks were in response to rocket fire.
"These sites were targeted in response to the rockets fired from Gaza at Israel's southern communities over the past few days," the military said in a statement. Two Grad rockets struck Israel on Wednesday, it said.
Israel will "respond with determination to any attempt to use terror against the State of Israel. The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for any terrorist activity" in Gaza, it added.

Israeli warplanes bombard Gaza City
Israeli warplanes have once again bombarded the Gaza Strip in line with Tel Aviv's policy of targeting the enclave with overnight strikes, witnesses say.
The fighter jets attacked several targets in Gaza City early Thursday, Xinhua reported.
The Israeli military frequently bombs the Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes.
However, disproportionate force is always used, in violation of international law, and civilians are often killed or injured.
Israel launched an all-out war on the Gaza Strip three days before the turn of 2009. The three-week war killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, including many women and children.
Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, a situation which has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

Witnesses: Airstrikes target Gaza City
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli aircraft fired on Gaza City early Thursday, witnesses said.
Two air raids targeted military sites including one belonging to Hamas' Al-Qassam Brigades, a Ma'an correspondent said.
There were no immediate reports of injury or damage following the attacks.
An Israeli army spokeswoman did not return a call seeking comment but the reports from Gaza came soon after Israel's army said two Grad rockets landed in Israeli territory without causing injury.
One rocket landed in Kiryat Gat, near Tel Aviv, a police official said.
The airstrikes were the first since Tuesday, when Israeli warplanes struck two targets in the northern and southern parts of the enclave. No injuries were reported.
The army said those attacks were in response to rocket fire that injured one person.
"The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip," an army statement said Tuesday.
Israel has imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip since Hamas took control of the enclave in 2007. Rights agencies have condemned the blockade as a form of collective punishment.

3 Palestinians, including a child wounded in Israeli occupation airstrikes
GAZA, (PIC)-- Three Palestinians, including a child, were wounded in one of five airstrikes carried out by the Israeli occupation airforce at dawn Friday against various targets in the Gaza Strip.
Adham Abu Selmeyyah, spokesman for the emergency services in Gaza said in a statement on Friday morning that three Palestinians, including a child were wounded when an Israeli occupation airstrike targeted an open area in Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip.
He added that the three were taken to the Kamal Adwan hospital and that two of them lost lower limbs.
The Israeli occupation airforce carried out 4 other airstrikes against targets in the Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in the central and southern Gaza Strip, but no casualties were reported.
Local sources told PIC correspondent that occupation aircraft fired two rockets at a chicken farm to the east of Deir al-Balah before targeting resistance training grounds to the west of the town.
Meanwhile, sources in Khan Younis said that occupation aircraft targeted a container used as mobile accommodation to the west of Asda’a Media City.
The sources added that occupation tanks fired artillery shells at agricultural fields to the east of Qara town, in Khan Younis district.
Abu Selmeyyah said in the statement that the airstrikes on Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah did not result in human casualties, adding that the air raids cause a lot of distress to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.

Following rocket, IDF bombs Gaza targets
Qassam hit
Three tunnels, two additional targets in central and southern Strip attacked overnight after Qassam hits Kiryat Gat area. Palestinians say one of targets was Hamas military wing's training camp.
Israel Air Force aircraft attacked three tunnels and two additional targets in the southern and central Gaza Strip on Thursday night.
The Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson's Office said all targets were hit and all IAF planes returned safely to their base.
The strike was carried out after an improved Qassam rocket was fired from the northern Gaza Strip to the Kiryat Gat area. The rocket hit an open area within the Lakhish Regional Council. One woman suffered from shock and was rushed to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.
Israeli hit
Palestinian sources in Gaza said there were no injuries in the attacks. According to the same sources, one of the strike's targets was a training camp of Hamas' military wing – the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades – near Gaza City.
Several Qassam and Grad rockets have been fired from Gaza in recent days, and t6he IDF responded with airstrikes against different targets in the Strip.
On Wednesday, another rocket exploded in the Kiryat Gat area. A resident of one of the moshavim in the area was hurt as he stumbled while running to a fortified area.
A week earlier, a Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip exploded near a Bedouin tent in the south, moderately wounding 55-year-old Fatma Saria. The IDF struck targets in the Gaza Strip in response to the attacks.

Second night of Israeli strikes on Gaza after rocket fire
Israel has carried out a second night of air strikes against targets in the Gaza Strip.
Palestinians say one of the targets was a training facility for the military wing of Hamas, and smuggling tunnels along the Egypt border were hit.
Medical sources say five people were injured in the attacks.
The Israeli strikes took place hours after Palestinian militants fired rockets at an Israeli town situated 30km from the Gaza-Israel border.
Recent weeks have seen an increase in mortar and rocket fire from Gaza after months of relative calm.
Israeli army sources say that since Wednesday Grad rockets were fired near the towns of Kiryat Gat, Ashkelon and Lachish. They landed in open areas and no-one was hurt.
However on Monday, an Israeli Bedouin woman was lightly wounded by shrapnel when a rocket fired from Gaza exploded near Ashkelon.
The last major escalation of violence in and around Gaza followed an incident in April when an Israeli school bus was hit by a missile fired from the Palestinian territory. An Israeli teenager later died from his injuries.
Israel responded to that attack with a series of air strikes that killed at least 19 Palestinians. It was the deadliest violence since Israel's 22-day devastating assault on Gaza between December 2008 and January 2009.
Since then the resumption of an uneasy and informal truce has kept attacks by both sides to a minimum.
Hamas blamed
A small Salafist militant group, which did not agree to a ceasefire, has claimed responsibility for firing the latest rockets. Hamas, which governs Gaza, is said to have reined in most such groups.
Israel says it holds Hamas responsible for all attacks coming out of the Palestinian territory, even if other militant groups carry them out.
Reports said that the latest air strikes hit a training facility for al-Qassem Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.
A chicken farm near Deir al-Balah in central Gaza was also targeted as well as tunnels near the southern town of Rafah.
The Israelis charge that Grad rockets are smuggled into Gaza through tunnels under the border with Egypt along with other contraband.
Grad rockets have a longer range than the homemade rockets Gaza militants often fire at southern Israel.

Israeli air strikes injure 5 in Gaza
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli military air strikes injured five people across the Gaza Strip overnight on Thursday.
Medics told Ma'an that three people were seriously injured in an air strike on the northern city of Beit Lahiya.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said the military targeted the launch site of a rocket in northern Gaza around 10 p.m. Thursday.
Shortly after, air strikes hit central and southern Gaza, and witnesses told Ma'an two Palestinians from the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City were injured.
The army spokeswoman said that forces targeted "three tunnels in central Gaza Strip and a terror activity site, as well as a terror activity site in the southern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed."
The attacks were "a response to four rockets fired into Israel in the past week," she said.
A rocket which landed on Thursday in the Hevel Lakhish Regional Council, near northern Gaza, did not cause any injuries, but two people were treated for shock, Israeli army radio reported.
Early Thursday morning, two air raids targeted military sites including one belonging to Hamas' Al-Qassam Brigades, a Ma'an correspondent said. There were no reports of injury or damage following the attacks.
The four airstrikes on Thursday come amid recent escalations along the border as Israeli warplanes struck two targets Tuesday in the northern and southern parts of the coastal enclave.

Report: Lebanese soldier shot on Israel border
TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- The Israeli army shot a Lebanese soldier during an exchange of gunfire early Monday on the border between the two countries, Israeli media said.
Israel's Haaretz newspaper said soldiers traded fire in the Mount Dov region on the border.
Initial reports said a Lebanese soldier died in the exchange, the first since Israel's army opened fire and killed 10 Lebanese nationals during protests in May.

Lebanese army, IDF exchange fire
Shooting incident on northern border: IDF sources say troops returned fire after being shot at by Lebanese forces, who believed troops had crossed border. Lebanese news agencies report one soldier injured.
Lebanese soldiers opened fire on IDF soldiers patrolling the northern border Monday near the northern village of Maayan Baruch, military sources said.
No one was injured on the Israeli side, but Lebanese news agencies reported that a Lebanese soldier was injured when the troops returned fire.
A preliminary investigation shows that Lebanese forces opened fire because they thought the IDF soldiers had crossed the border.
But IDF sources are insisting that the Israeli troops remained on their side. They say a Paratroopers force was on vehicular patrol when suddenly they were fired upon, and returned fire with their rifles.
Immediately afterwards the army filed a complaint with UNIFIL, saying the force was shot at without cause. The sources say the incident ended without any intent to escalate violence or dwell on the events.
Lebanese news agencies are claiming that the IDF force opened fire on a military base on the eastern side of the border. They say the exchanges of fire lasted a few minutes.
A Lebanese radio station reported the exchanges occurred around 7 am. It added that UNIFIL soldiers are on the scene.
The incident was the first of its kind on the relatively calm front since Regiment Commander Dov Harari was killed on August 3, 2010. After the incident the Lebanese army announced it would be more careful and attempt to refrain from causing additional incidents.

Israel launches airstrike on south Gaza
The Israeli air force has launched an airstrike on the southern Gaza Strip, destroying a tunnel under the enclave's border with Egypt.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Israeli F-16 warplanes fired two missiles at the target, Xinhua reported, citing witnesses.
No deaths or injuries have been reported so far.
Although the Israeli military officially withdrew from Gaza in 2005, they still frequently bomb the tunnel network, saying Palestinian resistance fighters use the tunnels for storing and smuggling weapons.
But the Palestinians dismiss the allegations, arguing they have resorted to the underground tunnels to bring basic needs to the impoverished Gazans because the territory has been sealed by an Israeli blockade for over four years.

Israeli air strikes hit targets in the Gaza Strip
GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Israeli warplanes struck two targets in the northern and the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning, with no casualties reported.
Israeli air crafts fired at a target in Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip causing material damage but no human casualties, medical sources told Ma'an's correspondent.
Israeli jets also fired missiles at a smuggling tunnel in the Al Brazil neighborhood of Rafah in the southern Gaza, causing material damage only.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said "the sites were targeted in response to the rocket fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel's southern communities during the previous day, moderately injuring a woman."
"The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip," the statement added.
Israel has imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip since Hamas took control of the enclave in 2007.
Rights agencies have repeatedly condemned the blockade as a form of collective punishment of Gaza's 1.6 million residents.

Israeli troops kill 2 Palestinians in WB
Two Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the Qalandia refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian officials say.
The Palestinian medics and security officials said on Monday that 23-year-old Mortesen Adwan and Ali Halifa, 22, were killed overnight, AFP reported.
The shooting took place after Palestinians apparently threw stones at Israeli troops that were making arrests in the camp on the road from Ramallah to East al-Quds (Jerusalem).
The victims were taken to the Ramallah hospital at dawn. One of them was shot in the head and was martyred immediately. The second, who was shot in the abdomen, was martyred shortly afterwards, Palestinian sources said.
On Friday, Israeli soldiers injured fifteen Palestinians in an attempt to disperse peaceful protesters demanding the reopening of the main entrance of Kafr Qaddum village in northern West Bank.
Claiming the entire al-Quds as its "eternal and indivisible" capital, Israel annexed the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967. However, the annexation has never been recognized by the international community.
Israel also launched an all-out military offensive on the besieged Gaza Strip three days before the turn of 2009. The ensuing three-week war killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, including many women and children.
