Hamas: The absence of int'l justice caused Jerusalem killing
GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum stated that the absence of international justice and the American bias were the reasons that encouraged Israeli troops to kill a Palestinian young man on Sunday morning in occupied Jerusalem.
In a statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Sunday, spokesman Barhoum added Israel exploited the absence of international justice, and the Arab and Islamic silence to commit further crimes against the Palestinian people.
The spokesman stressed the need for resisting the Israeli occupation in order to protect Jerusalem, the Islamic holy sites, and the Palestinian people, and called on the Palestinian Authority to stop its repressive acts against the resistance fighters and let them assume their responsibility for defending the homeland.
The young man is called Izzuddin Kawazba, a worker from the West Bank city of Al-Khalil and a father of six, and was killed after an Israeli soldier in Jerusalem shot him for allegedly trying to sneak into the 1948 occupied lands.
The Israeli soldier who shot him claimed Kawazba tried to steal his weapon and assault him during a chase, when a bullet inadvertently shot off and killed the victim instantly.
For her part, Hamas MP in Al-Khalil Samira Al-Halaika denounced the "criminal" incident, calling on human rights groups to act seriously to expose the inhuman practices exercised by the Israeli occupation authority against Palestinian workers.
She asked for international protection for those laborers, who are drived by their need to seek jobs in the 1948 occupied land, and lashed out at the PA for remaining silent vis-a-vis this incident and for not striving to secure a "dignified life" and work opportunities for those workers

2 Qassams fired towards Negev; no injuries
After five days of calm, Palestinian terrorists renew rocket attacks on Israel; Eshkol Regional Council head: Hamas only speaks language of rockets.
Palestinian terrorists in northern Gaza fired two Qassams towards Israeli territory Wednesday afternoon. There were no reports of injury or damage.
One of the rockets landed in an open area in the Negev's Eshkol Regional Council, while the other landed near the security fence separating Israel and Gaza. The "Color Red" siren was not heard before either explosion.
Eshkol Regional Council head Haim Yalin linked the attacks to the recently launched peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. "It is obvious that if the peace talks continue and Hamas finds itself with its back against the wall, the attacks will intensify."
"The only speak the language of rockets," he added.
On Friday a Qassam landed in an open area in the western Negev, causing no injuries or damage.
A little over a week ago the IDF attacked a group of Palestinian terrorists as they were preparing to launch rockets from central Gaza towards the Negev region. Three gunmen belonging to Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades were killed in the attack.

Security cabinet discusses readiness as Kassams hit South
None hurt in latest attacks; interior minister, justice minister will be instructed to take measures for home-owners to reinforce buildings against missiles.
The security cabinet on Wednesday gathered to discuss strengthening the home front's readiness for various emergency scenarios.
Interior Minister Eli Yishai and Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman will be instructed to take the necessary measures for apartment owners to reinforce their buildings against missile attacks and earthquakes.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that home front security was yet another example of "bureaucratic obstacles" faced by Israel
"Reinforcing homes is a cogent interest and in the current situation, there is a tangible impediment to the ability to provide citizens with better protection," he said. "Therefore, the Security Cabinet decision must be implemented forthwith."
The meeting was held as two Kassam rockets exploded near the Gaza border on Wednesday, though the attacks caused no casualties or damage.
One exploded in an open field near a kibbutz in the Eshkol region, and another landed on the Palestinian side of the Gaza border fence.

PRC wing urges Hamas not to threaten PA
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Popular Resistance Committee's military wing on Thursday urged Hamas' armed wing to review its statement that it would target Palestinian Authority officials.
Hamas' military wing the Al-Qassam Brigades issued a statement Wednesday on behalf of 12 military groups in Gaza threatening to target PA officials in response to the wave of arrests of Hamas affiliates in the West Bank.
"Over the past period, we have preferred to give reconciliation efforts all the time needed, however, we hereby say we will not remain silent for long," the statement said, adding that "Nobody can blame us if we go after leaders of the Fatah-run authority everywhere, and treat them equally."
PRC military wing the An-Nasser Salah Ad-Din Brigades responded to the statement Thursday, urging the group to review its stance which it said would broaden the Palestinian internal division. The PRC wing said its arms were directed "only to the enemy," and that it would never direct arms towards any of the Palestinian people.
The An-Nasser Salah Ad-Din Brigades called for Palestinian factions to unite in resistance.
The Al-Qassam Brigades' threat came as Fatah and Hamas were scheduled to meet over the final point stalling the ratification of an Egyptian-backed unity deal, poised to end inter-factional rivalry.

Hamas wing threatens PA leadership
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Hamas' military wing on Wednesday threatened to target Palestinian Authority officials "if PA security forces continue to detain and sue resistance activists in the West Bank."
Al-Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Ubayda read a statement on behalf of 12 military groups in the Gaza Strip saying "we are fed up with the PA security's behavior in the West Bank. Over the past period, we have preferred to give reconciliation efforts all the time needed, however, we hereby say we will not remain silent for long."
Abu Ubayda said PA forces had "gone to the extremes, forcing us to end our silence," adding that ongoing efforts to secure a unity deal with Fatah "were not enough to prevent chasing and detaining Mujaheddin. Nobody can blame us if we go after leaders of the Fatah-run authority everywhere, and treat them equally."
The spokesman said hundreds of armed militia affiliates had been detained by PA security forces in the West Bank, and Islamic Jihad leader Khader Adnan began a hunger strike in detention. "Prisoners are being tortured harshly in jail," he added.
Since Tuesday, the Islamist movement has accused the PA of detaining 21 party supporters across the West Bank and summoning several others, shortly after three Hamas affiliates were charged by a military court of causing the death of three PA security officers in Qalqiliya in 2009.
The party responded to the convictions by accusing the PA of "cooperating with Israel," after the three were also indicted on charges of conspiring against the PA.
The threat comes as Fatah and Hamas are scheduled to meet over the final point stalling the ratification of an Egyptian-backed unity deal, poised to end inter-factional rivalry.
On Wednesday, Fatah spokesman Ahmad Asaf accused Hamas leaders of attempting to sabotage unity talks by issuing statements from the Strip by using "inciting rhetoric as a distraction to its real, undeclared goal of rejecting conciliation, continue with division and restoring their rule on Gaza to keep their personal privileges."

2 militants dead in Israeli raid in West Bank
Nashaath al-Karmi aged 33
JERUSALEM Israeli troops killed two senior Hamas militants in an early-morning raid in the West Bank city of Hebron on Friday, the Israeli military and Hamas officials said, raising tensions as peace talks remain stuck over Israeli settlements.
The two gunmen were wanted in connection with the killing of four Israelis near Hebron on Aug. 31, just as new Israeli-Palestinian peace talks were getting under way, the Israeli military said. Media aligned with Hamas in the Gaza Strip also said the men were behind the attack.
Israeli soldiers with jeeps and an armored bulldozer surrounded a house in Hebron before dawn. The military said the men rebuffed calls to surrender and began shooting at the Israeli troops outside. The soldiers then used force, killing both militants, the military said.
The gunfire left the walls pocked with bullet holes, and an AP photographer on the scene saw one body on the street outside.
Palestinian and Israeli security forces had been looking for the Hamas men since the four Israelis from a nearby settlement were shot while driving on a road near Hebron, Palestinian security officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because that information was not officially made public.
Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, issued a statement threatening to avenge the deaths.
A Hamas official in the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by the militant group, confirmed that both of the men killed were senior members of the group's armed wing. He spoke on condition of anonymity because the Islamic organization had yet to officially identify the dead men.
The official blamed the Western-backed Palestinian government led by President Mahmoud Abbas, which wields limited power in the West Bank, for enabling the raid by cooperating with Israel and for holding new peace talks.
Those negotiations, which began early last month, are currently deadlocked over the end of a temporary slowdown of Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rebuffed pressure from the Palestinians, the U.S. and the international community to extend the building restrictions. The Palestinians have threatened to quit the talks if there is no extension.
Arab foreign ministers are set to discuss the talks at a meeting in Sirte, Libya, on Friday, and their position on the matter is expected to influence Abbas' decision about whether to continue the negotiations even without a slowdown extension.
Abbas and Israel both see Hamas as an enemy and have cooperated in cracking down on the group's members in the West Bank. Hamas has threatened to use violence to derail the new negotiations, and the resumption of direct talks between Abbas and the Israeli government has been accompanied by an uptick in violence.

Hamas swears revenge for IDF attack that killed two members
Terrorists killed by IDF were previously imprisoned in Israel; Hamas spokesman derides Palestinian Authority and peace talks; Barak lauds IDF over successful operation.
Hamas's military-wing on Friday threatened revenge for the IDF's attack in Hebron that killed a senior Hamas operative an another Hamas activist in the city responsible for a recent deadly terror attack against Israelis.
"This cowardly act calls for a response in an appropriate manner, place and time," said an Izzadine al-Kassam Brigades spokesman.
The senior Hamas man killed was Nashaath al-Karmi aged 33 and orginally from the West Bank city of Tulkarm. Karm was freed from an Israeli prison in August 2009 where he was imprisoned for terror-related activities and quickly returned to working for Izzadine al-Kassam Brigades. The second Palestinian killed, Mamoun Natsha, 24, was a low-level Hamas activist from Hebron who had been imprisoned in Israel for several months in 2008.
Hamas's leadership took the opportunity of Friday's attack to disparage the potential for successful peace talks.
"The crime this morning [in Hebron] is a slape in the face for all those who are still betting on their relations with the occupation and continue negotiations with it," said Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida.
Also on Friday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak lauded the IDF and security forces for the successful operation in Hebron Friday morning.
"The actions in Hebron are a rapid response to the murder of four Israelis in August of this year near Kiryat Arba. The IDF and security forces will continue to work everywhere with uncompromising determination against terror organizations to ensure continued peace in Judea and Samaria," said Barak.

Netanyahu: Terrorists in Gaza have anti-aircraft missiles
Speaking at a Likud meeting, PM expresses concern over weapons in the Strip "that can take down an aircraft en route to Ben Gurion airport"; calls settlement building an "artificial obstacle."
Speaking at a Likud meeting Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu expressed concern that aircraft flying near the Gaza Strip may be exposed to anti-aircraft systems.
"Today we are experiencing difficulty flying near the Gaza Strip since they have in their possession anti-aircraft missiles," explained Netanyahu. "Imagine that there are no security arrangements, and there will be missiles that can take down an aircraft that is en route to Ben Gurion airport."
"I heard Abu Mazen's interview yesterday," Netanyahu said in reaction to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's interview to Channel 1 on Sunday. "I would rather talk to him face to face. The interview took place seven minutes from here. A direct conversation can advance the resolution to the conflict."
Netanyahu added that, "the discussion on new [settlement] building is only an artificial obstacle." "Even the Palestinians say that the building is insignificant and barely has an effect on a final-status map," explained the prime minister. "I say it has no impact at all."
Netanyahu continued to say that, "If the Palestinians want to continue the conflict, they can find a way. But if they want to solve it, I have ways of doing it. The security problems are real, so the solutions must be real and not just on paper."
Netanyahu explained that in the framework of negotiations, several subjects must be discussed: Recognition of Israel, rockets being launched from Gaza, the settlements, Jerusalem and the water supply must be addressed in talks with the Palestinians.
"What matters is not the length of the talks, but whether the Palestinians want to solve the conflict," said Netanyahu. "The Palestinians must decide if they want to solve problems. If there is willingness to solve the dispute, it will be solved, but if not, it will not be."
"The Palestinians must compromise with the existence of Israel living in peace with it its neighbors. This would be good for us and for them."

Netanyahu: Palestinians may target airport
Prime minister warns security arrangements key to any peace deal with Palestinians. 'Imagine if missiles could take down planes on way to airport,' he says, adding that settlement construction is 'artificial barrier'
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Likud Party members Monday he feared an agreement with the Palestinians that did not include adequate security arrangements.
"It's not only a matter of rockets aimed at city centers. Today we are trying not to fly near Gaza because they have anti-aircraft missiles there. Imagine if we did not have security arrangements, and such missiles could take down planes on their way to Ben Gurion International Airport. We need to find long-term solutions," he said.
Netanyahu also commented on an interview Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas gave to Channel 1. "This talk was held seven minutes away. I must say I would prefer to hold a direct talk with him, one that could promote an agreement. In order to promote an agreement we must overcome artificial barriers," he said.
"The debate on construction is simply an artificial barrier. The construction takes up a very small percentage of the territory, and doesn't affect the settlement map. It has no real effect on the map of a possible arrangement," the PM said.
But before discussing settlements, he said, Palestinian recognition of Israel as a Jewish state must be discussed. "Not just a statement that they are willing to recognize this at the end of the conflict, but recognition of Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people," he said.
Other important issues, according to Netanyahu, are water and Jerusalem.
"What matters is not the time it takes to conduct the talks, but whether there is willingness to resolve the conflict. If there is willingness, the conflict will be resolved I hope the Palestinians make the right choice, because it will be good for us and good for them," he said.

Radwan: Zionist mentality doesn't tolerate calm
GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas leader Ismail Radwan has said that Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu's claims that Gaza had obtained anti-aircraft missiles, which were impeding flights of his air force, were meant to justify a new war on Gaza.
Radwan told the PIC on Monday evening that Netanyahu's statement reflects the Zionist mentality that lives on violence, murder, and terrorism and could not tolerate the relevant calm prevailing on the borders with Gaza.
"Let the occupation know that targeting Gaza would not be an outing (for the Israeli army), and that the Palestinian people have the full right to defend themselves", he elaborated.
In an earlier statement, an Israeli commander said that the latest war on Gaza had failed in achieving its goals, as it did not solve the security problem in the region after Hamas took over control of the coastal enclave.
Yoav Galant, the commander of the southern area in the Israeli army, said on Sunday that the operation "Cast Lead" did not solve the problem in the south.
He said that the war on Gaza was three weeks of firing and incessant use of force.

Gaza militia says fighters fired mortars at Israeli force
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A military wing in Gaza said its fighters fired two mortar shells toward an Israeli force in the southern Gaza Strip late Tuesday, a statement read.
The Jihad Jibreel Brigades, affiliated the Popular Front for the Liberate of Palestine - General Command, claimed responsibility for the fire but did not report any injuries.
A spokesman for Israel's army said he was not familiar with the incident.
Meanwhile, Israeli military vehicles crossed into the central Gaza Strip late Tuesday, onlookers said. Locals said four tanks and two bulldozers entered Al-Qarara village near Khan Younis.
There were reports of heavy fire during the reported incursion, but none of injuries or damage.
The military conducts regular searches in the area, residents say.
An Israeli military spokesman said no vehicles crossed into that area Tuesday. Soldiers nearby heard gunfire, but they did not respond to it, he said.

Israel threatens fierce response to rockets fired from Gaza
GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened his country would lead an attack against Hamas if rockets fired at Israeli settlements from the Gaza Strip’s border continued.
Netanyahu said during a tour of Ashkelon and Sderot settlement on Tuesday: “We have directed strikes against Hamas, including its leaders. This policy will continue, and we advise Hamas and all other ‘terrorist’ factions not to test our determination to severely respond over the attacks against Israel, Ashkelon, and the south.”
Speaking on the recent rounds of negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, Netanyahu said that Palestinian de facto president Mahmoud Abbas went into the talks while knowing there would be no pre-conditions and that Israel had refused to extend the settlement freeze.
He said the PA did not agree to enter peace talks for the first nine months of the freeze, but decided to begin only near its due date of expiry.
The Israeli premier also stated that he demands that Abbas unambiguously pronounces that he recognizes Israel as “a state for the Jewish people”, as a key point in the negotiations.
Israeli radio quoted Netanyahu during a speech he gave the previous night at a conference of Jewish organization heads in the U.S.: “Israel will not renounce the demand that Palestinians should recognize its Jewish identity. Abbas cannot evade the issue or look for phrasing which goes around the topic. He must clearly say that he recognizes Israel as a state for the Jewish people.”

Samir Kuntar pushes for more kidnapping
Convicted terrorist tells Hamas conference more IDF troops needed to haggle for Palestinian prisoners.
Samir Kuntar called Saturday on Palestinian terror organizations to kidnap more Israeli soldiers.
The Lebanese terrorist, who was released from Israeli prison in exchange for the bodies of IDF soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, gave a satellite-transmitted speech to a conference supporting Palestinian prisoners, which took place in the Gaza Strip.
Kuntar spoke after Hamas's prime minister in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, stressed that he would continue efforts to release prisoners in Israeli jails.
"I call on the resistance organizations to kidnap more Israeli soldiers and not to make do with just one, because the number of prisoners is large," Kuntar said.
The convicted terrorist insisted that the end justified all means. "We will never feel entirely free unless we bring on the release of all prisoners. The persistence of resistance organizations in the Gilad Shalit affair is the best proof of the responsibility we feel towards the issue of prisoners," he said.
Haniyeh, on his end, said Israel was holding 8,000 Palestinian prisoners as part of a Zionist effort to get rid of the Palestinian people.
He also criticized the Palestinian Authority, saying that while some were working to release the prisoners it insisted on holding 650 such political prisoners in its own jails as part of its illicit cooperation with Israel.
Haniyeh denied that the Hamas government was also holding political prisoners, or those charged with attempting to carry out terror attacks.
The conference focused on the legal aspects of Israel's imprisonment of Palestinians, as well as with the alleged torture they undergo at the state's hands. A former prisoner detained at Hadarim Prison related a tale of suffering and woe to those present.
The larger context of the conference was the rift between Hamas and Fatah. The latter claims Hamas has no real intention to arrive at a truce, after recently uncovering an arms cache near Ramallah.

Gaza: Brigade fires mortar shells at Israeli force
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility Sunday for firing four mortar shells toward an Israeli force in Al-Qarara, south of Gaza City, a statement read.
The brigades said the mortar shelling targeted a force penetrating the Abu Thahir area east of Al-Qarara and assured of "their right to resist any Israeli aggression against the Palestinians and to continue the jihad until the Palestinian territories are liberated."
An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed the fire and said one of the shells landed in Israeli territory, with no reports of damage or injury.
