'US sets stage for war against Iran'
The recent allegations made by the United States against Iran have set the stage for a war against the Islamic Republic, an American analyst says.
"With the typical backdrop of alarmist propaganda in place, the stage is now set for a new war, this time with Iran," Robert Parry said in an article on Global Research.
"There is now a cascading of allegations regarding Iran, as there was with Iraq, with the momentum rushing toward war," he added.
The analyst noted that "tougher and tougher Western sanctions against Iran have pushed the various sides closer to war… as happened with Iraq -- when harsher economic sanctions merged with a US troop build-up."
Warning of "devastating consequences" of a "prospective war with Iran," Parry also said Washington's allegation that Iran is on pace to build a nuclear bomb resembles accusations that Iraq possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).
In 2003, the US invaded Iraq under the pretext that former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein possessed the Weapons of Mass Destruction. However, it was later revealed that not only Iraq was not in possession of WMDs but also that US and UK leaders were aware the non-existence of such weapons.
The US analyst blasted the recent report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about Iran, saying that the report "was widely accepted as gospel truth without any discussion of whether the IAEA is an unbiased and reliable source."
Parry said the documentary evidence showed that IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano was installed with the support of the United States and that he privately indicated to US and Israeli officials that he would help advance their goals regarding Iran.
In November, the IAEA accused Iran of conducting activities related to developing nuclear weapons before 2003, adding that these activities “may still be ongoing.”
Iran, however, rejected the report as “unbalanced, unprofessional and prepared with political motivation and under political pressure mostly from the United States.”
Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly threatened Tehran with the "option" of a military strike, based on their allegation that Iran's nuclear program may include a covert military aspect.
Iran insists that it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA.

Israeli Political Source: Israel Would Response “Strictly” on Any Upcoming Israeli Soldiers’ Kidnap
On Friday, Israeli official website said that an Israeli political source in Jerusalem, said that Israel would response “strictly” to any upcoming kidnap for any soldier in the Israeli army, unlike what happened to Gil’at Shalit.
The source also said that the eight-minister forum has recently decided that Israel would start a war with the kidnappers, saying that the game rules have changed.
The source also warned from the consequences that the kidnappers would face, pointing to the Islamic movement Hamas that controls Gaza Strip.
The source also said that the Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, would receive the report of the Israeli former judge, Meir Shamgar, about the standards that must be followed in any possible deals, in relation to, prisoners swap.

CIA, Mossad made up fairytale al-Qaeda
Wayne Madsen
An American investigative journalist says the al-Qaeda is a fairytale terrorist group made up by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Israeli spy agency, Mossad.
"In the US, the Zionist propagandists are spinning the fanciful tale that Iran was involved with "al-Qaeda," the fairy tale organization concocted by Mossad and the CIA, in carrying out the 9/11 attacks," Wayne Madsen wrote in an article published in Global Research.
Madsen was referring to the latest US allegation that Iran was involved in the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington.
On December 22, a US federal judge in Manhattan alleged that Iran, together with the Taliban and al-Qaeda, had been involved in the 9/11 attacks.
The court, meanwhile, withdrew Saudi Arabia's name from the 10-year-old case, even though 15 of the 19 attackers were Saudi nationals.
Tehran has condemned Washington's allegations as amateurish and baseless scenarios.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that the US is jeopardizing international peace and security by repeating such groundless claims.
He added that the US role in founding the al-Qaeda and supporting it is common knowledge.
The American journalist concluded that Iran is now facing an undeclared war being waged by the West and Israel.
"It is a war of computer viruses like the Israeli-developed Stuxnet, propaganda, support for armed insurgents, covert assassinations and sabotage, and political pressure against Iran's friends around the world. This softening up of Iran is expected by the West to make a final military assault on the country a cake walk. "

Palestinian medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported that one Palestinian was killed and eleven others were wounded in two Israeli Air Strikes targeting Gaza City in one hour.
The sources stated that eight Palestinians were wounded, two seriously, when the army fired missiles at a Palestinian Jeep driving near a gas station in Al Jala’ neighborhood in Gaza City.
One Palestinian was killed and three others were wounded in an earlier air strike targeting a Palestinian driving a motorcycle in Jabalia, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army claimed that the attack targeted fighters who fired shells at Israeli areas adjacent to the Gaza Strip.
In a separate attack, soldiers fired rounds of live ammunition at homes and property east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip; no damages or injuries were reported.
December 27, marks the third anniversary of the three-week Israeli war on the Gaza Strip in which more than 1419 Palestinians were killed and thousands were wounded. Among the killed were 412 children and 111 women, and approximately 280 medics and members of the civil defense.

Rocket hits south following Gaza strikes
(0:46) Israel says it killed Islamist militant in Gaza strike 3 x viewed
Qassam fired from Strip lands in western Negev but does not explode; attack comes several hours after two IAF strikes leave at least one "terrorist" dead, others injured.
Palestinians in northern Gaza fired a Qassam rocket towards Israel's western Negev region Wednesday morning, several hours after two IAF strikes in the Hamas-ruled territory left one terrorist dead and at least 10 others injured.
The "color red" alert system was activated in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, but the rocket did not explode, and there were no reports of injury or damage.
Palestinians sources in Gaza said the first IAF strike killed Abdulla Talbani, a member of Islamic Jihad's armed wing, the al-Quds Brigades. Two other people were wounded in the attack.
The second IAF strike, launched about two hours later, targeted a Global Jihad terror cell planning to execute a terror attack on the Israel-Egypt border. According to the Palestinians, the attack left eight people injured – two of them critically. However, the IDF said two Palestinians were killed.
The Maan news agency reported that a vehicle carrying the terror cell members was targeted by an Israeli aircraft as it was travelling in Gaza City.
The military said the terror cell included former Hamas operative Rami Daud Kufarneh, and Hazam Saadi al-Shuker, also a former Hamas operative.
Shortly after the attack a rocket was launched towards Israel, but it exploded on the Palestinian side of the security fence.
IDF sources told Ynet that the terror cell was part of an Islamic Jihad network operating from both Gaza and Egypt.
"The terrorists who had planned the border attack were well-known to Hamas. The Islamist group was aware of the plan to carry out an attack while taking advantage of the situation in the Sinai Peninsula," one of the sources said, adding, "Despite this, Hamas did not work to thwart the attack."
According to the source, Global Jihad and Salafist elements in Gaza and Sinai are continuing in their efforts to carry out terror attacks against Israeli targets. "Hamas can prevent these attacks, but it prefers not to confront them," said the IDF official.

Israel targets suspected militants in Gaza
Jerusalem (CNN) -- Israeli security forces launched a pair of airstrikes against suspected Palestinian militants Tuesday, killing at least one person and injuring eight others, Israeli military and Palestinian medical sources said.
The attacks were against terror cells in Gaza affiliated with the Global Jihad terror movement, Israel Defense Forces said in a statement. One of the cells intended to travel to the Israeli-Egyptian border in the Sinai to carry out an attack similar to one staged in August, according to the Israeli military.
"The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers, and will operate against anyone who uses terror against the State of Israel," the Israeli military said. "The Hamas terror organization is solely responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza strip."
During the August incident, seven Israelis were killed in an attack after militants infiltrated across the border with Egypt. When Israel responded, it mistakenly shelled a number of Egyptian security forces, killing five of them.
Israel issued a rare apology for the casualties.

RAMALLAH, (WAFA) – The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) condemned the Israeli navy attack on Olivia, an international boat to monitor human rights in Gaza waters, injuring an international activist, according to a PCHR statement on Thursday.
It also condemned the Israeli violations of international law and Palestinian fishermen’s rights, including the Fourth Geneva convention of 1949.

Israel shells northern Gaza
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- An Israeli tank fired on northern Gaza on Wednesday, without causing damage or injuries.
Forces launched an artillery shell which landed in an open area in the north of the coastal strip, a Ma'an reporter said.
An Israeli army spokesman said he was not familiar with the incident.
The blast followed two Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday evening, which killed one man and wounded ten others, as the coastal enclave marked the third anniversary of the Gaza war.
Israel launched a three week war on the Gaza Strip on Dec. 27, 2008.
Nearly 1,400 Palestinians were killed in the military assault, including over 300 children. The majority of those killed were civilians.

Israel 'will launch significant Gaza offensive sooner or later'
Israel Defence Forces chief of staff speaks on third anniversary of start of a major three-week Gaza assault
A new Israeli military offensive against Gaza will be launched "sooner or later" and will be "swift and painful", Israel's most senior military officer has warned.
Benny Gantz, the chief of staff of the Israel Defence Forces, was speaking on the third anniversary of the start of a major three-week assault on Gaza during which around 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed.
That offensive was "an excellent operation that achieved deterrence for Israel vis-a-vis Hamas", Gantz told Army Radio on Tuesday. He added there were signs that the deterrent effect was wearing thin.
"Sooner or later, there will be no escape from conducting a significant operation," he said. "The IDF knows how to operate in a determined, decisive and offensive manner against terrorists in the Gaza Strip."
Within hours of Gantz's comments, the Israeli military launched two airstrikes on targets in Gaza, killing one person and injuring around 10, according to local reports.
A spokesman for the IDF said direct hits on two "terrorist squads with global jihad associations" had been confirmed. According to security officials quoted by Israel Radio, one of the targets was a cell en route to Sinai with the intention of launching an attack on Israel from Egypt.
Since the end of the Gaza war in January 2009, Hamas has attempted to enforce a ceasefire among militant groups, although sporadic rocket fire has continued. Israel holds Hamas, as the de facto government, responsible for all rocket fire emanating from Gaza.
There have been suggestions in recent weeks that Hamas is ready to distance itself further from attacks on Israel as part of its reconciliation process with its rival faction Fatah.
"They have accepted popular [non-violent] resistance," senior Fatah official Mohammed Shtayyer said, adding that Hamas would stop "these fireworks" being launched.
However, Hamas officials have also said they reserve the right to self-defence and the prime minister, Ismail Haniyeh, pledged to continue "resistance" at a public rally this month.
Gantz's comments were meant "to keep [Hamas] on their toes", according to the Israeli analyst Yossi Alpher, who said: "He's letting us know that another operation is possible and it would be successful."
Alpher identified two constraining factors – moves towards Fatah-Hamas reconciliation "which may change the political nature of the Gaza regime", and Egypt. "In the past, we could assume that if we launched an operation in Gaza, [former president Hosni] Mubarak would be largely sympathetic. That's not necessarily the case now," he said.
Hamas's message was not unequivocal or comprehensive, he said, adding: "The question is, are we witnessing an evolutionary process in which Hamas follows the lead of Islamists in Egypt and Tunisia away from violence and into politics? My sense is we are, but it's a slow process."
Shlomo Brom, of the Institute for National Strategic Studies, said a new offensive on Gaza could be pre-empted by political developments, including the opening of a covert dialogue between Israel and Hamas.
"The developments of Hamas's position taking into account the effects of the Arab spring could open different possibilities," he said.

Israeli airstrike destroys Gaza training base, no injuries
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli war planes bombed central and northern Gaza Strip early Thursday, with no injuries reported.
Israeli forces struck a training site of Islamic Jihad armed wing the Al-Quds Brigades in Al-Zahra district of central Gaza, flattening the compound and damaging nearby houses.
Another airstrike hit a location in the northern Gaza Strip.
A statement from the Israeli army said it hit a "terror activity site" and "terror tunnels."
"The targeting of these sites was in response to the firing of rockets at Israel on Wednesday," the statement said.
Rockets fired by Gaza militant groups have hit southern Israel in recent days, without causing injuries or damage.
An Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday killed one person and wounded ten others, as the coastal enclave commemorated the third anniversary of Israel's large-scale ground invasion of the coastal strip.
On Wednesday, an Israeli tank fired an artillery shell which landed in an open area in the north Gaza, without causing damage or injuries.
Israel launched an unprecedented three week war on the Gaza Strip on Dec. 27, 2008 which killed nearly 1,400 Palestinians were killed in the military assault, including over 300 children. The majority of those killed were civilians and over 5,000 people were wounded.
Hamas vowed on Tuesday that it would not be intimidated by Israel's threats to launch a new invasion, as Israel's army chief called Operation Cast Lead an "excellent" operation and said any repeat attack must be "swift and painful."

Gantz: New war on Gaza inevitable
GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli chief of staff Benny Gantz has said that a new war on Gaza was inevitable “sooner or later” and that his army was preparing for it.
Gantz, in a statement on the army’s website on Wednesday, said that the new war would be totally different from the last one three years ago.
He said that infantry forces would be more trained on night combat and would use explosives to blast their way through gates and passages.
For his part, first deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council Dr. Ahmed Bahar, said that any new Israeli war on Gaza would not be a “picnic”.
He said in a press release that the Israeli war threats were a type of psychological warfare, noting that the present stage was not similar to the last one as no “tyrannical regimes” would support such an aggression and it would not enjoy international support.
Bahar, however, asked the Palestinian resistance factions to be always on the alert and to remain wary of the “occupation’s cunningness, deceit and treachery”.

Israeli war ministry's budget rises after approved by Knesset
NAZARETH, (PIC)-- The Knesset committees of finance and security on Wednesday approved the Israeli government's decision to raise the budget of the war ministry, although some Israeli officials called earlier for slashing it.
The official Hebrew radio said these two Knesset committees sanctioned the financial plan of the Israeli war ministry by about one billion and 600 million shekels.
Knesset member and head of its security committee Shaul Mofaz had expressed his opposition to this budget increase and demanded cutting it, but Benny Gantz, the Israeli army's chief of staff, warned the Israeli government of cutting the budget because this would affect the military readiness of the Israeli army.
