2 confirmed dead in Silwan shooting
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Officials in Israel confirmed reports Wednesday that two Palestinians were killed after an Israeli settler guard opened fire in a flashpoint neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem.
Officials at the Abu Kabeir forensic center said their teams received two corpses, but they have yet to identify the second Palestinian killed in the shooting in Silwan.
Shortly after the incident, Israeli forces clashed with Palestinian residents who were demonstrating against the killing of Samer Sarhan, 28, and the injury of three others earlier Wednesday morning.
Director of the Wad Hilwa Information Center Jawwad Siyam said an Israeli security guard opened fire at the four men, who were driving through the area at 5 a.m., chasing them down an alley. One of the injured remains in critical condition, the director said.
Israel National Police spokeswoman Loba Samri told reporters at the scene that Sarhan was known for participating in protests and demonstrators, offering a different account of the events leading to his death.
Samri said the guard had crashed his car in the area after which the four began pelting him with stones near one of the local settlers' homes. The guard then opened fire, killing one, she said.
She added that Sarhan's body was transferred to the Abu Kabeir forensic medicine center and that the guard was detained for questioning.
Earlier, a Wad Hilwa official said Israeli forces at the scene prevented the transfer of Sarhan's body out of the area for two hours.

PLO: Settlers used to carry out Israeli attacks
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israel is enacting its ethnic cleansing policy on Jerusalem through the work of settlers as leaders talk peace, Head of Jerusalem affairs at the PLO Ahmad Qrei'a said Wednesday.
Earlier in the day two men were killed and two others wounded by a settler guard in the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem.
Israel must not be able to use settlers to enact its policy, the official said in a statement, expressing outrage over the deaths coming as officials continue peace talks in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
"The slaying of Palestinian citizens by settler' guards employed and protected by the Israeli occupation army is evidence that this government uses extremists to blackmail," Qrei'a said.
The official continued, saying he believed that the ploy behind the incident would be to dissuade Palestinians from insisting on the settlement freeze for fear of settler violence. the Palestinians and impose state terror on negotiations to force the Palestinian side to stop demanding settlement freeze."
Israel wants Jerusalem as a Jewish city, the Palestinians in Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah, Ras Al-Amoud and the Islamic neighborhood at the old city will fear to leave their homes if attacks continue, he said.

Silwan shooting: Police back security guard
Guard who shot east Jerusalem resident to death released from custody under limiting conditions following questioning. According to Jerusalem District Police commander, he opened fire after encountering 'a dangerous ambush.' Massive security forces deployed in capital to prevent escalation.
Jerusalem District Police Commander Aharon Franco on Wednesday evening backed an Israeli security guard who shot Silwan resident Samar Sarchan to death early Wednesday in the east Jerusalem village.
Franco told reporters that "according to an initial investigation, the guard encountered a preplanned ambush which put his life in danger, prompting him to open fire."
The guard was released from custody under limiting conditions after being questioned.
Franco reviewed the violent incidents which followed the killing. "Throughout the day, the police attempted to ease the tensions and contacted Silwan's dignitaries and the killed man's family. As part of these efforts, the police approved a funeral process, which left from Silwan towards the Muslim cemetery near the Temple Mount."
Some 1,000 Palestinians attended the funeral, which sparked riots in the capital.

According to the district commander, several Palestinians "took advantage of the police's permission to hold a funeral procession and began rioting. During the disturbances, four buses were badly damaged, as were private vehicles.
"At a later stage," Franco continued, "young Palestinians began hurling stones from the Temple Mount, forcing police forces to enter the Mount."
Meanwhile, massive police forces have been deployed in east Jerusalem and the Old City area in a bid to prevent an escalation. According to Franco, "We are continuing our dialogue with the killed man's family."
Despite reports of a young Israeli stabbed near Augusta Victoria Hospital, Franco stated that "according to a police investigation, this report is false and the young man was simply injured during the disturbances."

PA: Silwan killing another Netanyahu crime
Samar Sarchan. Shot to death
Director of Palestinian Government Media Center says shooting of east Jerusalem resident 'a trust wrecking move' by Israeli prime minister
The Palestinian Authority on Wednesday harshly condemned the killing of Samar Sarchan, who was shot to death by a security guard in the east Jerusalem village of Silwan.
The incident sparked riots in the village, which spread to the Temple Mount during Sarchan's funeral procession.
Ghassan al-Khatib, director of the Palestinian Government Media Center, said the incident was "a crime added to the series crimes of the occupation on Palestinian lands, particularly in east Jerusalem, which are harming both the people and the land."
He accused the Israeli prime minister of being responsible for the incident. "These are the trust wrecking moves of (Benjamin) Netanyahu, who is directly responsible to the crime in the Silwan neighborhood, and to all the crimes of the occupation regime."
Khatib added that "the person who sends armed settlers to settle in the heart of a Palestinian neighborhood, daily provoking the unarmed Palestinians, is paving the way for these crimes.
He stressed that "these criminal acts will not prevent the Palestinian people from holding on to their land and rights, and will only increase their determination to realize their freedom and independence."
The Palestinian government demanded that Israel allow the transfer of Silwan residents injured in the clashes to hospitals. "The government demands that the detainees be released and evacuated from the village," Khatib said.
Meanwhile, the father of the killed Palestinian did not blame the Israeli government for his son's death. "I woke up at 4 am to pray and my son went to work. Then, at 7 am, we heard that he was dead. It's all in God's hands," he told Ynet.

Hamas: Silwan events prove peace talks used as a cover for Israel's crimes
GAZA, - The Hamas Movement stated that what is happening in Silwan neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem reflects that Israel maliciously uses its talks with the Palestinian Authority (PA) to cover its intended crimes and violence against the Palestinian people.
In a press release on Wednesday, Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said the Silwan events that claimed the life of a Palestinian and led to the injury of many others took place simultaneously with similar attacks waged by settlers on Palestinian villagers and their farms in Al-Khalil district.
All these violations as well as recent Israeli threats to take military action against Gaza prove that Israel really takes advantage of its revived peace negotiations with the PA in order to appear before the world as dovish, spokesman Barhoum added.
The spokesman urged the Arab countries to immediately revoke the cover it gave to the PA for its direct talks with Israelis and called on de facto president Mahmoud Abbas to stop his peace meetings with the occupation and let go of the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank to defend its people.
Local sources in Silwan reported that a young Palestinian man was killed by Israeli settlers and dozens of Silwan young men were subsequently injured in the confrontations with IOF troops, especially after a large number of Israeli troops were deployed in the area to quell angry Palestinian protests at the murder of the young man.
Clashes are still taking place between the Palestinians and Israeli troops, according to media reports.

Israeli forces raid al-Aqsa Mosque
Israeli forces have stormed the holy al-Aqsa Mosque in al-Quds (Jerusalem) to disperse Palestinians protesting against Israeli aggressions.
Palestinian officials say the protests started after an Israeli guard shot and killed a 32-year old Palestinian during clashes between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the Silwan neighborhood on Wednesday.
The killing sparked protests in the area in which at least ten Palestinians were wounded.
Israeli riot police used rubber bullet and tear gas to disperse protesters and chased off those who sought refuge at al-Aqsa mosque, Islam's third-holiest shrine.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or further confrontations.
Despite the resumption of direct Israeli-Palestinian talks, the Palestinian Authority says Israeli settlers have not stopped attacking Palestinians in occupied territories for even a single day.
Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian Authority official in charge of monitoring settler activity in the northern, occupied West Bank, says Israeli settlers attack Palestinians and their properties on a daily basis. He says the attacks are premeditated and carefully planned.
Other reports say Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farms in the West Bank city of Nablus on Tuesday and took away part of their olive crop.

Arabs resume Jerusalem riots
Police on high alert in wake of Arab violence, killing of Silwan resident; neighborhood residents vow to exact price for incident
Riots in east Jerusalem's SIlwan neighborhood resumed Thursday evening following a quiet day in the area.
The neighborhood was the site of violent riots Wednesday after a Jewish guard killed an Arab resident in the area. Police are continuing to deploy in force in east Jerusalem, ahead of Friday's Muslim prayers at Temple Mount.
Thursday evening, dozens of Palestinians torched tires and hurled stones at Jewish homes in the neighborhood and also at border Guard Forces deployed near the Dung Gate in Jerusalem's Old City.
Security forces responded with crowd dispersal means. No injuries or damage were reported. However, Silwan residents complained that tear gas used by troops came into their houses.
Meanwhile, sources in the neighborhood said that the killing of the local resident will be met with a response, adding that riots are expected to intensify during Friday's Muslim prayers at Temple Mount
"We intend to continue to show that the killing of our sons will not be ignored without exacting a price," one source said. "It can't be that we're shot and our blood is spilled, while life in Jerusalem runs normally."
Police officials met Thursday to assess the situation and decided to maintain a reinforced police deployment Friday, in an effort to maintain law and order in east Jerusalem and the Old City. However, officials decided not to restrict the age of worshippers entering the Temple Mount compound.

Police release the Jewish settler who shot a Palestinian in Silwan
NAZARETH, (PIC)-- A Jewish settler was released on bail Wednesday after killing a Palestinian man in the Silwan district of Jerusalem, as tensions rise in Jerusalem in wake of the shooting.
The settler fired several shots at Samer Sarhan, 32, and other youths for allegedly throwing stones at him. Sarhan died after he bled for two hours and police stopped an ambulance from saving him. Others were wounded in the shooting.
Violent clashes re-erupted Wednesday between outraged Palestinian youths and armed settlers in several neighborhoods of the Silwan district in wake of Sarhan's killing.
Local residents said Palestinian youths hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at settlement outposts in Silwan.
A large force of Israeli occupation police arrived at the scene and closed off a number of entrances to the district and fired tear gas at rioters. An Israeli settler was stabbed in the clashes.
Israeli radio reported that three Molotov cocktails were thrown at Israeli soldiers and four at a Jewish institution on the Zaytoun mountain. No injuries or damages were reported.
Meanwhile in Gaza, the Islamic Jihad movement said that recent developments in Jerusalem are compelling evidence that the current peace talks between the PA and Israel provide a conducive climate for Israeli plans to crack down on the Palestinians.
The group said in a statement Wednesday that settler attacks have shown a marked increase after the resumption of direct negotiations between the two sides, in light of security coordination between the PA security militias and Israel.
For his part, Palestinian MP Dr. Ahmed Abu Halabiya said that Abbas remaining in negotiations in light of the vicious attacks against the people of Jerusalem is clear evidence that the PA has been conspiring with Israel.
What's happening in Jerusalem is part of an Israeli plan aimed at judaizing the city and its districts and establishing the alleged City of David. Abu Halabiya said in a statement on Wednesday.
Palestinian religious affairs minister Dr. Abu Sha'ar denounced Arab and international silence against Israel's practices against Palestinians in Jerusalem, at the same time calling on religious leaders to mobilize a public uprising in protest of Israel's arrogance.
In a statement he gave Wednesday, Abu Sha'ar pointed the finger at Israel, Israeli settlers, and extremist Jewish groups for the killing of a Jerusalem man whose life was taken in the blink of an eye for defending a national Islamic cause in face of judaization.

Woman and little girl among others affected by tear gas in Silwan clashes
OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Many Palestinian citizens including a 40-year-old woman and a little girl in Silwan neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem suffered from tear gas inhalation in the violent clashes that continued for the third consecutive day on Friday.
Eyewitness reported that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) intensified their attacks on different neighborhoods in Jerusalem, especially in Batn Al-Hawa of Silwan district, and excessively used tear gas grenades and rubber bullets to quell the angry protesters.
A woman above age 40 and a 15-year-old girl were transferred to hospital in serious condition after they inhaled tear gas.
The clashes erupted last Wednesday when a group of Israeli settlers escorted by armed gunmen killed a Palestinian young man and wounded many others in this area of occupied Jerusalem.
In this context, the Hebrew radio reported that the Israeli police detained 16 Jerusalemite citizens on suspicion of participating in Silwan events, adding that the police chief in the holy city ordered his forces to continue to be on alert following these events.
For its part, the Jerusalem committee of the Palestinian ministry of religious affairs strongly denounced that the tight Israeli restrictions imposed on the holy city's neighborhoods and alleys, and the entrances to the Aqsa Mosque.
In a statement, the committee said that the IOF troops imposed restrictions Friday morning on the entry of worshipers to the holy Mosque which led to the outbreak of violent confrontations following Friday prayers in Rababa neighborhood in Silwan.
It added that a large number of Israeli troops, snipers, and special forces were deployed in different areas of Jerusalem, especially in Issawiya, Silwan, and Shu'fat suburbs in an attempt to quell the Jerusalemite citizens' angry uprising that started in retaliation to the crimes committed by Israeli settlers and soldiers.
The IOF troops kidnapped about 26 Jerusalemites and journalists in different parts of the holy city at the pretext of their involvement in the clashes that took place lately, the committee noted.

Third day of east Jerusalem clashes, 18 Palestinians held
Palestinian youths and Israeli security forces clashed for a third straight day on Friday in annexed east Jerusalem, with Israeli police saying they have detained 18 for acts of violence.
On Friday evening several hundred people threw rocks at Israeli troops in the Palestinian neighbourhood of Issawiya following a rumour that a Palestinian baby had died from inhaling tear gas from an Israeli grenade fired the day before.
The rumour was broadcast from loudspeakers on top of mosques in the neighbourhood, with youths then setting tyres on fire and throwing rocks at Israeli forces, an AFP photographer said.
"There were minor incidents at Issawiya and Silwan, and we rapidly reestablished order," Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
Earlier Rosenfeld said 18 Palestinians had been arrested since Thursday night for suspicion of "involvement in acts of violence".
During the day Friday, violence erupted in the Arab districts of Wadi Joz, Ras al-Amud and Silwan, where youths hurled stones and sometimes petrol bombs at Israeli security forces, who retaliated with rubber bullets and tear gas, according to AFP photographers.
"We mobilised several thousand men who will remain deployed -- largely in Jerusalem -- until the end of the festival of Sukkot" or the Feast of Tabernacles which ends next week, Rosenfeld said.
Two local leaders of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah were among those detained, the faction said in a statement, and vowed it would "continue fighting to protect the population" against Israeli settlers.
Stone-throwing youths also clashed with Israeli police in Arab east Jerusalem on Thursday, after a Jewish settlement guard shot dead a Palestinian the day before.
Police barred men under the age of 50 from joining Friday Muslim prayers at the flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound, which is known to the Jews as the Temple Mount and is holy to both religions.
The Israeli military had already imposed a 10-day closure of the West Bank for Sukkot.
Such closures happen routinely during Jewish and Israeli national holidays when large numbers of people often gather in public places, heightening Israeli security concerns.

Abu Nasir Abu Sanad of the Bustan neighborhood said his wife Haneyya Awda Abu Sanad, 65, is in intensive care after she suffered a stroke when she was hit last Wednesday with a stun grenade while on the balcony of her home after she learned about the death of her daughter’s husband.
Abu Sanad said she lost consciousness after Israeli soldiers blocked ambulances from delivering treatment for her at the appropriate time.
Violent clashes reportedly broke out Saturday night between Palestinians and Israeli troops, who fired a barrage of gas bombs on homes.
A cautious calm returned to Jerusalem at midnight Saturday after Israeli forces withdrew from those districts after fierce clashes with Palestinians, Mohammed Sadiq, director of the Jerusalem Information Center told the PIC Sunday morning.
He said there is still no accurate count of the number of casualties in the onslaught by Israeli forces on Silwan, Isawiya, and other districts of Jerusalem, but preliminary information suggests 30 cases of suffocation from tear gas.
A Palestinian man was seriously injured after inhaling toxic gas fired by Israeli soldiers in Silwan before partially withdrawing from the district. A Palestinian woman was hit with a rubber bullet, he reported.
Sadiq said earlier in a press statement that large numbers of the Israeli police attempted to storm the Isawiya district, but youths confronted them with stones and empty bottles before violent clashes erupted, ending in several cases of suffocation. Israeli police let off occasional barrages of toxic gas and gunfire.
Isawiya residents marched through the town carrying a symbolic coffin of the one year old baby Mohammed Abu Sarah, who died yesterday after inhaling toxic gas on Friday, in the first time in years armed protesters appeared in the Palestinian march.

Israeli border police break into homes and demand to be served coffee in Silwan
(1:00) Silwan, How Border Policeman asking for Coffee
On Tuesday evening, Israeli border police and special Yasma forces rampaged through the East Jerusalem city of Silwan. Their presence on the ground was due to unrest that has been engulfing the city since last week's murder of a 35 year old Palestinian at the hands of a private settler security guard. Recently, I was on the ground and witnessed soldiers urinating and defecating on the roofs of private Palestinian homes, throwing bottles (water and beer) on to Palestinians pedestrians on the street and breaking windows left and right.
From the ground I tweeted:
Soldiers are trashing roof tops with urine and feces in Silwan. We are cleaning up and putting the waste in front of the settler house.
The police have no shame at all. They have broken a window now and poked their heads into the house demanding coffee.
They are also throwing bottles from roofs on to the main streets. The border police are doing this that is.
Below is the first in a series of videos that document these petty, routine and all to familiar crimes of occupation which the Israeli army commits on a daily basis.

Israel used 'banned arms' in crackdown
An Israeli soldier holds a tear gas canister during a demonstration by Palestinian and foreign activists.
Locals in an Israeli-occupied neighborhood find traces of banned weaponry, used by Israeli forces in their crackdown on a recent wave of protests.
The Silwan neighborhood of East al-Quds (Jerusalem) has been swept with outrage at a curfew imposed following the troops' killing of two Palestinians on September 22, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency reported. The order prevented movement between al-Quds' neighborhoods.
The area of the clashes was scattered after the suppression with expired and oxidized tear gas canisters.
Medical staff said those injured in the incidents displayed signs of poisoning. Residents, meanwhile, reported an increase in the symptoms of fatigue, high fever, vomiting and shortness of breath.
A 14-month-old infant has also died due to its inhalation of tear gas fired by Israeli forces, confronting the protests in East al-Quds that followed the recent killings.
A preliminary probe has been launched into the use of the weapons, while further investigation is planned.

Palestinian child injured in Silwan confrontations
OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- A ten-year-old Palestinian child was hit with a sonic bomb in his eye and a rubber bullet in his leg during an Israeli police raid into Silwan in occupied Jerusalem on Monday night.
Local sources said that the occupation policemen broke into the town, south of the Aqsa Mosque, and burst into many homes at the conclusion of which they detained four minors.
Witnesses reported that the security men terrorized civilians, especially children and women, during their raid that also witnessed breaking doors and windows of numerous houses.
The sources said that Suleiman Siyam, 10, was rushed to hospital, adding that border police in plain clothes apprehended four children in one of the town's suburbs in the age category 11 to 13.
Israeli occupation forces (IOF), meanwhile, bulldozed lands in Beit Fajjar village, Bethlehem district, at a late hour on Monday night and destroyed a caravan owned by Raed Takatka.
The Israeli military authorities banned Palestinian farmers of Masha village, west of Salfit district, from entering their land located behind the separation wall to harvest their olives.
Local sources said that 20 farmers were waiting since the early morning hours on Monday to reach their land but the IOF soldiers did not allow them to pass.
They said that more than 1,000 dunums of olive groves owned by Palestinians lay behind the wall, and their owners could not harvest their olives due to the Israeli ban.

MKs touring Silwan get caught in Arab-Jewish clashes
Car carrying members of State Control Committee hit by rocks, as tensions in East Jerusalem neighborhood continue.
Tensions in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan continued on Tuesday as a group of Palestinian youth hurling rocks at local Jewish residents hit a car carrying members of Knesset.
The members of the State Control committee were touring a Jewish-occupied building in the heart of the Arab neighborhood, to assess the residents' claim that they were being unfairly targeted by police monitoring illegal construction.
The MKs were accompanied by heavy Border Police and Israel Police security. The ston-throwing incident occurred as they were leaving the neighborhood, and found themselves in the middle of the clashes between Jews and Arabs.
There were no casualties and the car sustained no damage.
The area is home to some 60,000 Palestinians and 500 Jews. The pattern of Jewish settlement is unlike anywhere else, with some 70 Jewish families in 15 different locations, islands among tens of thousands of Palestinians. The resulting friction requires the presence of dozens of security guards and surveillance cameras.
Since Palestinian resident Samer Sirhan was shot to death before Sukkot, hardly a day has gone by without cars belonging to Jews being stoned. Settlers also report that their cars have been torched and they have been harassed on the street.
Recently, settlers wrote to Police Commissioner David Cohen demanding that he dismiss Jerusalem police chief Maj. Gen. Aharon Franco because of what they termed his failure to protect them. The letter said more than 60 cars had been damaged by stones, iron bars and other objects over the past three months.
The latest downturn in the situation followed an incident on Friday in which Silwan settler leader David Be'eri hit two Arab children with his car after they allegedly threw stones at it.

Child injured in Silwan clashes
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian child sustained a rubber bullet wound to the leg and another injury to his face after he was hit by a stun grenade during clashes in the flashpoint East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan on Monday afternoon, locals said.
Locals identified the child as Suleiman Siyam, 12, who was injured when clashes broke out in Silwan after undercover Israeli forces raided the Beir Yacoub neighborhood.
During the raid, locals said four 12-year-olds were detained by forces for allegedly participating in clashes with Israeli forces in the area. Several residents suffered from tear gas inhalation.
Spokesman for Israel's National Police Mickey Rosenfeld said officers were deployed to the scene after stones were thrown at homes. Riot dispersal means were used, he said, including stun grenades but said no injuries were reported in the incident.
Rosenfeld further said a "number of youngsters" were detained for questioning that immediately following clashes "things were relatively quiet."
On 22 September a Palestinian was killed in Silwan by an Israeli settler guard, prompting days of unrest across the flashpoint neighborhood.

ISRAELI TERROR CONTINUES TO TARGET CHILDREN IN EAST JERUSALEM
Eight Year Old Palestinian Kidnapped By Israeli Soldiers.
On Tuesday at dawn, Israeli soldiers invaded Silwan town in occupied East Jerusalem, broke into the house of Mofeed Mansour and kidnapped his eight year old child.
Fakhri Abu Thiab, member of the Committee for Defending Silwan, slammed the kidnapping of the child, stating that the attack violates international law regarding the basic rights of children as well as Israeli laws.
The army and the police surrounded the house of the child and took him away from his parents, terrorizing the child and his whole family.
Under what law, what right, can a child be kidnapped like this? Abu Thiab asked. This proves that the Israeli police reached a dangerous level of immorality and disregard for the internationally guaranteed rights of the children.
