Palestinian wounded in Israeli aerial raid
GAZA, (PIC)-- A Palestinian young man was wounded in northern Gaza Strip at dawn Saturday after Israeli warplanes raided the area, medical sources said.
Adham Abu Salmiya, the spokesman for medical services, told the PIC reporter that the youth sustained medium injuries when the warplanes bombed an area east of Jabaliya to the north of Gaza.
An Israeli army spokeswoman claimed that the raid targeted a group of Palestinians who were preparing to fire a rocket at an Israeli target.
For his part, Hamas MP Mushir Al-Masri held the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) fully responsible for consequences of its military escalation in Gaza and the West Bank that killed three Palestinians and wounded many others since the start of this month.
He told the PIC on Friday that the escalation reflected the IOA “criminal and terrorist mentality”.
Masri affirmed that the IOA crimes would not bring about security, adding that resistance would not remain silent for long and would not allow Gaza to be target of repeated strikes while the Israelis enjoyed stability and security.
He said that consultations among various national factions would determine the nature of the coming stage and developments on the field.

Hamas holds Israel fully responsible for consequences of targeting civilians
DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Hamas movement held the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) fully responsible for results of its recent military escalation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
A responsible source in Hamas, commenting on the IOA “criminal escalation”, warned the IOA of persisting in targeting Palestinian civilians and public utilities.
He hailed the Palestinian steadfastness and called on the Palestinian people to maintain cohesion and to foster national unity in face of the “Zionist war machine”.
A number of Palestinians were killed and civilian homes and public utilities were destroyed in the recent spate of Israeli military attacks on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Dozens of Palestinians injured in West Bank night raids
NABLUS, (PIC)-- Several Palestinians in Idhna village west of Al-Khalil suffered from the effects of breathing tear gas after Israeli forces continued to raid several regions of the West Bank on Saturday morning.
Locals said a large Israeli force of seven jeeps and a troop carrier stormed the town, leading to clashes with locals.
Several locals sustained breathing difficulties after the force fired tear gas, stun grenades, and bullets at them.
More night raids took place in Yaabud, located west of Jenin city.
Locals said Palestinians were randomly questioned by an intelligence officer who accompanied the raid, but they were released without arrests.
Separately, Israeli occupation authorities arrested a 19-year-old Palestinian youth from the Nablus area while he was crossing an Israeli bridge with his family on his way to Jordan.
Elements from the Israeli intelligence agency told the family of the arrestee, Ala Hamdan al-Amouri, that there was an order to arrest him without explaining the reason for arrest or where he would be taken.

'Israel plans to strike Iran in September'
(6:20) ISRAELI-IRAN WAR in Sept 2011? U.S. Warships Enter Gulf As CIA Veteran Predicts WAR!
Ex-CIA official Robert Baer believes an Israeli strike against Tehran is rather imminent; predicts US will have to get involved.
Israel may mount a strike against Iran in the fall, longtime CIA officer Robert Baer, who spent 21 years in the Middle East, told a Los Angeles radio station Saturday.
Baer ventured such a move will drag the United States into another major war and endangering US military and civilian personnel throughout the Middle East and beyond.
Baer spoke on the provocative KPFK Los Angeles show Background Briefing, hosted by Ian Masters.
Baer didn't name sources for his prediction of an Israeli attack, but the few he did cite are all Israeli security figures who have publically warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was adamant to strike Iran, such as former Mossad Chief Meir Dagan.
Baer said that "There is almost near certainty that Netanyahu is planning an attack (on Iran)… and it will probably be in September before the vote on a Palestinian state. And he's also hoping to draw the United States into the conflict," he explained.
The ax-CIA official went on to guess that the Israeli air force would attack "Natanz and other nuclear facilities to degrade their capabilities. The Iranians will strike back where they can: Basra, Baghdad," effectively forcing the US to "jump into the fight" with attacks on Iranian targets.
"Our special forces are already looking at Iranian targets in Iraq and across the border (in Iran) which we would strike. What we're facing here is an escalation, rather than a planned out-and-out war...it's a nightmare scenario. We don't have enough troops in the Middle East to fight a war like that. I think we are looking into the abyss," he said.

Israeli airstrike injures 7 in north Gaza
GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – Seven people including four children were injured in the northern Gaza Strip city of Beit Hanoun when Israeli jets fired a missile at a target near a residential area overnight, a medical official said.
Gaza emergency and ambulance services official Adham Abu Salmiya said all the victims were members of the Zaanin family. They were evacuated to Beit Hanoun Hospital for treatment.
Abu Salmiya highlighted that over the past two weeks, three people were killed and more than 20 were injured in Israeli raids on the coastal enclave. Among the injured, he added, were six children and two girls.
Israeli forces have been launching strikes on a daily basis over the past four days.
Meanwhile, three so-called Qassam rockets fired from the Gaza Strip on Saturday night hit open areas in the western Negev, Israeli media reported Sunday morning.
There were no reports of injuries or damage.
The first projectile exploded at around 1 a.m. within the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council, the Israeli news site Ynet reported. Two additional projectiles landed in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council.
On Saturday, a Palestinian man was injured by an Israeli airstrike on northern Gaza. Two days earlier, an airstrike killed one man and injured five others in the tunnel area near Egypt.
Israeli army officials and Palestinian security sources said the most recent raid targeted a group of militants as they prepared to launch a homemade projectile toward Israel from the east of Gaza City.
The commander of Israel's army Benny Gantz held an urgent meeting Friday to discuss the situation along the border with Gaza and "practical steps" to end projectile fire, news reports said.
Israel's Hebrew-language daily Maariv said the meeting was attended by senior commanders of the Israeli army in various wings including the commander of the southern region.
The army officials said they held Hamas "fully responsible for this situation," allegedly for deliberately failing to stop the firing of projectiles into southern Israel after a sharp decrease of several months.
The past few days of rocket fire and airstrikes represent the first significant recurrence of violence in the area since April, when airstrikes killed 19 Palestinians after a missile fired from Gaza killed a teenager.
Israel has imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip since Hamas took control in 2007.

Israeli tank fire injures seven Gazans
Seven people have been injured in an attack by Israeli tanks on the Gaza Strip, which was the fifth successive day of Israeli assaults on the Palestinian territory.
Four children were among the wounded after Israeli tanks opened fire on Gaza in the early hours of Sunday morning, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Tel Aviv justifies its attacks on Gaza by saying they are self-defense measures in response to rockets fired into southern Israeli towns from the Gaza Strip.
However, Gaza's democratically elected Hamas government has said that Israel is only making excuses to attack the blockaded territory.
On Saturday, rescue teams discovered the body of a young man killed in an Israeli aerial attack on a tunnel between the southern city of Rafah and Egypt.
Israel regularly pounds the tunnels, accusing Palestinian resistance fighters of using the cross-border passages for smuggling and storing weapons.
But Gazans reject the allegations, maintaining that the tunnels are used to bring badly needed supplies into the region, which has been under an Israeli siege since mid-2007.
Human rights groups have condemned the Israeli aggression of the past week and called on the international community to provide protection to Gaza's 1.5 million residents.

Activists say Israel navy tried to sink Gaza boat
GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- A boat crewed by solidarity activists came under fire Saturday as it attempted to sail further than three miles off Gaza's coast, breaking a sea blockade.
The Olivia boat's purpose is to try and defend Palestinian fishermen in Gazan waters.
A European woman onboard the boat told Ma'an that when she informed sailors that she was helping fishermen, one of them said, “Even if the whole EU comes here, they will not pass, neither can they defy Israeli decisions. The decisions say each boat that tries to break the sea blockade will be sunk."
On Saturday, the Olivia sailed to bring back remnants of a fishing boat which the Israelis damaged earlier. Three internationals were onboard, and they managed to anchor near Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City.
Head of the Gazan association of fishing and sports Mahfouth Kabariti said the solidarity activists managed to bring back some fishing equipment belonging to the Al-Habil family, whose boat was sunk.
He said two Americans and one Swedish citizen were on board the Olivia.
An Israeli military spokeswoman did not return a call seeking comment.

Spokesman for medical services Adham Abu Salmiya told the PIC reporter that one of the injured was in a serious condition, and that both were taken to the European Hospital in Khan Younis city.
Local sources told the PIC reporter that an Israeli drone plane bombed an advanced observation post for the Qassam fighters wounding two of them.
Three Palestinians were killed and more than 20 were wounded in Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past few days.

Israeli airstrike injures 2 Palestinians
A Palestinian boy at the site of a damaged house in Beit Hanun after an Israeli airstrike, July 17, 2011.
Two Palestinians have been injured in an Israeli airstrike on the southern areas of the Gaza Strip, medics say.
According to the medical sources, the Palestinians were injured during the attack which took place early on Monday, AFP reported.
“The Israeli air force carried out an attack at around 2:30 a.m. (2330 GMT Sunday) just east of Khan Yunis, which injured two Palestinians, one of them critically,” said emergency services spokesman Adham Abu Selmiya.
The Israeli army has confirmed the raid, the fifth attack on the besieged enclave in six days, claiming that its air force targeted the Palestinians "who were preparing to attack Israel."
On Sunday, Palestinian medics reported another airstrike, which injured seven people. However, the Israeli army denied the report.
Also, a series of Israeli airstrikes killed at least 19 Palestinians in April.
Israel launched an all-out military offensive on the Gaza Strip three days before the turn of 2009. The ensuing three-week war killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, most of whom were civilians including many women and children.

2 injured in air attacks on southern Gaza
GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – Two Palestinians were injured, one of them critically, as Israeli warplanes targeted the southern Gaza Strip for the fifth day in row, onlookers said.
A Ma’an reporter said fighter jets fired missiles at the town of Khuza’a east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Two men were injured and were evacuated to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, where medics said one of the victims sustained critical wounds.
Israel's army described the target as a "terrorist squad planning to target IDF soldiers," the Ynet news site reported. The attack was a result of a cooperation with the Shin Bet.
On Sunday, medics said seven Palestinians from one family were injured in Israeli airstrike on Beit Hanoun. Amongst the victims were four children. Israel's army denied carrying out the attack.

Israel navy attacks rights monitors boat
(2:19) Israel navy attacks rights monitors boat - Press TV News
Israeli gunboats have attacked fishermen and human rights monitors aboard a boat off the coast of the besieged Gaza Strip.
An Israeli navy vessel targeted the members of the Civil Peace Service, aboard the Oliva boat which monitors human rights conditions of the fishermen in Gaza, for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The Israeli boat surrounded the Oliva closely, creating turbulence in the water in an attempt to capsize the monitoring vessel.
We are here between one and one and a half miles off the coast of Gaza. Under the terms of the Oslo Agreement, Palestinian fishermen are supposed to be able to utilize 20 nautical miles for fishing, said Joe Catron of the Civil Peace Service.
You completely see the Zionist navy harassing fishermen, creating waves in an attempt to capsize their boats, he further added.
A Gazan fisherman said they face extreme difficulties to provide for their families because of the three-nautical-mile restriction imposed by Israel.
In recent days, Israeli gunboats have been firing their machine guns and water cannons at fishermen and international activists.
Clearly, they (Israelis) are trying to get rid of us. They do not want the Oliva to watch what they do as we are a human rights monitoring organization, said Alix Robinson of the Civil Peace Service.
The Israeli regime laid an economic siege on the Gaza Strip in June 2007 after the democratically-elected Hamas lawmakers took over the administration of the enclave.
The blockade has had a disastrous impact on the humanitarian and economic situation in the impoverished territory.
Some 1.5 million people are being denied their basic rights, including the freedom of movement and their rights to appropriate living conditions, work, health and education.

Gaza paper: IDF scattered warning flyers
Flyers said to caution residents to keep away from security fence, request info on tunnel smugglers.
Palestinian eye-witnesses in Gaza claim IDF aircraft scattered warning flyers cautioning Gaza Strip residents to keep a safe distance of at least 300 meters from the security fence with Israel, according to a daily newspaper close to Hamas.
Witnesses say the flyers contain a sketch of which area is off-limits. In another flyer distributed in Gaza, residents were asked to give information on tunnel smugglers in the Strip.
According to the Palestinian report, the first flyer contained "incitement against the Palestinian resistance," saying "the IDF warns again to keep a safe distance of at least 300 meters from the security fence. Anyone who comes near is putting himself in danger because IDF forces will take every precaution necessary to keep him away with the help of arms if needed… Signed: IDF Headquarters."
The second flyer allegedly solicits information on smugglers in the Strip. "Terrorists, tunnel owners and smugglers of military equipment know very well that the continuation of terror acts, smuggling of military equipment and digging of tunnels is considered a constant target for further IDF operations, but they continue to operate in your place of residence and to assimilate among you," the flyer read, according to the newspaper report.
It added: "The digging of tunnels from your homes or nearby and the smuggling of military equipment into the Strip by such terrorists puts your life in danger as well as your children, your families and your possessions. You must take responsibility for your future! You must call or email the following address and pass along information on the terrorists involved in this industry of death related to the tunnels."
Ongoing fire
Earlier Monday Air Force jets attacked a terror squad planning to target IDF soldiers in the southern Gaza Strip near the fence on Monday. The IDF said the operation was a joint effort with the Shin Bet.
According to a report by the Palestinian news agency Ma'an, IAF jets fired a number of missiles at outposts east of Khan Younis. Two Palestinians were reportedly hurt in the attack, one of them sustaining serious wounds. The two were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The Palestinians reported that the IDF launched a strike in response which left seven wounded, among them four children. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit denied an attack took place.
Military officials said that Hamas is not preventing other groups from firing rockets and is possibly trying to test Israel's response. Hamas is being held accountable for all rocket fire.

Calls for urgent international intervention as Israel renews escalation on Gaza
GAZA, (PIC)-- The Palestinian Center for Human Rights has called for international intervention as Israel escalates new attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The PCHR said in a statement on Sunday that Israel has been targeting civilians and civilian property in various locations in the Gaza Strip, launching eight airstrikes in the past few days that killed one civilian and injured 20 others, including five children.
The strikes also hit three training sites used by resistance forces as well as barns and partially destroyed a home and caused minor damages on scores of other homes and structures.
The most recent attack took place on Sunday morning in Beit Hanoun. In it, a private well was destroyed and nine Palestinian civilians were injured.
The PCHR emphasized that the recent attacks amount to a major violation of international law and questioned whether Israel is obliged to comply with the international law, given that civilians were deliberately targeted in the attacks.
The statement calls on the international community to urgently intervene to protect the civilians targeted in the Gaza Strip as attacks continue almost daily.
Also on Sunday, Israeli warplanes dropped notices threatening to target civilians who come 300 meters from the Israeli security fence in the eastern Gaza Strip.
They dropped other notices inciting against resistance forces and claiming that they have been digging tunnels.

Breaking News Report: Gaza Under Attack From A Swarm Of Drones
The whole of Gaza City is under air attack with Israel Defense Force (IDF) drones and other aircraft roaming the skies firing rockets and dropping bombs on the Palestinian population.
For Scoop, Julie Webb-Pullman reports that there are swarms of strike aircraft: “There was at least one explosion, then sirens. I can still hear drones , more sirens, lots of sirens, more explosions.”
From one vantage point, she can see a lot of smoke emitting from near Gaza City's university.
From her rooftop, Julie Webb-Pullman reports: “It looks like a massive airstrike - the city of Gaza is under a pall of acrid smoke. The drones still droning. I can't tell where the strikes were, but definitely in the middle of town, as well as further out.”
She said one air-strike was “close-ish but when I went on the roof I saw the whole city is under a pall - the drones are still going, every so often there are More sirens.
“They sound like they're to the south-east of Gaza City, and to the north,” Julie Webb-Pullman reports.
There appears to be an intensifying strategy being deployed by the IDF, should a rocket or an improvised explosive device be lobbed at Israel from inside the Palestinian Territories, then there is a strong retaliatory response.
"There have been strikes every day after none for several months, and on Sunday night the IDF dropped leaflets warning anyone coming within 300 meters of the border would be shot.
"There does seem to be a ratcheting up of activity from both sides - now there appear to be two militant group, neither of them Hamas, firing home-made rockets into Israel.
"They have not wounded or killed anyone at all - yet - but the Israelis have responded with their usual disproportion, injuring many and destroying a lot of civilian property," Julie Webb-Pullman reports.
Background:
United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has just cut back on the aid provided to Palestinian people. This is placing added pressure on the population in Gaza as 80% are dependent on that aid.
The weather is also relentlessly hot, with frequent power cuts and no clean water, making daily life really hard for ordinary people.
There is a distinct Israeli pressure on the Palestine Authority and Hamas not to unify, and not to seek recognition of a Palestinian State at the United Nations General Assembly in September - they have only given the Palestine Authority 50% of the money for salaries for public servants, so they are creating an explosive situation that Israel can then use to justify attacking, arresting, and doing whatever they please to Palestinians.
More to come...

Soldiers 'attack mourners' at Hebron funeral
HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces on Monday evening accosted a group of mourners in Beit Ummar village Monday, activists said.
Two workers for the rights group B'Tselem were beaten by Israeli troops, who opened fire and shot stun grenades at people attending the funeral, local activist Muhammad Awad said.
Awad told Ma'an that Imad Abu Hashem, 21, was taken to a clinic for treatment of injuries.
He added that the troops raided the cemetery and banned people from burying Ibrahim Al-Khatib. People waited in the cemetery until the troops left and then buried Al-Khatib, he said.

Israeli warplanes target northern Gaza
Israeli warplanes have launched airstrikes on the northern areas of the Gaza Strip, a spokeswoman in the Israeli military says.
The unnamed Israeli military official claimed that the warplanes attacked north of the impoverished coastal sliver early Wednesday in retaliation for rockets that Palestinians fired at occupied lands, AFP reported.
No casualties or damage have been reported yet.
The attack comes two days after two Palestinians were injured in Israeli air raid on the southern areas of the Gaza Strip, east of Khan Yunis.
The Wednesday raid is the sixth attack on the besieged enclave in eight days.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Palestinian medics reported another airstrike, which injured seven people. However, the Israeli army denied the report.
The Israeli military frequently bombs the Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, disproportionate force is always used, in violation of the international law, and civilians are often killed or injured.
Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, a situation which has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
