Israel resumes Home Demolitions in Rafah
A large force of Israeli troops backed by tanks, APC's, Helicopoters and bulldozers raided the Sho'uth Neighborhood in Rafah southern Gaza Strip in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The force demolished over 24 houses in the area, in Bloc "G" adjacent to the Philadelphi route along the borders with Egypt, according to Palestinian sources.
Residents of the demolished homes joined thousands of other refugees living in makeshift tents, schools and mosques in Rafah in south Gaza.
The army admitted demolishing some houses but refused to give details. "The IDF destroyed several houses in Rafah" said the army spokesperson Sunday.
Eyewitnesses in Rafah said that the residents of these houses fled their homes as a result of the intensive army gunfire. Later the army came with the bulldozers and demolished the houses and bulldozed vast agricultural land.
These demolitions are seen by local observers as an undermining of the UN Security Council's recent resolution, in which it condemned the home demolition Israel is carrying out in Rafah. In its six days "Operation Rain Bow" in Rafah, Israel demolished over 155 homes, some completely and some partially in Tel Al-Sultan, Al-Salam and Al-Barazil neighborhoods , making over one thousand refugees, "refugees for the second time".
In addition to the home demolition, 56 Palestinians were killed, 41 of them are civilians including more than 10 children, in one of its most violent raids against Gaza Strip since the beginning of the second Intifada in September 2000.

Amnesty Report: Israel is Guilty of War Crimes
Amnesty International, the Human Rights Group, has charged Israel guilty of war crimes and grave violations of Geneva Convention in its demolition of a mass number of Palestinian houses in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the past three years.
Israel has managed for a long time to find justifications to its policies against the Palestinians in the occupied territories. It has always been covered by the US.
According to the report, Israel has demolished over 3000 homes since September 2000, most of them in the Gaza strip and especially in Rafah. The release of this report came at a time Israel had decided to carry out more home demolitions in the southern Gaza Strip.
Hundreds of houses are slated for demolition as the attempt to take a preemptive measure form the high court failed as the court gave the green light to the military establishment to go ahead with the demolitions.
The report said the demolition and destruction are "grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention and are war crimes," calling on Israel to halt the practices immediately.
Amnesty also said the house demolitions are linked to Israeli intentions to take over West Bank and Gaza land. The report also shows that 10 percent of Gaza's agricultural land has been destroyed and more than 226,000 trees uprooted there in 2002 and 2003.
On the other hand, the annual U.S. State Department report released Monday in Washington leveled criticism at Israel's security forces, and was satisfied by calling their record in the West Bank and Gaza Strip "poor" and noting that the interactions between troops and international activists have deteriorated in the past year.
As of last year's report, this one accuses Israel of excessive use of force, leading to "numerous deaths."
Israel was also accused of employing strict closures and arbitrary arrests of Palestinians in the territories, of hindering Palestinian medical personnel and of detaining pedestrians and drivers at checkpoints located throughout the territories.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry responded to the report by justifying the house demolition as fighting terrorism.
Israeli authorities claim that their army destroys structures used by militants to fire from at Israeli targets and or structures used to conceal weapons' smuggling tunnels.
"When terrorists fire from within civilian structures or activate roadside charges from trees and fields, military necessity dictates the demolition of these locations,"
The foreign ministry said. "Under international law, these structures are considered legitimate military targets. Therefore, in the midst of combat, when dictated by operational necessity, Israeli security forces may lawfully destroy structures used by terrorists," it added.
The Amnesty report also called on the Palestinian Authority to take "all possible measures" to stop attacks against Israeli targets.
Israel was also criticized for its policy of collective punishment resembled in curfew, mass home demolitions including the demolition of homes of suicide bombers families, which said there have been 600 of, during the past three years.
Amnesty also called on the American Heavy Equipment company, Caterpillar Inc. "to guarantee that its products are not used to commit human rights violations, including the destruction of homes, land, and other properties."
Caterpillar is the main supplier for the Israeli army especially with the giant bulldozers that carry out most of the home demolitions.
Caterpillar's Chairman and CEO Jim Owens recently wrote a letter to the parents of Rachel Corrie, The American peace activist, form the International Solidarity Movement killed in Gaza when a bulldozer ran over her on March 16, 2003, saying that his company does not have "the practical ability - or the legal right - to determine how our products are used after they are sold."
The current offensive in Rafah in which 20 Palestinians have been killed in less than 24 hours, and the actual demolition of large number of houses without any combat situation, are live evidence to the criticisms mentioned in Amnesty report.

Next Target for assassination is a Arab Israeli
The Israeli Channel Ten TV reportedly said, the next target for the Israeli assassinations is Qais Obeid a Palestinian from Taybeh, in Israel, who moved to live in Lebanon to work with Hezbollah.
The channel's military analyst, based on a military source said Israel will conduct more assassinations pointing out the moderate, local, International and Arab responses to the assassination of Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, founder of Hamas.
The United States has recently vetoed against a UN resolution to internationally condemn the assassination of Yassin. Amos Harel, military correspondent to the Israeli newspaper Haartez said on its online edition, Israeli security source confirm that despite of its threats to revenge Yassin's assassination, Hamas will not be able to step up its attacks because it had reached its capacity limits.
According to Haaretz, the Israeli army will continue to assassinate Hamas leaders claiming that this will help the PA to maintain security in Gaza Strip after an Israeli unilateral withdrawal, in the disengagement plan intended by the Israeli Prime minister Ariel Sharon.
Sharon defined the summer of 2005 as a deadline to implement his plan. Israel has been targeting Hamas and other Palestinian military groups since the beginning of the second Intifada.
Assassinations are not limited to Gaza Strip only, however, all the West Bank, to which the Palestinians respond by a new suicide attack in Israel.
Hamas had vowed a sever response to Yassins death described by Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Rantisi, Hamas's new leader in Gaza Strip, as an unprecedented quake for Israel.
In an article published on March 7, 20004, the Israeli news paper Maariv, claims that Obeid, who is involved in the kidnapping of the Israeli Businessman, reservist officer Elhanan Tennenbaum, was never a security threat to Israel and was dealt with as a criminal..
Besides, the article says he had previously provided intelligence information to the General Security System (GSS), and has several times provided false information.

Rafah's Invasion Leaves 2000 Residents Homeless
The head of the UN agency for Palestinian Refugees Peter Hansen toured Sunday Rafah refugee camp to evaluate the damage caused by the latest military invasion.
Hansen told reporters "we arrived at 120 homes that have been destroyed and still counting" Hansen estimated that around 2000 refugees are left homeless.
Residents of Rafah refugee camp arrived their after being displaced from their original villages and town in 1948 catastrophe. Mohammed Hassan told IMEMC correspondent, pointing to a row of destroyed houses, "my home was among the 50 homes demolished by the army.
They (the army) claim that they were searching for tunnels, I bet anyone to find one within the rubble," "this is collective punishment" he shouted.
The homeless for the second time refugees, who kept searching for their belongings within the rubbles of their homes, have to face the approaching winter without a roof to shelter under.
Hansen described the scene as a human tragedy, adding that UNRWA would do what it can to help elevate the suffering of homeless families.
Army source reported that troops pulled Sunday before dawn out from Rafah refugee camp, but added that a smaller deployment of troops will return to Rafah on Sunday morning to resume operations.
Palestinian sources denied the alleged withdrawal, saying that troops continued operation inside Rafah all Saturday night and in Sunday's early morning hours.
Army officers expressed surprise over the extent of resistance firepower, including hundreds bombs, grenades, and anti-tank missiles.
Local source from Rafah said that army reports on resistance and tunnels are not consistent with the fact that army reported no casualties on its side and are out of proportion, saying that it is being used to cover for army brutality, the huge level of damage caused, and the high casualty toll among civilians.
Army reported the destruction of three tunnels so far and said would continue operating until all tunnels in the area are destroyed.
Witnesses in Rafah reported that at least 8 residents were killed, and 70 more injured.
Rafah's operation presents a new level of escalation in the Gaza Strip, which is expected to trigger more revenge attacks.
Hamas Leader Abdul Aziz Rantisi called upon all resistance groups to retaliate Rafah operation and strike against Israel "everywhere".
With no apparent chances for any diplomatic negotiations, further military escalation are expected in the coming few days.
Palestinian commentators expected for Israel to repeat the, medium scale incursions, similar to the Rafah one in other Gaza Strip areas.
