2 Killed in Israeli Air Strike in Gaza
A Palestinian was killed and two others were wounded early on Sunday in an Israeli air strike north of Gaza City, Palestinian medics said.
The Israeli military confirmed that the air force had struck a "squad of terror operatives who were preparing to fire rockets from the northern Gaza Strip into Israel."
The number of rockets fired from the Hamas-ruled territory declined sharply in the wake of a massive 22-day Israeli offensive in December 2008 and January 2009 during which some 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed.

He added that the martyr's body was mutilated while one of the two other casualties was in a serious condition.
Reports said that the shelling was by an Israeli navy vessel while other reports said it was an aerial raid.

1 killed in Israeli airstrike on Gaza
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- An Israeli airstrike northwest of Gaza City killed a Palestinian on Sunday morning and injured two others, a Gaza medical spokesman said.
Adham Abu Silmiyya said Mahmoud Jabir Washah, 21, was killed when Israel's air force struck the As-Sudaniyya neighborhood near Gaza City. The injured, who were not identified, were transferred to the Kamal Udwan Hospital in northern Gaza, he added.
The Israeli army said the strike targeted "a squad of terror operatives who were preparing to fire rockets from the northern Gaza Strip into Israel," a statement read.
Shortly after peace talks were relaunched in Washington on 2 September, the Israeli air force launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza, killing several. Gaza politicians have said they believed the increase in military action aimed at derailing both peace talks and ongoing Fatah-Hamas unity talks.
In early October, Israeli warplanes launched missiles targeting a car in central Gaza injuring three, medics reported.
The shelling targeted a car driving between Az-Zahra City and An-Nuseirat refugee camp, medics said, adding that three residents were transferred to Al-Aqsa Hospital in stable conditions.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said at the time the strikes were targeting Ahmad Al-Ashkar, who she said was a militant affiliated with the Red Eagles, an armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Al-Ashkar was planning a terrorist attack against Israel, the spokeswoman said.

Israeli forces kill another Palestinian
An Israeli navy vessel shells a beach in the northern Gaza Strip.
In another blow to the stalemated Middle East talks, Israeli forces have shelled the Gaza Strip, killing another Palestinian and injuring two others.
Hamas officials said an Israeli navy boat shelled an area north of Gaza City early on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
Palestinian medical sources have confirmed the death, adding that two other Palestinians were also injured in the Israeli attack.
The incident comes as US-brokered talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel failed to resolve their past disputes.
Israel has repeatedly attacked Gaza since the end of its war on the tiny densely-populated coastal strip at the turn of last year. Gaza has also been under an Israeli siege since 2007.

Report: Hamas warned against capturing soldiers
TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- If Hamas captures another Israeli soldier, Israel's response will be more devastating than Operation Cast Lead, an army official reportedly warned Sunday.
In a statement distributed so several Israeli newspapers, the officer, whose name was not released for reasons that were not immediately clear, said Hamas wanted to capture more soldiers.
"I see less an initiated attempt by Hamas to escalate the situation," he reportedly said, "but if they see that they have a chance to get hold of a strategic asset, through a kidnapping, they will do it."
Non-Hamas operatives captured an Israeli soldier in 2006, but Hamas has negotiated on behalf of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in an attempt to secure a prisoner exchange with Israel.

Top IDF officer warns of new Gaza war if Hamas abducts soldier
Senior IDF officer says Hamas now resembles less a terrorist group than a 'militia with semi-military order' that receives help from Iran and Syria.
Israel's response to the kidnapping of another soldier into the Gaza Strip will be no less severe than Operation Cast lead, a senior General Staff officer warned on Sunday. The statement came in the footsteps of assessments that Hamas may be planning to attempt to capture more soldiers.
The senior Israel Defense Forces officer said Hamas now resembles less a terrorist group than a "militia with semi-military order," which gets help from Iran and Syria in training and equipping its forces.
However, the officer said that "it is easier for the IDF against military-like groups and Hamas now has all the shortcomings of a large organization, and the IDF is using this to its advantage."
The officer said that in the coming years there will be fewer clashes between Hamas and the IDF, and that the Islamist Palestinian group will try to avoid any escalation in the Gaza Strip.
"I see less an initiated attempt by Hamas to escalate the situation," he said, "but if they see that they have a chance to get hold of a strategic asset, through a kidnapping, they will do it."
The officer commented on Operation Summer Rains, a series of ground operations in the Gaza Strip carried out after the kidnapping of Gilad Shalit in June 2006, and said that "it must be made clear to them that a kidnapping will come at a very high cost. The price that Hamas will pay for such incident will be very high. The cost will have to be of the magnitude of Operation Cast Lead."
Meanwhile, Yoav Galant will be replaced on Thursday in his role as GOC Southern Command by Maj. Gen. Tal Russo. Galant is scheduled to become the 20th Chief of Staff of Israel in four months.

Israeli forces, tanks invade Gaza
The Israeli military has reportedly invaded Gaza twice in a single day, keeping up Tel Aviv's regular forays into the blockaded coastal sliver.
On Tuesday, the troops moved into the eastern part of the city of Jabalia in the north of the Gaza Strip.
Enlisting the support of tank reinforcements, the forces carried out a number of incursions into the south of the enclave later in the day, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The invading troops are now being confronted by resistance fighters.
Israeli forces carried out a self-proclaimed withdrawal from Gaza in 2005. The military, however, continues to launch regular deadly attacks on the strip.
The Israeli aircraft frequently overfly Gaza, bombing the tunnels under the strip's border with Egypt. The pathways serve as the territory's only way of bringing in food, medicine and other direly-needed requirements.

Israel troops enter Gaza after IDF drone crashes in Strip
Rochev Hashamayim drone was controlled by an IDF artillery unit on an information gathering mission before it crashed landed on the Hamas-ruled coastal enclave.
An Israel Defense Forces reconnaissance drone crashed into the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday, necessitating Israeli forces to enter the coastal enclave in order to retrieve it.
The Rochev Hashamayim drone was controlled by an IDF artillery unit on an information gathering mission before it crashed landed on the Hamas-ruled territory.
An Israeli military unit then entered Gaza in order to retrieve the unmanned reconnaissance aircraft, later returning to be checked by its original artillery unit.
An IDF spokesman confirmed the details of the incident.
Earlier this week, Palestinian sources reported that one Palestinian was killed and two other injured in an IDF strike in northern Gaza.
An IDF statement confirmed that Israel Air Force attacked terrorist cells planning to launch Qassam rockets or mortar bombs at Israel.
According to Palestinian reports, Israel Navy attacked a Hamas training facility north of Gaza city. Gaza hospital confirmed that one man was killed and two other were wounded, one of whom in critical condition.
"The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers, and will continue to act firmly against terror," an army statement said Sunday, adding that Israel held "Hamas solely responsible for the situation in Gaza and for maintaining the peace there.

IDF boosts presence near Kafr Qaddum
Vandalism of West Bank village's cemetery prompts military to deploy forces in the area to prevent further provocation by settlers.
IDF forces deployed around the West Bank village of Kafr Qaddum, west of Nablus, Friday night, in an attempt to prevent settlers from nearby Kedumim, from infiltrating the village again.
The move followed an earlier incident, in which the village's Muslim cemetery was desecrated: Several headstones desecrated with "Kahane was right" slogans, hailing Rabbi Meir Kahane, the late leader of the radical Kach movement, and Stars of David.
Kafr Qaddum residents reported that dozens of settlers gathered atop a heal overlooking the village, and that IDF troops boosted their presence in order to prevent an altercation.
Village residents filed a completing with the Rabbis for Human Rights group following the cemetery's vandalism. The groups told Ynet that, "This morning's incident is another tier in settler activity. The military's complete helplessness in such cases explains the increase in the harassment of Palestinians.
"We demand that Defense Minister Ehud Barak and the IDF act swiftly and decisively. Things will soon spin out of control and will be much harder to contain."
Villagers also complained that the IDF also refused to open Kafr Qaddum's eastern gate, which connects to a road leading to Nablus.
"The Israelis talks about mitigations, but nothing is really being done to stop the settlers' attacks. The fact that the gate remains closed means that our way to the city is twice as long. Between the IDF and the settlers, our hardship is doubled."
