Husam Raed Rajab Subuh, 11
'Ahed Iyad Muhammad Qadas, 13
Hossam Raed Ragab Sobh: More Information:
At that horrible day, no one was at home to calm down Hossam’s mother, who was very worried about her kids, while the shots of bullets, missiles, and bombs are surrounding their home.
Hossam’s mother was alone with her kids missing her supportive husband who was martyred two years ago.
The mother feared of keep staying alone with her kids at home, so she took them to Hafsa School in Beit Lahiya looking for safety which they lack at home.
But Hossam preferred to stay with his grandparents in Abou Hussein School as they need him.
Hossam’s mother agreed and was calling them every now and then to assure Hossam is alright.
After days of hiding from the missiles at these schools, rumors came up that their home is burned under the attacks.
Hossam came out with his friends to check his home that holds all his memories since he was born. But while they were on their way, an Israeli aircraft shot Hossam directly with a missile that split his body into pieces. He was killed at once.
When mother heard the news, she didn’t believe it, left the school, ran in the streets in her way to Kamal Adwan Hospital. She called his grandfather via mobile, who told her in sad words "Come to say goodbye to Hossam; he is in the morgue".
Mother was shocked and lost her consciousness immediately. When she was awaken, she saw Hossam’s body laid out in front of her. She kissed him and prayed to God to accept him among martyrs.
His Dreams:
Hossam was a student in the 6th grade, but he had no intention to go to university. He always told his mother that he will be satisfied with the secondary education; will work with this diploma to relatively enhance their economic circumstances and to help in obtaining his brothers’ expenses.
His dream was very simple; to be a taxi driver just like his father. But even this simple dream was killed by the Israeli unbelievable aggression.
Among his brothers, Hossam was the elder and the closer to his mother’s heart. For her, he represented hope in the future. She wished he would grow up quickly to fill in the space left by his father. Hossam was responsible young man. He was like a father to his younger brothers, and they loved him so much. His brother, Mohammad, said "Today, I visited Hossam; planted some roses at his grave."
Mohammad didn’t only plant the roses; he also put the headstone, as they couldn’t put it before because of the war. All what they have put at the time of his death was a sheet of cheap thin metal covering the grave.
Mohammad added "Today I prayed for him, stayed at his grave so long, as I am missing him a lot."

'Abdallah Jihad Hussein Jodeh, 14
Muhammad Farid Ahmad al-Ma'suwabi, 15
Abdullah of Gaza City, Gaza, killed by the IDF in Gaza City's Sheikh Radwan neighborhood.
On 7 January 2009, at around 9:00am, resistance fighters launched a home-made rocket from their neighbourhood, near the at-Taqwa mosque.
Mohammad Ma’sawabi and Abdullah Judeh were inside the mosque when the rocket was fired.
As they were coming out of the mosque, an Israeli missile struck, killing both Abdulla and Mohammad. Neighbours, including Mohammad Hmaid (14), Mahmoud’s brother, and Mahmoud Matar (15), rushed to the scene to help.
They carried the bodies and put them in private cars which drove them to the hospital. Minutes later, there was another strike. Mohammad worried about his brother Mahmoud, but felt at ease minutes later when he saw him walking down the street with their cousin Mustafa al-Khaldi.
However, at that moment, there was a third explosion. “I just felt a huge pressure against my body,” says Mohammad. As he looked frantically for Mahmoud, he saw Mustafa’s body “on the ground on his abdomen, with blood pouring out from his back like a fountain.”
Then, he saw his brother Mahmoud. He had been blown into pieces. Mahmoud Matar (15), who had rushed to help after the first strike, was severely injured. He fell into a coma and woke up in a hospital in Egypt on 24 January.
It was then that he knew he had been left blind by the attack. The following information is based on an affidavit taken on 5 March 2009 from Mohammad Hmaid (14), Mahmoud’s brother and Mustafa’s cousin. Mahmoud Hmaid (17), Mustafa al-Khaldi (17), Abdullah Judeh (15) and Mohammad al-Ma’sawabi (15) lived in Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, Gaza City.
In the morning of 7 January 2009, Mahmoud’s brother, Mohammad Hamid (14), went to pray at the at-Taqwa mosque, in their neighbourhood. At around 9:00am, he was heading home, when he heard the sound of a home-made rocket being launched from near the mosque.
A minute later, he saw Mohammad Ma’sawabi and Abdullah Judeh coming out of the mosque. As they were crossing the street, they were hit by a missile.
Mohammad took shelter at a school across the street. He remembers: “Once we took cover, I looked at the place where the missile had landed and saw smoke and dust rising. I also saw Suhaib at-Tibi (16) and his father Marwan (50) looking from the balcony of their house and screaming “Here, here!” pointing at the location of the explosion.”
Mohammad rushed to where the missile had landed and saw Abdullah on the ground: “His abdomen was open like if a hole was dug in it and bleeding profusely. He was still breathing because I felt him breathing rapidly Mustafa al-Khaldi (17), and his chest was moving,”
Then, he saw Mohammad’s body, “headless and bleeding profusely.”
Neighbours immediately came to help. They picked up Abdullah and Mohammad’s body, and put them in two private cars that took them to the hospital. Minutes later, the place was targeted by another missile. Mohammad worried about his brother Mahmoud, as a friend told him he had seen Mahmoud minutes earlier near the mosque. Mohammad started calling Mahmoud on his mobile phone, but he could not get hold of him.
Suddenly, he saw Mahmoud walking towards him with his friend and cousin Mustafa al-Khaldi (17). “Where have you been?” Mohammad shouted at Mahmoud, “but he smiled and didn’t reply.”
At that moment, there was a third explosion. “I just felt a huge pressure against my body,” says Mohammad. “I looked beside me where Naseem had been standing and I saw a pile of flesh on the ground. It was Naseem’s body.”
Mohammad started to look for Mahmoud, but the first thing he saw was Mustafa’s body, blown to pieces. “He was on the ground on his abdomen with blood pouring out from his back like a fountain.” Then, Mohammad saw his brother’s body. He had also been dismembered.
Mahmoud Matar
At around 10:00am, Mohammad and the rest of the injured and dead were taken to Shifa Hospital. Among the injured there was a 15-year-old child, Mahmoud Matar (15), who was taken to the intensive care unit in a coma.
As Mohammad was being treated, his mother called him on the phone and she was crying. “How are your legs?” she kept asking. “My legs are fine, don’t worry,” Mohammad told her. “Are you coming to say goodbye to your dead brother? His body was brought from the hospital to be buried,” she told Mohammad.
Mohammad left the hospital at around 11:00pm, after signing a statement saying that he would take full responsibility for his health condition. “When I got back home,” he says, “I was told that Naseem had been killed in the incident; something I already knew. I was also told that the first missile had killed Mohammad al-Ma’sawabi and Abdullah, whereas the second missile had killed my brother Mahmoud and my cousin Mustafa.”
Mahmoud Matar (15), the child who fell into a coma, lost his eyes. His jaw and teeth were broken, and his lungs were filled with smoke. When he was being transferred to Egypt for treatment, the vehicle came under fire by Israeli tanks, and they were forced to go back to the hospital, where he remained in the ICU for three more days.
On 10 January, he was taken to Egypt. He came out of the coma on 24 January and returned to Gaza on 24 February 2009. He underwent several plastic surgeries on his nose and jaw, and was left blind.

Nadr Basam Ibrahim Qadoura, 17Samer Muhammad Al-`Abd Abu `Asr, 17
Nadr of Jabalya refugee camp, Gaza, killed by IDF shell shrapnel to his head in Jabalya.
Samer Killed In the garden adjacent to his home in Al-`Arayis Valley, Al-Shuja`iyyah, East of Gaza. A guided missile from a reconnaissance warplane hit him while he was helping his friend Hammam, who was injured by the shrapnel of the missiles in his head and neck.
Details of Last Hours:
Samer joined his best friend Hammam whom he used to accompany wherever he went: when going to school, when playing in the alleys, and when going to play in the shade of the nearby trees and gardens until they were killed in the same time.
Samer went to save his friend Hammam when he saw him running for his life from the warplanes that aimed at him while he was picking oranges. However, the second missile killed him and his friend Hammam. Their blood was mixed together!
They came out, in the days of the war, to meet the needs of their families. On their way, Abu Salem the grocer met them while the two friends were laughing. When Abu Salem asked them about the reason, they did not answer, so he thought that weird; how they laugh during the war mood.
Later on, they told him that they were going to be died that day or the day after. He laughed more and more, but now he remembers their prophecy and supplicates Allah to bestow mercy on them. They were like a shadow to one another and they left together as friends.
Other Information:
Samer was so popular among his siblings because he was so kind. He also was the closest to his mother because he was the obedient who did not refuse any of her requests. His uncle and grandfather loved him as well. His elder brother, Tamer, misses him so much because Samer used to meet his needs and did some works on his behalf. Whenever he remembered a situation for his brother, he felt sorrow for his death, but he has nothing to do but to observe patience and seek the reward from Allah.
His Dreams:
Samer was in the second grade of the secondary school and wished to finish high school. He hoped to complete his education and get a job to secure an honorable life for his mother who bore the responsibility of him and his siblings after their father had passed away while they were young children.
He dreamt of building a house for his mother to save her the trouble by meeting her needs and taking the responsibility from her. However, the occupation did not respite him to achieve his dreams, and all those dreams remained a memory in the heart of the sad mother, a heartbreak to fill her eyes with tears!

In the 12 days of Israel's war on Gaza, the shelling of a United Nations school on Tuesday has been the most shocking incident. More than 40 people were killed. Israel claims the school was a legitimate target because rockets were fired from it.
But the UN has vehemently denied those claims.
Al Jazeera is the only international news channel with correspondents on both sides of the border. Ayman Mohyeldin visited what's left of the school, and the families now in mourning

IDF issues warnings to the civilians of Gaza
The IDF warnings are aimed at reducing the risk of injury to uninvolved civilians by prior announcement of the IDF's intent to attack, instructing residents to evacuate the areas where terrorists or terror infrastructure are to be found.
Leaflet: IDF warns residents of Gaza
On the basis of the principle that the IDF has no quarrel with Gaza's civilian population who are being used as a human shield by the Hamas terrorists, the IDF has been transmitting announcements and warnings to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
These announcements are aimed at reducing the risk of injury to uninvolved civilians by prior announcement of the IDF's intent to attack, instructing residents to evacuate the areas where terrorists or terror infrastructure are to be found.
To make sure these warnings reach the residents, the IDF has used different measures: dropping leaflets, making phone calls, and commandeering local radio and TV stations.
The main messages include:
-- Calls to evacuate buildings where weapons are stored and/or where tunnels have been dug (since December 27)
-- Instructions to move to the center of towns (as of January 3)
-- Instructions to residents to listen to IDF advisories and avoid interaction with terrorist elements
These messages were conveyed by several means:
1. Dropping leaflets:
On December 28, 300,000 leaflets were dropped throughout the entire Gaza Strip
On December 29, 80,000 leaflets were dropped in Rafah
On January 3, 300,000 leaflets were dropped in the entire Gaza Strip, especially in the northern and eastern parts
On January 5, 300,000 leaflets were droopped in Gaza City, Khan Yunis and Rafah.
Leaflet (December 28, 2008):
Translation:

The IDF will hit and destroy any building or site containing ammunition and weapons.
As of the publication of this announcement, anyone having ammunition and/or weapons in his home is risking his life and must leave the place for the safety of his own life and that of his family.
You have been warned.
IDF Command
2. Phone calls
On December 27, around 20,000 phone calls were made throuthout the entire Gaza Strip
On December 29, around 10,000 phone calls were made to the residents of Rafah
Phone Message (December 27, 2008)

As of the publication of this announcement, the life of anyone in whose home ammunition and weapons are to be found is in danger, and he must leave the place for the sake of his own safety and that of his family.
IDF Command
3. Breaking into local radio transmissions
(Radio Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Radio and Radio PFLP)
a. Specific local announcements
Radio Announcement (December 29, 2008)
To the residents of Rafah: A military announcement -
The IDF will act against any organizations and elements carrying out terrorist activities against the residents of the State of Israel.
The IDF will hit and destroy any building or site containing ammunition, weapons or tunnels.

IDF Command
Radio Announcement (January 3, 2009)
Military announcement
To all residents of the area
For your own safety, you are required to leave your homes immediately and move to the city centers.
IDF Command
b. Daily news bulletins (since December 27)
News Bulletin - Breakin into regular radio transmissions (January 3, 2009)
Following are the main news items regarding the latest events in the Gaza Strip:
Israel is continuing its operations in the Gaza Strip according to plan.
Israel strongly reiterates that it is taking strong measures against Hamas operatives only, and does not wish to harm the civilian population.
IDF troops have so far killed scores of active Hamas terrorists.
Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip are continuing to use the local population as a human shield and to fire from places where civilians reside, while they themselves hide and put the population in danger.
As part of the Hamas attempts to conceal the truth, Hamas spokesman Ihab al-Ghusain announced from his hiding place that the Gaza television station El-Arabia has been closed down.
Official sources in the Arab world have voiced their criticism of senior Hamas leaders in Gaza for totally forsaking the residents of Gaza Strip and looking out only for themselves and their nearest.
Gaza residents are welcome to receive food and medical supplies, delivered via the Rafah, Karni and Kerem Shalom passages, at the UNRWA centers throughout the Gaza Strip.
Israel calls on the population, for its own safety, to move to city centers.
Listen for further instructions from the IDF Command, heed instructions from IDF troops, and avoid staying in areas occupied by Hamas terrorist elements.

Ibrahim Sabah Ali Awad Abu Daqqa, (mother of murdered Ibrahim) was sitting in the yard of her house, in the morning, waiting for his return. But he had not returned. She, sometimes, silently and sadly ponders over those who had lost their lives, while her tears flow down and cover her face. She said, “Since the Israelis started their Gaza onslaught, the situation had never changed, the sky had been rife with fighters, bombardment had never stopped, yet, it had never crossed my mind that my son would be the victim. During a short period of military inactivity, Ibrahim and his brother Mohammed went to a plantation near Absan Sports Club to get some herbs and weeds for our livestock.” She pointed at a wheelbarrow and said, “Ibrahim was using this new barrow whose handle was cut off by Israeli sharpnel.” She added, “Ibrahim was not carrying a rocket nor was he heading for the borders to be the target of a land-to-land missile. May almighty Allah save our souls!”
In a proud tone, she added, “Ibrahim was 16 years old, a first year secondary student. He had learnt 25 parts of the Noble Qur’an by heart. He was dreaming of completing his schooling. My dear son had ever been an excellent learner. There are appreciation certificates that bear testimony to this fact. Here is a certificate from Al Farouk Qur’an Memorization Institute, and these are his school’s appreciation certificates throughout the stages of his studentship. May Allah grant him His mercy and accept him as a martyr.”
On the other hand, his grandmother enumerated his fine traits: “He was quiet, empathetic, kind-hearted, and decent. He was on good terms with people older than he was and with his friends from universities. Thanks to Allah for granting him this honorable end. Allah knoweth how sincere he had been.”

Islam Gaber Arafat Abdeldayem, 16Jaber Mohammed Alian 16
Ibrahim of Gaza City, Gaza, died of wounds sustained Jan. 5 in an IDF attack in Gaza City's al-Zaytoun neighborhood.
Jaber
Islam The year 2008 started with more Israeli aggression than ever before.
The war on Gaza was repeating itself savagely every day at that cold winter.
However, these conditions didn’t prevent Islam, 16 years old, from taking part in the consolation occasion of his cousin Arafa, who martyred some days before.
In such circumstances, a consolation lasts for a number of days, to let all relatives and acquaintances to get the chance to take part.
Islam was there taking care of the consolers’ requests. No one thought for a moment that the Israeli missiles would target such house full of consolers and civilians.
But they were wrong….
The first day passed peacefully, although the turmoil of Israeli bombarding was surrounding Beit Hanoun from all directions.
But at the second day, a strike by a missile of an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft attacked the house of consolation. Tens of the family sons and consolers were injured or killed. It was a real dilemma, where all victims were lying on the ground, shot by the missile.
This happened on the 5th of January. At that day, Islam wasn’t martyred. However, he was badly injured; carried immediately to the hospital.
But after three days of pain and suffering in the intensive care department, Islam passed away.
Failing to hide her deep sadness, Islam’s mother tried to talk about her favorite son. She started by saying “I feel so sad and sorry that I didn’t have the chance to enjoy looking at Islam’s face to the last moment of his life. They killed him in a horrible way, without doing anything. He was so depressed that death separated between him and his cousin, but he joined him two days later; Glory to God and Sufficient unto us is God!”
Islam was a student in the second secondary class. He was in a good educational level. He had the intention to finish his secondary school and join the university.
His brother, Mizer, said “Islam was the most active kid among us. He was taking care about our home needs. He was beating all of us in working in our small agricultural piece of land. He was fixing everything, even cars. He was really talent and magnificent.”
His Dreams:
Islam was a very beloved boy. His absence is making all his friends very sad. But their belief that he went to a better life is comforting them. Islam spent his most beautiful times with this companion. They played football in every wide square in Beit Hanoun’s land.
But the Israeli aggression invaded the land, damaged the squares, and separated the companion forever.
