Two Killed, One Injured in Israeli bombardment of central Gaza Strip
Gaza - PNN - Two civilians were killed, one injured on Tuesday afternoon during Israeli shelling targeting central Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources reported. According to witnesses, Israeli shelling targeted a group of residents in the eastern part of al-Massadar village, which left Mohammad Abu-Jazar and Hamdan Abu-Moier dead and another person, currently unnamed, injured.
Medics confirmed that the three men were in their twenties and all were transported to a hospital in the nearby town Dier al-Balah.
The Israeli army announced that air force jet fighters fired a missile at a group of fighters, killing two of them. According to the Israeli military the men were approaching the border fence near central Gaza Strip, allegations which were denied by eyewitnesses.
The attack comes less than two weeks after attacks by the Israeli Air Force on the Egyptian-Gazan borders. Since Israel placed the Gaza Strip under siege in 2007, the tunnels at the Egyptian borders became a source of much needed supplies for the 1.5 million inhabitants of Gaza.

Fresh Israeli raid wounds 3 Palestinians
GAZA, (PIC)-- Three Palestinian citizens were wounded at a late hour on Tuesday night in an Israeli air raid on Gaza, the second in less than 24 hours, local and medical sources told the PIC reporter.
They said that Israeli F16s fired two missiles at tin houses in Shujaia suburb east of Gaza city completely destroying them and injuring the three.
The sources said that ambulances rushed the casualties to hospitals where their injuries were described as “slight”.
The Israeli army command said that the raid was in response to the firing of locally made rockets at Israeli positions on Monday. It claimed that the raid targeted a tunnel in the area.
The raid came only hours after an earlier one on central Gaza that killed two Palestinians and wounded one in a fresh escalation of hostilities against the Gaza Strip.

Israeli airstrikes hit eastern Gaza
Relatives of a killed Palestinian mourn at the al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza Strip on July 5.
Israeli forces have launched airstrikes in the eastern part of Gaza city, with no immediate reports of the exact number of casualties.
According to initial reports, the attacks occurred late on Tuesday night in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Earlier in the day, Israeli artillery shelling in east of the al-Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza killed two Palestinians and injured another.
In April, a series of Israeli airstrikes killed at least 19 Palestinians in the occupied territories.
On May 15, the Israeli military gunned down over two dozen people among those marking Israel's 1948 occupation of Palestine, known as the Nakba Day or "the day of the catastrophe."
The Israeli army frequently bombs the tunnel network in Gaza, claiming that Palestinian resistance fighters use the tunnels to store and smuggle in weapons. Palestinians, however, dismiss such allegations, insisting that they were forced to resort to the underground tunnels to bring in basic living supplies to the impoverished Gazans because the territory has been sealed off to the outside world by a punishing Israeli blockade for over three years.
Some 1.5 million people are being denied their basic rights, including the freedom of movement and their rights to appropriate living conditions, work, health and education.
In 1948, Israeli forces displaced some 700,000 Palestinians, forcing them to flee to different countries.

UN 'slams Israel' over Nakba Day bloodshed
JERUSALEM (AFP) -- A UN report into the bloodshed along the Israel-Lebanon border in May has slammed the Israeli army for using unnecessary force when firing on protesters, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
The report was released by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon earlier this week and passed on to the 15 members of the Security Council, with a copy also passed on to Israel's Haaretz newspaper.
The study focuses on the events of May 15 when thousands of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon marched on the Israeli border in a show of mass mourning over the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, known in Arabic as the Nakba, or "catastrophe."
As the protesters tried to scale the fence, Israeli troops opened fire, killing seven and injuring 111, the report said.
Another four people were killed and scores injured along the Syrian front line with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, but the report, which was based on the findings of an investigation by the UN peacekeeping force in south Lebanon, focuses solely on the Lebanese-Israeli confrontation.
The report found that Israeli troops "used direct live fire against unarmed demonstrators" and urged the army to avoid doing so in situations where there was no immediate threat to life.
"Other than firing initial warning shots, the Israel Defense Forces did not use conventional crowd control methods or any other method than lethal weapons against the demonstrators," it says.
In his concluding remarks, Ban urges the Israeli military to act only with the level of force appropriate to the threat facing its troops.
"I call on the Israel Defense Forces to refrain from responding with live fire in such situations, except where clearly required in immediate self-defense," he writes.
"Notwithstanding every country's inherent right of self defense, there is a need for the Israel Defense Forces always to apply appropriate operational measures, including crowd control measures, which are commensurate to the imminent threat toward their troops and civilians," it says.
The paper said Israel was furious with the UN's special coordinator for Lebanon, Michael Williams, who wrote the report, and had cut all ties with him.
The Israeli foreign ministry did not immediately respond to requests to confirm details in the report.
Although the lion's share of criticism was reserved for the Israel army, the report also noted it was the Palestinian demonstrators who started the confrontation and were the first to use violence.
It acknowledged that Lebanon's Hezbollah was involved in organizing the rallies, Haaretz said.

Israel air strike hits east of Gaza city
(1:55) Israel air strike hits east of Gaza city - Press TV News
Israeli warplanes carried out an air strike east of Gaza city early Wednesday injuring a Palestinian man and causing damage to properties.
Witnesses in the area said that two missiles were fired toward these structures near the Shejaya area of Gaza City.
One of the missiles landed without exploding. An Israeli military spokeswoman said forces targeted what he called a tunnel used by Palestinian men for importing goods into the besieged enclave.
Wednesday’s attack came hours after two Palestinians were killed and a third was injured by a drone attack on central Gaza strip in what the Israeli army described as a preemptive strike to stop a projectile attack.
The fresh deadly escalation is the first since May 15th when several Palestinians were killed and injured while marking Nakbah Day.
This escalation comes at a time when pro-Palestinian activists are continuing with their efforts to draw the attention of the international community to the plight of Palestinians of Gaza under Israel’s ongoing 5-year siege.
Meanwhile, a small French boat which is part of Freedom Flotilla 2 has managed to set sail toward Gaza in an attempt to break Israeli’s naval blockade on the costal strip, reviving an international campaign that appeared to have ground to a halt.
As Israel continues to hold its tight grip on the coastal strip, Palestinians here say that the Flotilla’s message of support has reached Gaza which is subject to frequent ground and aerial attacks.

IOF storm Issawiya area, violently attack its young men
OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- A number of Palestinian young men from Issawiya district in occupied Jerusalem were badly wounded last night when an Israeli military force stormed their area all of a sudden and started to open fire at them.
Eyewitnesses said one of the young men called Ahmed Al-Masri sustained a serious injury in his neck as he was near his workplace in the area.
Members of an Israeli undercover unit rounded up three young men during the clashes that erupted immediately after the troops invaded Issawiya.
The young men responded in self-defense and hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at the Israeli troops who kept firing rubber bullets, and tear gas and stun grenades at them, the eyewitnesses said.
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) raids different neighborhoods in Jerusalem almost daily at the pretext of ensuring that Palestinian young men comply with the house arrest imposed on them.
In a separate incident, the IOF on Wednesday stormed Marda village in Salfit district and ransacked the house of a Palestinian detainee in Israeli jails.
Eyewitnesses said Israeli troops violently raided the house of prisoner Rami Suleiman and smashed its furniture after they locked up all members of his family in one room for nearly two hours.
The mother of prisoner Suleiman suffered a nervous breakdown as a result of the violent raid and was taken to a hospital in Nablus city to receive medical care.
The IOF also kidnapped Hosam Suleiman, a student at Annajah university, from his home in Marda village.
Another family in the same village was handed a summons from the invading troops ordering their 19-year old son, Qutaiba Rasmi, to meet intelligence officers for interrogation.

Israeli warplanes pound east Gaza
Israeli warplanes have attacked the eastern Gaza Strip in yet another use of excessive force against the Palestinian residents of the besieged territory.
In the incident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday, Israeli F-16 jets flew over Gaza City and fired a missile at the area of Jabal al-Rayes, east of the city, Xinhua reported.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage to property.
The Israeli military frequently bombs the Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, disproportionate force is always used, in violation of international law, and civilians are often killed or injured.
Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, which is a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
After Israel's assault on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in international waters on May 31, 2010, in which nine civilians were killed, Tel Aviv slightly eased the land blockade of Gaza, allowing in more consumer goods.
However, the naval siege of the Gaza Strip remains in place, exports are banned, and imports of raw materials and construction materials are restricted.
