Israeli soldiers attack Palestinian journalist
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian photojournalist Moheeb Al-Barghouthi was beaten by Israeli soldiers on Friday while covering an anti-wall protest in Nabi Saleh near Ramallah.
Al-Barghouthi, who works for the official Palestinian Authority newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, suffered head injuries and sustained bruises across his body in the attack.
He said soldiers destroyed his camera and confiscated some of his equipment.
The journalist said the soldiers accused him of "misrepresenting" the image of Israeli forces. They left him bleeding and handcuffed on the ground in intense heat for several hours, he added.
Al-Barghouthi was treated at hospital in Ramallah for light injuries.
Israel's military responded in a statement that "the Palestinian in question was detained for violating a closed military area order. The man was questioned and released an hour later."
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the attack and expressed "grave concern" for the welfare of Palestinian media workers.

Israeli Army Attacks Dutch Music Orchestra with Tear Gas
(5:53) Fanfare vd Eerste Liefdesnacht in Jerusalem
Nablus - PNN - The Dutch street orchestra 'Fanfare van de Eerste Liefdesnacht' (the First Night of Love Brass Band) from Amsterdam was attacked with tear gas today by the Israeli army during their performance in the Palestinian village Kufr Qadum near Nablus, northern West Bank.
The bands tour of Palestine is designed to be interactive, working with children from a refugee camp in the east of Bethlehem and having them play along with the band and dancing in the streets together.
The musicians were confronted with tens of soldiers who shot tear gas cannisters from behind their military jeeps during the musical performance. They then found themselves surrounded with snipers. Several members of the band were injured and suffered from tear gas inhalation.
Kufr Qadum is a village near Nablus that has suffered in recent years from radical jewish settlers who have attacked the villagers, cut down olive trees and set fire to fields. The roads that lead to the village are often blocked by Israeli military checkpoints.
The Dutch music orchestra has travelled around the West Bank for a duration of two weeks to perform in towns, villages and refugee camps. The band consists of 25 musicians with different musical instruments. They were invited by the town council of Kufr Qadum to perform in the village.

'Israeli commandos enter south Lebanon'
Israeli forces
Israeli commandos have reportedly advanced into Tel Aviv-occupied territory in southern Lebanon, conducting sweeping operations there.
On Thursday, 20 of the crack forces changed positions from the Ruweisat Alam village to the Shebaa Farms, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Tel Aviv retains a state of hostility with Beirut by refusing to return farms, which it occupied alongside vast expanses of other Arab territories in 1967.
The forces carried out military operations over great swathes of land for an hour.
The military did not cross the United Nations-drawn Blue Line.
However, Israel's unmanned reconnaissance aircraft flew for more than two hours over the occupied area and the Lebanese territory.
The spy planes frequently violate Lebanon's airspace.
Tel Aviv has launched several wars on Lebanon, killing around 1,200 Lebanese -- mostly civilians -- in the most recent round of offensives in 2006.
In the deadliest of Israeli violations to follow the 2006 war, an Israeli patrol unit breached a border fence in August 2010. The move prompted an exchange of fire with the Lebanese military, in which three Lebanese soldiers, a Lebanese journalist and a senior Israeli officer were killed.
The Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah, which defended the country during Israeli wars, has vowed to respond to any new Israeli incursions.

Human rights workers face aggression in Gazan waters
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- An international monitoring boat was confronted by the Israeli navy on Wednesday in Gazan waters and targeted with high pressure water canons.
Volunteers from Civil Peace Service Gaza together with Palestinian fisherman and international press were on board the boat at the time.
Civil Peace Service Gaza works as part of a non-violent initiative to monitor human rights abuses in Gaza.
An Israeli naval boat also rammed another international boat, the Oliva, causing serious damage to the engine and forcing the boat to stop.
The crew had to be evacuated and all boats were forced to head back to shore, a statement from Civil Peace Service Gaza said.
"Israel has been regularly attacking Palestinian fishermen within the purported 3 nautical mile fishing limit," Joe Catron, an American human rights worker aboard the Oliva, said.
"The livelihood of many Gazans relies on fishing and Israel has been using live ammunition and water cannons to prevent fishermen from doing their work.
"We will continue to go out with the Palestinians and document human rights violations, despite the powerful threats we and Gazan fishermen face."
This is the fourth attack on the Oliva in less than two weeks, CBS Gaza said.
In early July, the Oliva vessel was confronted by the Israeli navy in a similar incident.
A marine blockade imposed by Israel restricts Gazan fisherman from accessing eighty five percent of Gaza's fishing waters as agreed upon under the Oslo agreements.
Following the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2006 the Israeli navy imposed a complete sea blockade on the Gaza Strip for several months.
After Hamas took control of the coastal enclave in 2007, Israel limited fishing access to 3 nautical miles from the coast.
During the Oslo accords negotiators had agreed upon 20 nautical miles of fishing access along Gaza's coastline.
Rights groups have condemned the blockade of Gaza as a form of collective punishment of the 1.6 million residents.

Gazans fear more Israeli offensive
(1:54) Gazans fear more Israeli offensive - Press TV News
Residents in the besieged Gaza Strip fear that Israel might escalate attacks on the impoverished enclave when Palestinians request statehood at the United Nations in September.
“I think the Israelis will not stay calm against what is going to happen in September. They are going to take more actions. They might turn it into violent attacks on Gaza. They might commit a new genocide against the Palestinians in September or afterward,” said a Gaza resident.
In the latest attack carried out on Wednesday, Israeli jet aircraft launched strikes on open areas east and south of Gaza, causing damage to nearby houses in the targeted zone, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Israeli army officials claimed that the airstrikes were in response to “rockets fired from Gaza.”
On Sunday, an Israeli navy vessel targeted the members of the Civil Peace Service aboard the Oliva boat which monitors human rights conditions of fishermen in Gaza.
Alix Robinson of the Civil Peace Service told Press TV that Israeli authorities “do not like what we do because we are documenting their crimes at sea.”
Palestinians will attempt to obtain recognition of a sovereign state when the UN General Assembly meets in September. Washington and Tel Aviv remain opposed to the initiative.
Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon has claimed that such a decision could lead to “disappointment and maybe violence” in the occupied territories and Tel Aviv might “dissolve agreements with the Palestinians.”
The Tel Aviv regime launched an all-out military offensive on the Gaza Strip at the turn of 2009. The ensuing three-week war killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, most of them civilians, including many women and children.
Israel denies some 1.5 million people in Gaza their basic rights, including the freedom of movement and their rights to appropriate living conditions, work, health and education.

3 bombs dismantled in Nablus
NABLUS (Ma’an) -- Explosive experts from the Palestinian Authority police department were able to dismantle three unexploded bombs Wednesday in the village of Taluza near Nablus.
The police received a phone call from a villager who reported the discovery of an unexploded bomb on village land.
They then searched the area and found three unexploded bombs which were dismantled and removed to protect the public.
Nablus police urged people to stay away from any ambiguous objects and to call the police.
It is believed the bomb was of Israeli origin and likely a remnant from a previous incursion.

IOF armored vehicles roll into central Gaza
GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in armored vehicles raided the central Gaza Strip near Breij refugee camp on Sunday morning and bulldozed cultivated land lots, local sources said.
They added that the IOF troops advanced 300 hundred meters east of Breij and leveled agricultural land amidst heavy shooting, but no casualties were reported.
The IOF troops routinely raid Gaza border areas in a bid to impose a buffer zone, a thing rejected by the Palestinians.

Violent confrontations after IOF storms Doheisha refugee camp
BETHLEHEM, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed the Doheisha refugee camp in Bethlehem in six armored vehicles before dawn Sunday and fired sonic bombs when they reached its outskirts.
Local sources said that the sound of the explosions woke up the inhabitants and some of the young men ventured into the streets to confront the invading troops.
They said that the soldiers responded to the stone throwing youths by firing rubber bullets and teargas canisters in which they described as “violent” confrontations.
The sources noted that some of those canisters fell in the yards of many houses causing fainting among a number of citizens, while a youth sustained burns in his shoulder when one of those canisters directly hit him.

Israeli Military Targeted ISM Activists On Board Gaza Fishing Boat
Two American activists and one Swedish Activist boarded a fishing boat in Gaza, Olivia, on Saturday July 23, 2011. The ISM activists were on board to counteract the Israeli Military from preventing the Palestinian fishermen from fishing.
At seven in the morning, three adult Palestinians and two young boys boarded the fishing boat with three ISM activists, according to a report issued by the Palestinian Solidarity Organization on July 24, 2011.
The ISM activists spotted the Israeli Military, at around two and half miles from the Gaza shore, and announced several times on a megaphone that there were, “Unarmed international observers on board, two United States citizens and one Swedish citizen.”
The Israeli Navy fired live rounds of ammunition aimed at the boat, at the ISM activists, as well as in the water surrounding the boat for thirty minutes.
The ISM activists repeated on the megaphone before reaching the three mile mark that there were unarmed civilians that only wanted to fish for Ramadan.
Palestinian fishermen in Gaza are only allowed to fish within three miles from the Gaza shore. The captain told the ISM activists that this area is over fished and it would be better to “return home” rather than fish at the three-mile mark.
The captain went three miles and seven hundred meters away from the Gaza Shore asking the Israeli Navy on a megaphone to allow them to fish for one hour. The Israeli Navy told the captain that he is only allowed to fish within the three-mile mark.
The Israeli gunboat left and then another warship equipped with a water canon took its place. The water canon aimed at the fishing boat for twenty to thirty minutes with such intensity that the captain decided to stop fishing and return to the port.
