Arab move to censure Israel stymied at IAEA meeting
VIENNA A 151-nation meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency narrowly voted against an Arab push to censure Israel for not opening up its nuclear activities to inspection.
Of nations present, 51 voted against a resolution called "Israeli Nuclear Capabilities." Fifty-one voted for, and 23 abstained. The rest were absent.
The vote was closely watched after last year's meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency passed the same resolution by a small margin.
The US and other allies of Israel had argued passage would threaten ongoing Mideast peace talks and the chances of a planned 2012 conference on a Mideast nuclear-free zone. Islamic nations and their supporters said the resolution was meant to move chances of creating such a zone forward.

Israeli IAEA envoy: Adopting this resolution will be a fatal blow to any hope for future cooperative efforts towards better regional security in the Middle East.
Israel warned the United Nations nuclear watchdog on Friday that an Arab-led push to target it with a resolution could deal a "fatal blow" to future cooperation on boosting Middle East security.
An Israeli delegate at the annual assembly of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) made the statement during a debate on the resolution, which calls on Israel to join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
"Adopting this resolution will be a fatal blow to any hope for future cooperative efforts towards better regional security in the Middle East," Israel's IAEA envoy Ehud Azoulay said.
Israel has been making an eleventh-hour effort to block the IAEA resolution calling on the country to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and open the Dimona nuclear complex to inspection.
The United States has urged Arab states to withdraw the non-binding resolution, saying it could derail broader efforts to ban such arms in the Middle East and also send a negative signal to the relaunched Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Syria criticizes UN nuclear agency for not censuring Israel
State-owned newspaper says decision not to censure Israel over refusal to allow nuclear inspections was regretful, shows that "talking about Israel's nuclear affairs ... is a red line."
DAMASCUS, Syria A state-owned Syrian newspaper criticized a meeting of the UN nuclear agency for failing to censure Israel over its refusal to allow inspections of its nuclear program.
A 151-nation meeting in Vienna narrowly defeated the push by Arab nations, including Syria. The US and other Israeli allies had argued the resolution would have threatened Mideast peace talks and the chances of staging a high-level Mideast nuclear meeting.
The Tishrin government newspaper said Saturday that the outcome was regretful and showed that "talking about Israel's nuclear affairs ... is a red line."
Syria itself is under investigation by the International Atomic Energy Agency on the suspicion it has a secret nuclear program. Syria denies that.

'Israel nukes will spark ME arms race'
Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa speaks during a press conference at United Nations headquarters Friday, Sept. 24, 2010.
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa has warned that the Middle East will head toward an arms race should Israel maintain its nuclear weaponry.
Speaking at a press conference in New York on Friday, Moussa stated that "It is inconceivable that only one country in the Middle East has nuclear weapons. Why should Israel be the only one?"
"There should be no nuclear power in the Middle East. We need to ensure that the Middle East is free from all nuclear weapons," he added.
His remarks came after the International Atomic Energy Agency once again voted against a resolution that called on Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Under the nuclear ambiguity policy, Tel Aviv neither confirms nor denies it possesses nuclear weapons.
Former US President Jimmy Carter has said Israel has between 200 and 300 nuclear warheads.
Arab states say there can not be genuine peace in the Middle East until Israel abandons its nuclear weapons.

Vanunu: Israel still vengeful to me
Israeli nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu (C)
An Israeli nuclear whistleblower says Tel Aviv is still taking revenge on him after jailing him extendedly for exposing Israel's controversial nuclear program.
In 1986, the nuclear technician, Mordachai Vanunu was sentenced to 18 years in prison for revealing details about Israel's nuclear program and the military activities at the Dimona nuclear facility, in central Israel, where he was a worker. The compromised material provided convincing evidence that Israel possessed a nuclear arsenal.
Having served his entire prison term, he was released in 2004 while still bound by a number of restrictions, including an obligation to remain in Israel. He has also been arrested several times for allegedly violating the terms of his release.
On Monday, the 55 years old, appealed to the Israeli Supreme Court against the ban, saying, "This is just childish revenge by Israel, too much offended by such scandal," the Associated Press reported him as saying.
"The Cold War is over, it will never come back Freedom now, that's what I want, fly to freedom now," he added.
Earlier in the month, US-based International League for Human Rights said Vanunu had been awarded with the 2010 Carl von Ossietzky medal. German journalist Ossietzky won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1935 for speaking out against the Nazi Party.
Vanunu dropped an earlier nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize because Israeli President Shimon Peres had received the award in 1994.

Iran blames US for giving Israel nukes
Iran's Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi
Iran's Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi has blamed the US for providing Israel with nuclear weapons, saying that Americans owe the world public opinion a response on the matter.
"US officials should provide the global public opinion with an explanation about arming the Zionist regime," said Vahidi upon his arrival in Tehran on Tuesday following a two-day visit to Azerbaijan.
"Issues with the Israeli regime will not be resolved through the purchase of weapons since the regime has problems with its core nature which are rooted in its illegitimacy," he added.
General Vahidi went on to say that this issue, along with internal differences over the future of Tel Aviv, have led Israel to adopt mostly propaganda and publicity measures to cover-up its problems and weaknesses.
He said Israel is purchasing new US jet fighters to "cover-up" its failures in wars against Gaza and Lebanon.
The Iranian defense minister also dismissed propaganda campaigns that Iran's domestic production of defensive weapons threatens its neighbors.
"We have always announced that we are ready to offer our products in defense industry to all neighboring Muslim countries and regard ourselves as protector of security in the whole region," he said.
General Vahidi reiterated that efforts by the arrogant establishment are within the framework of Isamophobia, Iranophobia and Shiaphobia, adding, "This is while Islam and Shia have always interacted from a position of friendship and kindness."
The Iranian minister arrived in the Azeri capital of Baku on Monday at the head of a delegation.
While in Baku, General Vahidi held talks with his Azeri counterpart Safar Abiyev, President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov and Defence Industry Minister Yavar Jamalov and visited units producing military hardware.

Ihsanoglu: Israeli nuclear program a major threat to the region
CAIRO, (PIC)-- Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), said Israel's nuclear arsenal is a threat to non-nuclear states and the international community amid rising tensions in the area.
Ihsanoglu called on the international community not to assist Israel in its nuclear programs, adding that an investigation should be made into its atomic capabilities.
This came during an international forum to limit nuclear proliferation events held by the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs on Tuesday in part with several ambassadors, diplomats, and experts.
The OIC official added that Israel must announce its position on its nuclear arsenal and subject all of its facilities to international inspection, stressing his opposition to double standards concerning Israel's nuclear arsenal.
Referring to Iran's nuclear program, Ihsanoglu stressed that all states have the right to peaceful nuclear energy, and there should be no discrimination between countries in that regard. He said a mechanism of fairness and equality to deal with all states on a uniform rule should be established to avoid more conflict in the region.

Israel airs footage of nuclear reactor
TEL AVIV (Ma'an) -- Rare footage of an Israeli nuclear reactor in the Galilee was aired by Israeli TV on Saturday evening, marking the first time Israel's nuclear facilities have been openly broadcast to the public.
Channel 2's Roni Daniel said there were many details about the reactor's performance which he was not allowed to report on, and said the reactor was used for both civilian and military purposes.
"This reactor's role is to monitor nuclear experiments and activities taking place underground in the world," said a female expert working at the reactor. Staff, she said, would be alerted to preparations for nuclear experiments in North Korea, for example.
The nuclear reactor's director told the reporter of declining number of Israel's studying nuclear engineering following the closure of the Institute of Technology's (Technion) in Haifa's closure of the nuclear engineering department.
In August, former Israeli nuclear engineer and whistle blower Mordechai Vanunu completed a three-month sentence for breaking the terms of his release.
In the 1980s, Vanunu revealed details to the British press on Israel's nuclear weapon program, and was later kidnapped in Italy by a Mossad agent and tried in Israel.

Israel's nuclear heads are trained at Muslims, period
By Khalid Amayreh
Let us internalize some of the axiomatic strategic facts pertaining to the state-of-affair facing Arabs and Muslims in this region and beyond:
The first fact is that the hundreds of nuclear heads and bombs which Israel possesses or is widely assumed to possess are not trained toward Zimbabwe or Gabon or Haiti, but at Cairo, Beirut, Damascus, Tehran or perhaps Makkah and Medina.
The second fact is that the acquisition by Israel of a nuclear capability is aimed at subjugating, bullying and keeping the Arab world in a state of perpetual strategic inferiority vis-à-vis the Hebrew state. A nuclear Israel, undeterred by any reciprocal Arab deterrence, will allow Israel to commit the unthinkable, e.g. deport the remaining Palestinians from their ancestral homeland. It could also allow Israel to make ultimatums to countries such as Egypt, e.g. threatening to destroy strategic Egyptian targets such as the High Dam if the Arab country of 80 millions doesn't behave the Israeli way.
We recently saw how the docile Egyptian leadership was forced to play the harlot vis-à-vis a visibly haughty Israel during the recent genocidal Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip. Had Egypt had a strategic deterrent, it would have displayed a semblance of national dignity and said "No" to Israeli threats, implicit or explicit.
The third fact is that the American-controlled regime of nuclear nonproliferation is a farrago of nonsense. It is rather a pipe dream designed to cajole and silence nations that are willing to sell out their national dignity and keep their peoples under perpetual strategic risk in return for some financial and military aid from Washington. Needless to say, such conditional aid has no strategic value whatsoever and is worth nothing.
An example of this Arab fiasco (and stupidity) in this regard is the recent huge arms deal between Saudi Arabia and the US. Soon, sixty billion Dollars of Muslims money will be converted to rust, and will contribute a zero percent to enhancing the Muslims' overall security vis-à-vis Israel.
This is because most dictatorial Arab dynasties are more answerable to their American protectors than to their own peoples. Hence, these despots don't just buy weapons from the US, they have to buy weapon or else lose the status of America's "valuable ally" which really spells "valuable puppet" than ally!!!
The fourth fact is that the US and other Western powers knowingly and deliberately enabled Israel to possess nuclear weapons. Hence, the claim that these powers would shield these regimes and their peoples from a possible Zionist aggression is even more of a pipe dream, especially given the fact that the US and other western governments are themselves subservient to Israel and Zionist power. In the final analyses, the American political whores in Washington can not and will not disobey the Israeli or Jewish pimps' orders. They know they would commit political suicide at home if they did.
Fortunately, some Muslim countries in the region have understood the timeless maxim that if you don't protect yourself, none will protect you. The same countries have also understood that unless you create a sort of mutual assured destruction vis-à-vis your enemy, you will be savaged, humiliated and bullied.
Unfortunately, larger and richer Arab countries have failed to understand what Pakistan and India understood. Instead, these mostly authoritarian regimes have opted to remain in a state of whore-pimp subservience vis-à-vis Washington, which we all know is ruled by the Jewish lobby. Didn't Ariel Sharon say "We rule America, and the stupid Americans know it?"
There is no doubt that Arab states from Mauritania to Bahrain will remain in a state of strategic inferiority vis-à-vis Israel as long as they don't possess a real nuclear deterrent that would make Israel give up some of its insolence, arrogance of power and hubris.
In short, Israel wouldn't dare drop one or two nuclear bombs on Cairo, or even threaten to do so, if it knew that one or two nuclear bombs would be dropped on Tel Aviv or Haifa soon after any possible nuclear aggression against any Arab or Muslim capital. Isn't this the real, deep-seated reason behind the frantic Israeli campaign against the alleged nuclearization of Iran?
It is always undesirable to indulge in macabre calculations, especially with regard to the nefarious nuclear weapons.
However, Israel's Nazi-like behavior must have convinced us to always expect the unthinkable from Israel.
A few years ago, Israel dropped between 2-3 million cluster bomblets on Lebanon, enough to kill or maim 2-3 million children. Then the whore-like leaders of the so-called "Free world" reacted to this barbaric monstrosity rather cynically, saying that "Israel had the right to defend itself" as if Lebanon, a country that would have contented with a banana-republic status had it not been for recurrent Israeli aggressions, posed a real threat to nuclear-armed Israel, which also held America and other Western countries by the throat.
Similarly, the Israeli air-force rained white Phosphorus on Gaza nearly two years ago, affronting us with scenes that could have been borrowed from Dresden and other German cities reduced to smithereens by the air forces of the allies in the closing months of WWII.
It is really with heavy heart that I am approaching this subject.
This is why, my advice to the premier Arab states in this region is: Eat sand, eat grass, eat shit!! Let the bread queues be ten-miles long. But get the bomb! Don't be the laughingstock of the world.
Don't let a shitty state like Israel destroy the Islamic civilization.

Turkish document cites Israel as serious threat
Turkey's national security council removes Iran, Syria from list of threats to state, adds Israel, local media reported. Document says Israeli actions may prompt Middle East arms race.
The Turkish national security council recently added Israel as a "main threat" to a document dubbed the "red book" which lists threats to Turkey, local media reported.
The council decided to remove Syria, Bulgaria, Georgia and Armenia from the list of threats. Greece, however is still considered a threat, albeit an external one, whereas Iran was also removed from the list.
This is the first time Turkey has defined Israeli activity in the Middle East as a threat.
The document, which is valid for the next five years, noted that Israeli actions may cause countries in the region to start an arms race. It was further stated that the Middle East must be free of nuclear weapons.
Apart from Israel, Turkey added other threats such as online terror and global warming.
Relations between Jerusalem and Ankara deteriorated significantly since the raid on Gaza-bound flotilla last May which killed nine people. Turkey demanded Israel apologize, a demand Israel has not complied with.
Last week Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would not participate in an Athens climate conference if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attends. He also noted that Israel is close to losing Turkey "as a good friend in the Middle East."

Bush: Olmert asked me to bomb Syrian reactor
Dramatic revelations: Olmert asked Bush to bomb Syrian nuclear reactor, former president reveals in book; ex-PM did 'what he believed was necessary to protect Israel,' Bush writes, referring to reported Israeli strike on plant.
Former President George W. Bush says he considered ordering a US military strike against a suspected Syrian nuclear facility at Israel's request in 2007, but ultimately opted against it.
According to foreign reports, Israel was behind a bombing that eventually destroyed the facility, which Syria denied was aimed at developing a nuclear weapons capability.
In his memoir, "Decision Points," to hit bookstores on Tuesday, Bush says shortly after he received an intelligence report about a "suspicious, well-hidden facility in the eastern desert of Syria," he spoke by phone with then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
Washington Post report on reactor
"George, I'm asking you to bomb the compound," Olmert told Bush, according to the book, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters.
Bush says he discussed options with his national security team. A bombing mission was considered "but bombing a sovereign country with no warning or announced justification would create severe blowback," he writes.
A covert raid was discussed but it was considered too risky to slip a team in and out of Syria undetected.
Bush received an intelligence assessment from then-CIA Director Mike Hayden, who reported that analysts had high confidence the plant housed a nuclear reactor, but low confidence of a Syrian nuclear weapons program.
Bush says he told Olmert, "I cannot justify an attack on a sovereign nation unless my intelligence agencies stand up and say it's a weapons program."
'Your strategy very disturbing'
Olmert was disappointed at Bush's decision to recommend a strategy of using diplomacy backed up by the threat of force to deal with Syria over the facility.
"Your strategy is very disturbing to me," Olmert told Bush, according to the book.
Bush denies charges that arose at the time that he had given a "green light" for Israel to attack the installation.
"Prime Minister Olmert hadn't asked for a green light, and I hadn't given one. He had done what he believed was necessary to protect Israel," Bush writes.
Bush writes that Olmert's "execution of the strike" against the Syrian compound made up for the confidence he had lost in the Israelis during their 2006 war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, which Bush feels was bungled.

U.S.: Syria risks IAEA action if access to suspected nuclear site is denied
It has been over 2 years since UN nuclear watchdog was allowed to visit Dair Alzour site where secret nuclear activity may have taken place before it was bombed in 2007.
The United States warned Syria on Friday it may face action by governors of the United Nations nuclear watchdog if Damascus fails to give its inspectors access to the remains of a suspected nuclear site in the desert.
It has been over two years since the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was allowed to visit the Dair Alzour site in Syria where secret nuclear activity may have taken place before it was bombed to rubble, reportedly by Israel, in 2007.
U.S. intelligence reports have said it was a nascent North Korean-designed reactor geared to produce bomb fuel. Syria, an ally of Iran which is under IAEA scrutiny over its uranium enrichment drive, denies hiding nuclear work from inspectors.
Glyn Davies, Washington's IAEA envoy, said in a speech posted on the U.S. mission's website on Friday it was "urgent and essential" that Syria heed UN inspectors' requests for extended access to sites, personnel and material.
"Absent clear action by Syria to cooperate fully with the IAEA, we are rapidly approaching a situation where the (IAEA) board (of governors) and secretariat must consider all available measures and authorities...," he said.
Davies said earlier this year that a number of countries were beginning to ask whether it was time to invoke the IAEA's "special inspection" tool to give its inspectors the authority to look anywhere necessary in Syria at short notice.
The Vienna-based, UN-affiliated body last resorted to such a prerogative in 1993 in North Korea, which still withheld access and later developed nuclear bomb capacity in secret.
Syria is now seen as unlikely to yield to a special inspection. Diplomats and analysts believe the IAEA will refrain from escalating the dispute at a time of rising tension with Iran, which the West suspects of seeking nuclear weapons.
If Syria were to reject a request for a special inspection, the 35-nation IAEA board could vote to refer the issue to the UN Security Council, as it did with Iran's dossier four years ago. The board next convenes in early December.
The former global director of IAEA inspections, Olli Heinonen, said that in Syria's case the "circumstances cry out" for deploying a special mission because of its reluctance to give the IAEA access to relevant persons, equipment and sites.
"Special inspections should not be treated lightly but when they make it possible to clarify the picture...the world community must not shy away from them," Heinonen, who left the IAEA in August, wrote in an article on Friday for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
Earlier on Friday an excerpt from former U.S. President George W. Bush wrote in his newly memoirs that he considered ordering a U.S. military strike against a suspected Syrian nuclear facility at Israel's request in 2007, but ultimately opted against it.
Israel eventually destroyed the facility, which Syria denied was aimed at developing nuclear weapons.
